I just finished playing MDK a couple of days ago (I loved it by the way) and I guess I was as well suprised as the other members how can such a great 3D game be an abandonware, as well as Revolt.... But that is not the point of this discussion.

Between the others there are some great 3D games such as these on the site, and there are fans around the globe who preffer to play 3D abandonware games istead of the 2D.

You can make a section and put every 3D game inside.

I think that's a good thing.
Especially cause you can mentally prepare for a big download. ^_^
Imagine: I got DSL two weeks ago.

how many 3D games do we even have on the site?

Abi79 25-10-2006 01:46 PM

This is not needed. It would, in a way, split games in two... types: with good graphics and bad graphics. As such, 2-D games would start to be ignored on Abandonia by users, even if they are good also.

The size of the game is written on it's page.

The problems I see with this are multitudinal. Not that it's a bad idea, just consider:

o Doing so would require a re-working of the inner workings of Abandonia, which is already in the process. So really it'd be a re-working of the re-working.

o So we make a 3d games section. But wait, there are 3d Adventure games, 3d action games, 3d puzzle games etc. So we'd need to esentally double the available categories, making a 3d version of each. Either that or you're asking for a new "abandonia 3d" site all together, and think of all the hassle THAT would entail.

o Assuming this is implimented on some level, what counts as 3d? Do pre-rendered isometric views like Diabilo or StarCraft count, or quasi-3d like Klax?

What I would like is if the next version of Abandonia had multiple category tags for games. That way an action/strategy could be in BOTH categories, etc. So if it's a 3d action game you could just push the 3d tab and get 3d, and push the action tab and get all action games. but we'd have to be careful, this could get rediculus. If 3d gets a tag, shoulden't 2d, VGA, EGA and CGA each get their own tags? It's a slippery slope my friend.

VGA, CGA......I don`t know what that is. <_<
I`m only aware of 2d and 3d games. By "3d" I meant everything with three dimensions.

If you guys are lazy than don`t do it :D. Just kidding.

Abi maybe has a point - that would maybe decrease the interest for the 2d games. But maybe would increase the interest for abandonware, and abandonia would be the first site with such a section.

ta-da :)

They're different graphics modes and basically determine how many different colours you can get in a game:

Example of a game using CGA graphics.
Example of a game using EGA graphics.
Example of a game using VGA graphics.

[/b][/quote]That was an error on my part. Sorry for this. I meant that nowadays if someone hears that a game is not 3-D, usually that someone will ignore that game. Of course, it all depends on age, but one must agree that the majority of people are looking for games with good graphics, and don't care if games with 2-D graphics actually look good or play good (they almost never hear of them in this days, and since they are accustomed to games looking like this, not like this...).
