I believe that this game is the "civilization" of economic strategy games.. :)

Anonymous 21-04-2004 02:53 AM

The Niles 21-04-2004 08:53 AM

I agree and I have that one. I could upload it if Kosta is okay with it.

Danny252 22-04-2004 06:56 PM

also theres a patch for winXP and 2000 which also adds new stuff and options.

Icemant90 25-04-2004 03:46 PM

I have TTDX and its MUCH better than original.

Danny252 25-04-2004 07:07 PM

we stated that earlier.

Why can't I get this thing to work?

I've been reading the above comments for this game, and I realized that Guest had the exact same problem as I have. I just can't get Tycoon to play on my Windows XP....

(And yes, Jean-Luc, I have downloaded DosBox.)

My efforts have accomplished nothing. The game still won't run. The closest I have come sofar is when running without the DosBox, but then it's only a blurred image of the logo, before the program self-closes and I am back to square one?

Could it be that the download link have missed some essential files?

Please help me.

Tom Henrik 30-04-2004 11:14 AM

By the way. When I use DosBox, all that happens is the first line in dos appear (The one who tells you the version of the game and the creator) and then it just comes to a halt. I can wait forever, but nothing happens.

The Niles 30-04-2004 11:58 AM

No surprises there I'm afraid Tom Henrik. Transport Tycoon does not work in XP or DOSBox. You will have to wait until DOSBox becomes compatible with Transport Tycoon or play it on a DOS/Win9x system.
The DOSBox people do claim that TT runs on the current CVS build for DOSBox. If true the next release should be able to run TT.

Tom Henrik 30-04-2004 01:25 PM

Wait?!

Well....

This surely puts a damper on my spirit today. I really wanted to play TT again.

Do you perhaps know when the next release of DOSBox is available?

The Niles 30-04-2004 05:20 PM

The usual answer for such a question would be, "when it's done". DOSBox is a project worked on by volunteers and enthusiasts (just like Abandonia). They work on it as much as possible but real life invariably gets in the way. That said, it has been less then three months since the last release. I would not expect a new version to be released for some time yet. You could try and get the cvs build version that supports TT. Ask around at the DOSBox forums how to get a hold of that one. http://vogons.zetafleet.com/index.php?c=7

Tom Henrik 30-04-2004 06:29 PM

Thanks. I'll give it a try :D

Havell 11-06-2004 11:19 PM

You can download TTDX elsewhere on the internet, it works on XP though it runs in a window (can't figure out how to make it run normally though it running in a window may be why it does not crash). To find it just search google for "tranport tycoon"+abandonware.

FreeFreddy 12-06-2004 05:54 AM

To run it in fullscreen, you need your desktop resolution set to 640x480 and I don't think you can do that under Windows XP manually.

DeathCore 12-06-2004 02:43 PM

uhm, yes you can...
goto desktop properties --> settings
and click advanced
then goto adapter and click "List all modes"
I think that should of helped you ;)

FreeFreddy 12-06-2004 03:15 PM

Hmm, yes! Thanks! :D What a fool I am to not have found this earlier...

Omuletzu 12-06-2004 06:28 PM

You can also change the resollution with regedit.

Tom Henrik 17-06-2004 08:27 PM

Can someone please help me with this?

The DosBox game list says that version 0.61 can play this game, but I cannot seem to get it to work....

All I get is a black screen without sound.

FreeFreddy 18-06-2004 06:35 AM

I also couldn't get it to run in DosBox, tried everything (expanded / extended memory disable / enable, Loadfix...). It runs perfect under Winows 98 though. Sorry if this doesn't help you really

Data 18-06-2004 01:04 PM

set core=full in dosbox.conf and try again.
It works fine then (not with core=normal the default.)

Tom Henrik 18-06-2004 02:18 PM

How do I do that?
Please give me the command I need to type...

Thanks.

Data 18-06-2004 02:44 PM

uhm in the start menu there is a shortcut to dosbox.conf (it has a notepad icon)
click on it and search for core=
when you've found it change that line to
core=full

then save and start dosbox
Becarefull game isn't very fast because of it's complexity. but playabe.

Tom Henrik 18-06-2004 02:54 PM

Again.
Thanks :D

agamemnon 12-08-2004 09:17 AM

To play TTDX its best to use the patch, and the patch is needed to play it under XP. The patch is made by a few enthousiastics, and is still adding a lot of features to TTDX. You can get it at http://www.ttdpatch.net/ (You need to have Transport Tycoon DELUXE before you can run the patch)

FreeFreddy 12-08-2004 11:17 AM

Quite logically, isn't it...

Eagle of Fire 13-09-2004 07:54 AM

While I failed miserably to make this game work with Windows XP, I remember having no problem at all running it with Windows 98.

