Quintopotere 11-03-2006 11:34 AM

Ok friends, it's time for a new competition :Brain:

This month you have to make a pic about "Fear"

You have to put "atmosphere" in it and, as always, you could use the technich you prefer, drawing pixel by pixel, blending images, drawing by hand and so on...

Make your best to scare the judges

You must post your entry until the end of March... or something dreadful will happen to you... :butcher: :hairpull: Mwahahahaha...

Participants
- swiss
- Sean
- Modeus
- moogle
- 2more
- Maikel
- Bobbin Threadbare
- Scarface
- Busses
- TheGiantMidgit

Judges
- Quintopotere

Scarface 11-03-2006 03:30 PM

Hey, don't forget about me
I want it as well

Quintopotere 11-03-2006 04:01 PM

Ok! You're in!

And I expect a great work from you... I liked the pic of the passed month :ok:

swiss 11-03-2006 08:09 PM

Darkness all around. No sound. Noone near.

step

shhh ... whispering from far away ....

step

I hear a voice whisper.

step

They are calling to me.

step

light - flashing lights ....

screams of agony. where are they? I am fully surrounded by steps and whispers. Fear takes over! blinds me!

then all over a sudden - it's over ... I still hear them. they will come back ....

shhhhhhh

step

Quintopotere 12-03-2006 06:25 PM

That's a good pic, as always, swiss :ok:

And nice "story"!

Sean 12-03-2006 06:36 PM

Interesting picture but not 'fearful' more abstract. We'll see if I can beat it though. Nice to see more of your skillful work posted up swiss.

Love ya :P

moogle 12-03-2006 06:57 PM

I agree with Sean, awesome pic, I LOVE IT, but...it just doesn't say "fear" almost though...maybe if the skull in her eye was a bit more clear...

Also: how'd you do that border? It works really well...

And just a question but...are we allowed to post gory-ish, stuff? I'l link it so its not "out there" but, are we allowed to have some? It is fear after all...

Modeus 12-03-2006 10:41 PM

Nice pic Swiss, and i agree with Moogle and Sean, could've been a little more scary.
Here's my humble attempt:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...ogor/fear3.jpg

"Be good now, it is time for your medicine. It will relieve all the pain and solve all your problems in 5 minutes."

Personally i find lethal injection to be much more scary than, say, getting shot, stabbed, hit by a car, drowning, or falling of a skyscraper. Which brings me to one question, which is off topic ( ): just why do you think nowadays they find injecting poison more humane than, for example, shooting a person ? ( i am talking about execution methods)

It's just something i thought of before drawing this picture.

moogle 13-03-2006 01:47 AM

I really like it, feels pretty scarry, although...after looking at it for a bit, something just seems to be "off" or missing...can't place it but...

Quintopotere 13-03-2006 07:15 AM

@ Modeus: another good pic... I fear so much needles, so I find very scary your pic...

Well, I think you can put a bit of gore in your pic... but be sure to not exaggerate, ok? All in all i think that gore is not the best "artistic" way to represent the fear!

It's not so simple to scare with a pic, isn't it?

Bobbin Threadbare 13-03-2006 10:40 AM

Well, I better get started. Mine certainly won't hAVE gore. Or will it?

Scarface 13-03-2006 08:39 PM

As far as I can see, this month's competition will be tough :boxing:
Good job swiss and Modeus

I know, I'm not going for the all out approach, but I want to use a bit, nothing thats that bad, but you know....you'l see...

Blood-Pigggy 13-03-2006 10:59 PM

I can join in too.
Although I'm not certain I'm up to it, I'll post again if I'm absolutly certain I got all the stuff I need (little dry on the art tools right now).

Great pics from both Swiss and Modeus, but I must say, I enjoy Modeus' more, nothing better than a creepy hand-drawn piece of art.

Bobbin Threadbare 14-03-2006 09:38 AM

What size would you recomend I use?

jesters.ice 14-03-2006 10:05 AM

Fear may heighten your expectation.

I hope this describtion of the picture tells enough to understand. If not then let me know.
And yes, I could have done better - but I thought I leave it as it is now before I put in too many things.

Bobbin Threadbare 14-03-2006 10:10 AM

Oh, now I get it. I stared at it for a while. THen I figured it oput.

