Hi!
I am suffering from the problem of sound disability in my computer. Actually it began a few days back. My sound started disappearing from a smoothly running computer. Earlier the problem could be resolved by easily restarting the computer. I thought that it could be due to some virus. I reinstalled my Windows XP by formatting C drive and sound appeared and ran smoothly for sometime. But the problem is back! And this time it doesn't comes back even after restarting. can this be due to some fault in motherboard? I mean everything else works fine but sound suffers. dunno why!!! any suggestions? thanx in advance. vipin |
I once had a problem using a PCI-soundcard that was using the same interrupt (IRQ) like the on-board sound that I actually disabled. But still there were issues with it.
It went like this: Every second reboot sound worked. Every uneven number of reboots the IRQ was directed to the disabled on-board sound and my pc was silent. |
Is it an onboard sound card? Have you checked for conflicts on your system? See above post.

I used to get something like this - all sound died, winamp was playing but there was no sound, system sounds weren't playing, etc. I found that it was some strange alien object lurking in the device manager. I deleted it and all returned to normal. Look there for things that don't belong.

but I have already reinstalled XP by formatting C drive and I dont think any conflicts still exist there. but k, i will try.

Did you try different sound drivers? Have a look around http://www.driverguide.com, that place was invaluable help to me more times then I care to remember.
