wow!
much better then fox ranger, difficulty is much better and movement of spaceship too
however i don't like those "diffusible" colors of buildings, or pylons, or what is it
..heh this game also remembers me my old cell phone=)

Colourful graphics, smooth side-scrolling and animations, good sound but nevertheless its only an average nice shooter.
I think it´s the only game of Pixel Painters which works without slowdown-utility ;-)

This space shooters awsome... after trawling through countless freeware games to try and find this kind of playability, it's a welcome relief. :ok:

Joypad is an absolute for authenticity. I can remember games like this on my commodore c16 :D

I remember back when I had the shareware CD and was young, I had this game but I could never actually play it. All I did was sit at the menu screen, and could read the help file and the storyline, and hear the menu music, but could never play it, and always thought it was some awesome game because the music sounded so compelling and the storyline seemed deep. Just sharing that weirdo story.

Get DOSBox. Install it. Download the game archive. Extract it. Drag'n'drop the XATAX.EXE onto the DOSBox desktop shortcut.

One thing the review didn't mention at all is that this game has a very convenient password system, which even restores your ship status along with all the weapon upgrades you've collected. Thanks to this feature, Xatax turned out to be one of the very few scrolling shooters that didn't make me feel like I was just hopelessly wasting my time having to replay the first few levels over and over again.

It certainly is generic, though, but also polished enough to be entertaining.
