Abandonia is a wonderful forum, perhaps with the widest coverage of games. BUT I am surprised that cheats and cheating are freely discussed and allowed by the Mods?
I despise them. I think all the fun of gaming gets lost. If cheats make games so easy why play at all.
The cheaters will disagree with me but I am sure there are more honest gamers. I wonder what the official view is? :wall:

Scatty 26-02-2006 09:08 AM

Just because you despise cheats doesn't mean that cheats are illegal and shouldn't be discussed freely. You don't like them, others do, and they have not less rights than you to do what they have fun with.
I myself used cheats as I always prefer to find everything everywhere out, and prefer playing without them as I noticed how they substract from fun in the games. But sometimes games can be very hard, and if you're not in the mood to storm the same spot again and again in an attempt to overcome that touch passage, you can rely on a quick helping cheat. Take it that way - a helping hand of a friend is always welcome when the times are tough, right? ;)

Havell 26-02-2006 09:11 AM

I see no problem with the posting of cheats in game discussion threads. People may be ruining their gaming experience but that's their problem, it's not like they're coming round your house, holding a gun to your head and forcing you to type them in. Cheaters can always go back and play the game properly.

chickenman 26-02-2006 09:15 AM

I never use cheats unless I'm very stuck, even then I just tend to read a walkthrough, cheating makes games boring. So don't cheat unless you have to. :ok:

Tulac 26-02-2006 10:11 AM

I never cheat, because they are fun for 5 minutes, but if someone likes to cheat I don't mind them, however people who cheat in multiplayer should be :butcher:

Himmler 26-02-2006 12:11 PM

i cheat..in some games...single player games...just some of them :bleh:

U-Boat Commander David 26-02-2006 01:01 PM

I NEVER Cheat  Play fair, even if the game is unfair!Cheating makes gaiming Boring!I don't like cheaters who cheat in singleplayer but i HATE cheaters who cheat in multiplayer! :ranting: :pissed: :hairpull: ! That  <_< shall happen to cheaters!

not really, it rather changes the genre: it can turn a stelth action into a shooting galery or a strategy into an arcade. in one word it lightens games up, and sometimes that's exactly what you're after.

U-Boat Commander David 26-02-2006 01:59 PM

Thats another way to view it!

velik_m 26-02-2006 02:34 PM

if i want to play level 20 of doom 2 - do i have to play levels 1 - 19 also or can i use? i allready played through them hundreds of times!

cheats are usefull sometimes

a1s 26-02-2006 02:39 PM

there's a save function in DOOM 2.

Blood-Pigggy 26-02-2006 02:46 PM

Cheats are okay in singleplayer (I never use them though, I can't understand why people would forgo the challenge, that's what makes the game fun right?) But in multiplayer it's freakin' idiotic.

Himmler 26-02-2006 03:02 PM

i guess we can all say cheating in multiplayer really sucks ...especially in FPS's

U-Boat Commander David 26-02-2006 03:15 PM

yeah in multiplayer it realy sucks if you realise that cheaters are around! This makes me wanna

SirPeter 26-02-2006 03:18 PM

Cheat in multy games no ofcourse!
Cheating in single player mode yes. Usualy after finishing the game.

Sean 26-02-2006 03:25 PM

Cheating in Single Player often provides a few laughs especially in games like Deus Ex

Spawn (Grayx100) !

Multiplayer cheating sucks but also provides some humour if you're on the reciving end. Most cheaters I come across get owned even with their hacks on.

what really sucks about multiplayer cheats, is that when a competent player comes around every n00B considers it a must to call her the cheater.

Himmler 26-02-2006 03:47 PM

LOL Sean you just remembered me of the time when i was almost the only one still playing cs 1.5 and a cheater came (wallhack and speedhack, no aimbot ) and i pwned him so bad (20-3 :D )..oh..it feels so good to beat a cheater :Brain:

Ioncannon 27-02-2006 02:26 AM

I only use cheats to debug maps.

TheGiantMidgit 27-02-2006 03:31 AM

Cheating is good for screwing around with single player games. What's better than bounding down out of the sky, punching some bystander in the face before leaping off again in Morrowind? Or flying a tank above the city in Grand Theft Auto? Screwing up the whole map system in Metroid? Nothing is better, that's what.