Well, you know, art can't be limited in narrow boundaries...
Maybe you should just not exceed over the monitor resolution ;)

About the 2more's pic, it's good, but could be clearer...

So around 1280x1024? :P Nah, I think I'll stick with a quarter of that.

moogle 16-03-2006 10:48 PM

...thats the size of mine...
EDIT: linkitude

Quintopotere 17-03-2006 08:13 AM

Uh... moogle, no one could say that your pic isn't great... at least for its dimensions :bleh:

Thats why I linked it ^^

Anyways, I didn't mean for it to be that big, but when I was lookin for images on google, I found thoose and I liked thoose, so I figured I'd use them, but when I started to edit and make it, I was afraid that if I shrank it it would be hard to see...

...anyways, whatd you think? o_0

moogle 17-03-2006 11:13 PM

...thats cheating.
LOL.

Not much sadly, I'm not really that good at making "scary" stuff, I'm a moogle for god sakes! :)

Quintopotere 18-03-2006 11:34 AM

Well, this month theme inspired me, so I've also made a pic, which obviously can't participate to the competition cause I'm so evil that I could make it win, being the judge...

I made it just for "fun"... probably the result is more disturbing than frightening...

Don't look at it for too long, or the subliminal messages contained in it could turn you into a psychopath

Skumpaq 18-03-2006 01:05 PM

Nice! although I must say I was expecting a pentagram. ;)

I like how you put all those words in, what do they mean?

Thanks!

That words come from famous ancient quotes and I've "translated" them (starting from the quote on the top and going down) for you in that way:

- An abyss call another abyss (where "abyss" is used for "evil")
- The "dies irae" is the judgement day (this is not the translation, which was not so significative...)
- Crying is a kind of pleasure
- Nothing dry faster than a tear
- You keep the hand where you suffer
- Life, you order me to renew that sorrow
- Evil come from the evil

Sean 18-03-2006 06:56 PM

I could relinquish your judging duties if need be, I'm not sure If I can participate.

moogle 18-03-2006 08:21 PM

No....you can particiape ;)
I wanna see yours ^^

Modeus 18-03-2006 09:34 PM

Sure Sean, why can't you ?

I'm pleased by your "offer", but you don't have to do that ;)

We're all waiting something from you... and now, I simply can't live without feeling the power of being The Judge :butcher:  ...

... Mmwaha ha ha! You're all under my control...

Sean 19-03-2006 10:20 AM

I may be able to make something eventually. I tried for an hour so yesterday got a lot of crap at the end of it and didn't bother to save :P

I'll try and get something done :P

Busses 22-03-2006 08:35 PM

Do I have time to make something?

You have to post your entry until March the 31st ;)
So probably you have all the time you need!

Do I have to inscribe you in the participants list?

Busses 23-03-2006 10:40 AM

I'm not sure if I will be able to have something ready, my computer has been messing me about for a while, shutting down at random.

Quintopotere 23-03-2006 11:47 AM

Well, I've added you!

Just remember to save often ;) and maybe make an anti-virus-spyware-malware control

Busses 23-03-2006 12:00 PM

Oh but I do have control, I think that the problem is a power surge, because scans have come up negative, and when I checked the setting the power was almost at the cutoff point, I don't know how or if I can change this.

Il do my best to make somthing :)

EDIT:

Alright, I finished my "entry" Took about 2 hours not sure there is much atmosphere, but I tried.

I'll just go with a classic of mine. MSPaint:

moogle 26-03-2006 06:23 AM

I like it...but the text doesn't make any sense.

moogle 26-03-2006 07:19 AM

Ah I see :ok:

Quintopotere 26-03-2006 08:41 AM

Dear TheGiantMidgit, I'm happy to have you again in the month competition :ok:
You know how much we all like your paint works!

TheGiantMidgit 26-03-2006 03:54 PM

Sorry to use an old one, I just really am pressed for time lately.

Quintopotere 26-03-2006 03:57 PM

You really don't have to excuse for using an old drawing! You know, we artists can make wathever we want! ;)

moogle 26-03-2006 07:24 PM

Yup, as long as it fits the catatgory :)

Scarface 29-03-2006 10:31 PM

Well, to all: remember that tomorrow is the last day to post a pic!