I remember loving to get a lot of road vehicles at the start of the game, but if you wanted to do some serious cash you had to go railroad. Then, later on, go airplane and use the transport routes as a little sideline to get some reputation with the cities.

FreeFreddy 13-09-2004 12:39 PM

Or you can use the ships instead of the planes - cheaper and more profit right at beginning, while planes don't bring that much as the ships at beginning.

Eagle of Fire 13-09-2004 06:23 PM

Yeah, I forgot about the ships. I always use by mid-late game, they are very profitable.

The Niles 13-09-2004 08:23 PM

The hovercraft especially. Those can make millions a year as soon as I can get them I start opening routes with them.

Tom Henrik 30-09-2004 09:51 AM

The latest version of DOSBox plays this game perfect, without any problems. :ok:

You can get version 0.62 here.

MeTaLiQo 02-01-2005 08:35 PM

This is the best game of the world.

I'm spanish.

Can someone explain to me how to work DOSbox please?

Transport Tycoon Deluxe is installed, I follow the instructions to mount C, then use the CHDIR command to move to the location that TTDX is installed, but when I try to run the game it tells me the CD is not in, when it is.

What's going on?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

DSmidgy 12-01-2005 02:13 PM

Why do you need a CD?

If you have a CD, you must mount it also. There's a link domwhere in the forum. Try all the options until you find the one that works.

Guest 31-01-2005 12:33 PM

no u choose the wrong icon. try all other icons!

ShortStuff 04-02-2005 10:46 PM

Man, U guys should really use D-fend if u find it hard to use DOSBOX. D-fend uses dosbox but the set up is so much easier. U dont have to type in self commands, just click what u want to do etc.
REMEMBER: D-Fend :sneaky:

JKF 22-02-2005 05:18 PM

I played this with a pal like 8 years ago. Awesome game. BUT!!! Back then we made our own maps with a map-editor. This one hasn't got that for some reason. Anyone know where I can get a map-editor for this cool game?????

caesar007 22-02-2005 05:39 PM

hhmm the review says no multiplayer , but the one i bought a few years ago does have multiplayer and also a mapeditor ....

JKF 22-02-2005 05:43 PM

I'm gonna get the deluxe edition. Maybe there's a map-editor in that one......?

Amiga 24-02-2005 09:39 AM

Oh my god! I had been searching for a way to run this game on XP for ages, and so I find the program you have features on the site, DOS Box. It has saved my life!
I haven't played Transport Tycoon since gradeschool, this is simply exilarating!

Thanks for putting this game forth!

Antaeus 30-03-2005 01:06 PM

Yes he's very special for using Linux.

And the version of Delux I had had a random creation engine and a scenario builder if I remember right.

PrejudiceSucks 30-03-2005 04:47 PM

Yeah, I have the original on CD (deluxe that is) and I used to play it a lot. But I can't seem to find it at the mo.

Misty55 07-05-2005 06:11 AM

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out with the fact of, why there isn't any music with the regular TT. I really love that music. It's what makes the game better, for me anyways. Does anyone know how I can get the music to work. The sound works just fine, but the music doesn't, and there isn't anything for me to where I can configure it to the right music card or anything of that sort, so I'm stumped. Any help would be nice. Thanks ^_^

Dreg'atar 07-05-2005 08:23 AM

are you running the game on windows xp?

PrejudiceSucks 07-05-2005 10:04 AM

I had this problem and them mysteriously as soon as I put it on XP it worked fine... odd....

No idea how to fix it on '98 or DOS (I presume you are using one of those)

Misty55 08-05-2005 12:06 AM

I'm running it off of Windows ME. Even when I loaded it on my friend's XP computer, it still wouldn't work. If I had the original disk, I know it would work fine, but I'm using the download from this site, so I don't know if they accidentally left out a file or what, so I was just wondering if anyone would knew how to fix it. Doesn't seem like it though :P

Dark Piedone 29-11-2005 05:49 PM

When I bought my first computer someone installed Win 98 and 3 games, one of them was Transport Tycoon, that happened 4 years ago, friends were laughing at me that I was so addicted of this game but I didn't give a damn of them, this game has his defects, nothing is perfect, but I played how it was, good or bad, very few games had impressed me so much like Transport Tycoon.

:tnx: Abandonia !!!

djurre 17-12-2005 11:46 AM

Can someone tell me, how to do a "clean" uninstall of this game ?

I installed it on my mom's, and she i rather hyped up about clean installs through the softwaretab. there is a ttconfig file, and a unFish file, both, i asume, have something to do with uninstalling. doesnt work though.

What should i do ? shft+del ?

Guest 21-12-2005 01:37 PM

If you go to the control painel, you have access to the task remove software, and i think you can remove there.

Summed up:
- More futuristic vehicles (and maglev)
- 3 more terrain types (desert, arctic, toyland)
- Scenario editor
- Multiplayer network support (TCP/IP and IPX/SPX)
- Better interface
- Refittable ships and planes
- Less bugs :P

This really gave me a suprise-the style of landscape and game navigation is familiar to Roller Coaster Tycoon I and II.