#BlakhOle# 27-02-2006 03:49 AM

I pretty much loathe cheats, they just make the game boring: "Hit something, they die straight away. Something hits you, you keep walking like its a troublesome feather or something. Then you kill them. I dont get it. Wheres the fun in that" I enjoy finishing a game normally and playing it again with cheats just to see how fast i can finish it, thats fun. :bleh: And novelty cheats, like mirror maps and stuff. But if i see one more person whos memorized the weapon, health, and no police cheats on San Andreas on playstation, xbox and computer again, i reckon i might lose it. Watching my friends little brother walking around with a rocket launching and letting loose on the main street with police walking past (on San Andreas of course :D ) over and over again is really boring, and really pretty sickening.

so now i have to keep save files for all levels??

sometimes i'm in a mood for carnage and i don't feel like playing all levels just a specific one and i use a cheat - simple as that.

cheats don't always ruin game experience, sometimes they just change it. And when you played game many times, you might want a new gaming experience.

laiocfar 27-02-2006 07:04 AM

Once a cheater, always a cheater :hammer:

worrrrd.

Most of my mates had the cheats memorised for all of the 3d GTA games, and then they bragged when they completed them a few months before me! Of course you did dude... you cheated.. The missions where you have to escape from a police chase.... what's the point if you use the 'no police' cheat? Then it just becomes a drive. Stupid. For me that was the worst example of cheating. Those people aint gamers

I'm 100% cheat free and if I do decide to cheat.. it'll be after I've finished the game. Some cheats are ok, like big head modes, the ones that don't affect the gameplay.

But yeah, people who cheat in multiplayer games are losers

Playbahnosh 27-02-2006 12:38 PM

I do cheat in single player games, but only when I keep dieing all the time in a specific point. I hate it when my character dies in single player games, you have to go through the same way again killing the same monsters or whatever. dieing makes me sad and that's not fun. But even if I cheat I ONLY use the God Mode, nothing else. I NEVER cheat in multiplayer, never. That's dirty stuff, and I hate cheaters in like CS or other online games <_<

What I do in my single player games is my job and don't concern anybody else, but when ppl cheat in multiplayer they ruin the fun of others and get banned...

Tervez 27-02-2006 02:31 PM

I only cheat in single players games, and usually when i`m either stuck or bored. Cheats really ruin the game experience, so i don`t usually save after that.

And when it comes to multiplayer cheaters.... :not_ok:

velik_m 27-02-2006 04:55 PM

speaking of saves... isn't loading a saved game after you die a form of cheating? shouldn't you replay the whole game?

what about exploits - are they OK?

SirPeter 27-02-2006 05:11 PM

Indeed good point velik, everyone cheats on some way or another.
Little bit of hipocritici (spelling) from those ppl who say that cheating in single player mode is bad.

I think this whole single player cheating is just a non-discussion. Its stupid to get upset about this thing.

Getting upset with online cheating is a whole other manner becourse you play with other ppl.

Also some mods are a great enhancements to some games. That is probably seen as cheating by thses ppl to. :tomato:

The Fifth Horseman 27-02-2006 05:25 PM

I don't cheat usually. When I do, it's often because I've beaten the game to hell and back without them and just want to experiment.

Shunk Eat Enemy 27-02-2006 07:37 PM

I think loading in single player games is a form of cheating consider that your playing an FPS and you get killed and load up you know exactly where everyone is. You can bank a grenade of a wall arround a corner and kill someone with that knowledge without even seeing them. It made F.E.A.R. a bit

Blood-Pigggy 27-02-2006 10:26 PM

Well that's one of the things developers are trying to fix.
It's a very good point Shunk.
In a few new games (and old ones) developers are trying to randomize the amount of monsters (or their placement) each time you load.
It'll definitely balance the games a bit more.

gregor 28-02-2006 08:26 AM

btw, walkthroughs (especially in RPG or adventure games) is not much different as cheating. same goes if you ask other people for information. but what happens if you really get stuck and you dont' know either the problem is some bug, amybe you missed somehting or something went wrong, but you don't know where...

happened to me the first time i played UltimaUnderworld. i was so close to the end i never even realised it. was at the last level, but got stuck and didnt' know what went wrong. i thought there is more levels to come and since i already passed alot of them i would probably have to reply basically the whole thing again. so i stopped playing. but next time i used a walkthrough, then i saw where my error was. once i found the thing i missed it was all easy. but like i said at first i had the whole experience ruined.

Same happened in Arx fatalis, but there the onyl thing i had to read was" yoou can kill all persons and still finish the game". good enough for me. somehow i overlooked a key, was searching everywhere for it. but then i used a walkthrough to trace my steps and finnaly i found it. was in hidinf near of my chests - got lost when i threw it off me. really stupid.

I am glad there are some who agree with me :D
BUT I knew I was banging my head against a brick wall :wall: far as the majority is concerned but then blame my age. After reading through some of posts I realize that my topic was an exercise in futility