Sean 30-03-2006 06:50 PM

Okay, I've started on my piece. I won't be able to finish it tonight. I ask that you do NOT write me off. My piece will be finished by 11pm GMT tommorow. I can't gurantee it'll be any earlier. Sorry!

Serious?

Never, it's art and it's me :P

I've just not had a lot of time to do graphics outside of SovereignCraft.com and now that I've started on the piece I don't want to miss the deadline. Just making sure I get entered, I've missed entry for the last two or three months. :not_ok:

Sean 31-03-2006 05:44 PM

Indeed, he's already entered.

What are you talking about fellow?

I'll give you all a hint as of to what my picture is.

Swaaaash!

Ha, you can't guess it!

Sean 31-03-2006 06:16 PM

Here you go, finished.

http://sovereigncraft.com/gallery/al...thers/Fear.jpg

Explanation: 80% of art is interpretation!

Himmler 31-03-2006 09:16 PM

i don't seem to see any fear in that...and it's not my nickname...

Sean 31-03-2006 09:52 PM

Fair enough, Hitler in my opinion is one of the most widely spread symbols of fear for todays people. He represents both persecution and tyrany. Two things a lot of people still fear today.

Quintopotere 01-04-2006 04:00 PM

That's right friends! All the pics submitted are great and I'll have some difficulties in choosing a winner

So now I'm going to pass (at least) a day in comtemplating ( :zzzzz: ) your creations... untill I'll reach the illumination  about which is the best one...

Master MC 01-04-2006 04:03 PM

Sean's picture is more a propaganda poster.

The theme was fear not scare.

Quintopotere 02-04-2006 06:26 PM

Well these are some thoughts about your amazing pictures!
To value them I've considered the technic, how much they are closed to the contest theme, the idea behind the pics and the feelings they communicate to me.

2more: your pic it's graphically almost perfect, it's a pleasure looking at it! But it has some defects... the first is that the "menacing shadow" is not so easily noticeble (I've some problems in seeing it even now that I know that there is... well, it exists, doesn't it? )
The second problem is that little afraid alien: apart form his body posture, it doesn't communicate me "fear"... it could seem just a bit lonely and bored (maybe it's just about me...)

Busses: well, you have to practice a bit in drawing, but the idea was not so bad... you should improve that pic with some effects and drawing it better!
We all got the idea that fear is something that come out just from our brain, but the pic is so "poor" that hardly communicates feelings. Anyway, you are on the right way, just keep on practicing :ok:

Modeus: Your pic scares me  :hairpull:
That's very well drawn... that "dr. death" coming out from the shadow (which could even seems like a tomb) is so evocative! And as i said already, I fear the needles, so, for that syringe, you'll get a bonus in my valutation ;)

moogle: as you said, you've made just a copy&paste work, but you made it well! And the result is... terrifying fear!
Maybe you could have blended better the mouth/nose on the left (the cut on the left of the nose seems too neat...).

Scarface: your pic is very interesting! you blended very well the images and it makes me feel fear :omg:
The borken glass effect is a good touch! The only bad things are the eye you used (a real eye should be really better) and the font you used (but this is just a personal opinion...)

Sean: Another good work by Sean :ok: All is well blended, that red particular is a genius touch and that pic bring us a very important message ;)
It seems almost a professional propaganda pic... if we don't go to see the "handmade" particular on the Hitler hat :bleh:

swiss: a good photo and some well used effects make a very good pic! ;) You've added those inscriptions perfectly!
But I dislike the way you've cutted the image added over the eye: that ruins your beautyful picture
Anyway, the pic is very evocative :ok:

TheGiantMidgit: Everytime I am very impressed about what you're able to make just with Paint! As you said, you used an old pic, so it doesn't fit perfectly the theme of the fear... but it goes not so far ;)
The only problem is the expression of that.. uh.. "guy"... Which seems more astonished than terrifyed or menacing...
I find just amazing the border you drawn :ok:

So, now it's time to have a winner! I've thought alot and I've changed so many times my decision... but finally, the winner is: Modeus :Brain:
But I have to say to the other participants that you all made very good pics! My compliments!