--Apparently it was programmed by the same people--

Roller Coaster Tycoon is an awesome game, this looks like an awesome game too, it's just that, it crashes DOSBox in OS X.

Guest 04-05-2006 03:55 PM

Well, I`ve been playing this game for a long time now, and I think it`s just perfect! The graphics and the all-living fluctuating world are awesome!

The only bad thing in the game is probably the silly AI, that sometimes build just very dumb road combinations and make their veichle`s way much longer than it could be... :(
And of course the veichle and station number limit spoils the game at the very "progressive" for player places... :(

But I like the game! :)

Guest 04-08-2006 12:59 PM

I habe a Problem!!!
If i play Tycoon, then i cant hear Sounds and Music!
And then later it has got a crash in my PC and then the Game is ended!
Why?

priez 06-08-2006 10:40 PM

Check openttd.org. Its an Multiplayer Addon.

Chris Sawyer was working on a Windows-based sequal to Transport Tycoon, when he went and rode a roller coaster for the first time. That is when he thought "Hey, I bet I can build roller coasters on that game engine for the next TT" (heavily paraphrased). The result was Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Guest 28-09-2006 05:03 AM

I have an unopend Box of transport tycoon Delux.
Liked the game so much as a kid i went out and bought another copy just incase. But I still can't get mine to run on my XP!!

gregor 28-09-2006 12:16 PM

the version here is equipped with a windows patch. Should help you run it in windows XP.

gary 01-10-2006 09:51 AM

i'm currently downloading the game, i have xp, will tat affect me?? i cant find the actual cd in stores here in new zealand, where can i get a copy, or do i have to just get it illegally, i used to have it and to had no music, just sound effects, wat causes that to happen?

The Fifth Horseman 02-10-2006 01:20 PM

Use DosBox.

guest osk 05-02-2007 02:32 PM

since i liked this game, i was pleasantly surprised to find a similar game in the shops, kind of old, but that meant my already overtaxed pc would handle it easily, the name was not -- tycoon, but giant

from a review:
Quote:

As with all games, the first thing you look for is a tutorial. No such luck. A manual or readme file then. No luck there either, not on the CD that the game came on, nor the official website. Then you get to thinking, “Hey, maybe this is a game that, in its elegant simplicity, does not require a tutorial or a manual”. So you have a go. Several hours later, after you’ve exhausted techniques such as mashing the keyboard (the Windows key gets you out onto your desktop) and thrashing (where you click on everything you can see) you begin to realise that you’ll have to turn elsewhere for help. “To the Batcave! Oops, I mean internet!”[/b]
the questions on the forum ranged from hard to "how do i build a station"

its a very nice game, with much more economy than tycoon, but the lack of anything like a list of key functions makes it hard. it took me 1 hour to find out spacebar rotates objects

Guest 05-02-2007 05:00 PM

I guess you mean Industry Giant. Yes know that one, though I didn't like it like I did Transport Tycoon.

Guest 24-02-2007 10:37 PM

If you can't get it to work in XP, try using Locomotion. It has the same interface and same basic idea. It's also made by the same programmer. The only downside is that it costs money. Or, if you want to try an even more funnerer game, try Rollercoaster Tycoon. I hope I don't sound to negative or sarcastic.

DAC 21-04-2007 10:29 PM

I think TT is the best game I ever played!!! I play him since 1999 and I am loving him still in 2007

Majestic 26-04-2007 10:56 PM

Hey,
it´s right, with the latest DOSBox it´s perfect...... nearly......the music should be included...
is there any way to download it from the "Music"-link on the TT-Download-Side? Would be great!!
Yours,
Majestic

arms2serve 24-06-2007 10:43 AM

Ok the game is running with DOS Box under XP but I can't hear the sound. Please tell me what to do as that music is half the nostalgia to me, thanx.

The Fifth Horseman 25-06-2007 12:26 PM

Run the game's setup and configure it accordingly to the values you've set DOSBox to use.
If you didn't change anything, that will be Sound blaster 16, IRQ 7, DMA 1, Adress 220.

Guest 11-10-2007 07:45 AM

Maybe someone can help me. I can´t build any vehicles in the game, but can´t find out why not.

The Fifth Horseman 11-10-2007 08:25 AM

New forms of transport becomes available at specific years in the game.

This Day would come!

Back in the day when DOS ruled and the games that MPS made like...Transport Tycoon...Colonization...F117...Gunship...Task Force...and others. O by the way I have all the games that Micropose made and still play them today....ERROR free. How you asked well I knew this day would come when all the old 8088...286...386...486 machines would all but be gone. Not me I held on to the old mechines and they still run great and I use them to play all the great games the MPS made along with others. Wish you were here.
