Romantic Blue, The
This is a rare 1991 Adventure game (DOS)

I found an ISO of this game through a website, including scanned manuals and boxart. I mounted the ISO in DOSbox 0.74 and tried running the install. Sometimes the install-screen came up, other times it didn't, but when the install finished, the game was not installed.. There were only a couple of empty folders at its given destination. Now I'm no DOSbox-wiz so I'm sure I'm just missing something. If anyone would like to have a go with the game please PM me.

Have that game, and I don't think it can run in dosbox.
Also listed as 'broken' on Vogons. http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?...=4169&letter=T However, it runs fine on my ol'P1 MsDos 6.22 compy. Also runs fine in VPC/MsDos 6.22 http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/7038/romantic.th.png |
Ah, you know, I didn't think to check dosbox.com for this one, guess I just thought it was to rare to be listed there. Thanks for letting me know! The game kind of looks like a Last Half of Darkness 3 1/2 if you ask me, seems to have been developed on the LHOD3 engine.

edit: Bleh! I didn't look at the date of the original post. I found an iso on 4Shared and attempted to get it in working order. It seems the img file is corrupted in the worst way. I think it's the controlling executable that is bad, which is disappointing because the game looks as though it could be quite good. Now I am on a quest for a long-lost, rare title. |
What a f*cking d*mned bitch to get it to install/run in dosbox !!!
For those who want to try: To install the game in dosbox you'll need to grab command.com from MsDos 6 and put it in your dosbox virtual C: root. Then the installer works. Go figure *sigh*. And then the sh*t hits the fan when you will attempt to run that b*tch in dosbox. That's how far I am now: Opening movie works fine: http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4...0802201.th.png I can look around and do some useless things in the crypt: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4...0802201.th.png http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/498...0802201.th.png Can take the stairs and leave the crypt towards the town: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/4...0802201.th.png And here things ALWAYS go wrong: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4982/...0802201.th.png Game crash, whatever I try or do don't do : crash. Ah well, it doesn't likes dosbox's mem management, on the other hand it runs flawless on a real MsDos 6.22 compy and in VPC-MsDos 6.22. Can't have it all. BTW, got that far in dosbox with memsize=1 and SB type 1. If it's OK for the staff I could upload a 'ready to run in custom dosbox' folder on a hosting service, maybe someone would get some idea how to run this b*tch in dosbox, some exotic mem setting mayhaps...? Folder size (dosbox + CD image included + game installed) is approx a 45 MB. Fact is the game isn't bad at all, as the ISO is only 20+ MB, and the game runs on real hardware it raises the question if the ISO should be in the ISO cellar or on the main site. Meaning, on AB do you only host games that run in dosbox or do you also want to put games up that only run in real MsDos for download? Before someone asks, tried also in every dosbox version from the first ones, same result, or even worse. Ohne Mitleid -> you have a PM. [Edit] Now that I think about it, need to try run that b*tchy game in some newer and older CVS'es, ya never know. Will do when I have some free time .......... |

That was the solution. Run the game in dosbox CVS. The one I used and ran the b*tch successfully is CVS build 'dosbox_17.06.2007.exe' , mayhaps it runs in other CVS builds also, you can try it for yourselves, YA LAZY PEEPS that you are. http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/4...0802201.th.png Finally got past the #@#@#@#@#@#@#@ crash point in dosbox. :3: Moi is happy now, you're on your own from here on. KTHXBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiii. :D |
YES !!!! indeed! Congrats on finding that out dosraider! I'm gonna try it at once!

Too much of this just isn't working for me. I don't know where to get that particular CVS. I tried Command.com from 6.00 and 6.22 with mixed results. Reinstall is reported most frequently when the game crashes, but I am also getting errors about incorrect command.com versions and not enough conventional memory. I have performed a ver set ## for DOSBox. I don't know if sound makes any difference, but I get sound only with the Pro Audio Spectrum setting (I think it's choice E).
Which install type? Play from CD, medium or full install? Bleh... I don't think I am being lazy, I would just like this working so it would open the opportunity to have it on site to be reviewed and then available to everyone. I would be more than willing to take a crack at the review. Help? Oh, and if someone did get it working, would they be so kind as to share the information on the DOSBox archive site so it would no longer be reported as 'broken'? |
