I would like to talk about my most favourite band of all, U2. I guess anyone in this forum should know them and at least one of their songs. What do you thin of them? Do you have a favourite/hate song? Is Bono's political behaviour positive or negative... Lemme hear your opinions!

troop18546 26-09-2005 07:35 PM

Well, "Beautiful Day" is my favorite song. They are one of the few groups that made good songs. This generation's music apreciation is poor so I'm glad that youre not one of them. Hooray for U2 (get it? You too (U2))??? LOL

Mr Miau 26-09-2005 07:40 PM

Yes, in fact I don't know many who like this kind of music, too. My favourites are Love Is Blindness, Discotheque, Mysterious Ways and Sometimes You Can#t Make It On Your Own... Great songs to sing along or to make a funny dance (Discotheque ;).

Chuck the plant 26-09-2005 08:25 PM

I like much of their stuff up to the "Joshua Tree"-album, but after that it was more or less downhill... except for "Vertigo", which is a pretty damn good song... :ok:

BeefontheBone 26-09-2005 08:38 PM

Bits and pieces, if I'm in the right frame of mind. Their albums are always full of filler though.

Scarface 27-09-2005 04:31 AM

What a good band they are.... My favorite songs are in "the best of 1980 -1990" album. However, I think their recent albums are good as well.

:band:

omg 27-09-2005 09:31 AM

sunday bloody sunday and one. dont like there new stuff tho.

Mr Miau 27-09-2005 06:26 PM

@Scarface: Hopefully, you already discovered the hidden track, October.

Many people think they got worse after The Joshua Tree, but I think it's only that many couldn't handle the change of style the next albums brought. All these guys should listen to the two newer albums, which came a little bit closer to the old days...

troop18546 27-09-2005 06:44 PM

Oh yeah, Discoteque and Vertigo are to of the best. Thanx 4 reminding meh.

Mr.Snuggles 27-09-2005 06:58 PM

Congratulations! I were on their concert this august in munich, unbelievable! Never had such feelings before (it was my first u2-concert and I'm still quite young).

To ATYCLB: The first 7 songs are just amazing, but afterwards the only highlight for me is New York, the rest can be quite boring...

blastradius14 29-09-2005 05:36 AM

I love U2.

Bloody Sunday...

lethe 29-09-2005 12:45 PM

I liked U2 back in the old days. Joshua Tree is a good album... To what comes to the new albums, one of my favorite reviewers might shed a light on you about what I think of them now.

Eheh yes, but you could say the same to those that started websites trying to make his close.

Plus, he does have his good, meaningful moments, in his very own satirical way:

Quote:

Bono indicts America for being hypocritical with these lines:

* * Would you deny for others
* * What you demand for yourself?

Bono could not be reached for comment as he was stepping off his private jet and into his limousine.

I dont know what to say about U2. Their only song ive heard is Bloody Sunday.

U2...its a nice name.

Fruit Pie Jones 29-09-2005 08:24 PM

Before it was a band, high-altitude recon jet, or submarine, it was one of these:

http://www.pilotfriend.com/century-o...images2/27.jpg
Polikarpov U-2 (later Po-2) biplane

From Wikipedia:
Quote:

The U-2 became famous as the plane used by the 588 NBAP (588th Night Bomber Regiment), composed of all-women pilots and ground crew. The unit became known for its daring low-altitude night raids on German rear-area positions, veteran pilots Katya Ryabova and Nadya Popova on one occasion flying 18 such missions in a single night. German troops considered them more than a nuisance, and gave them the nickname Nachthexen (night witches). The unit earned numerous Hero of the Soviet Union and dozens of Order of the Red Banner medals; most surviving pilots had flown nearly 1000 combat missions at the end of the war and had taken part in the Battle of Berlin (1945). Their usual tactics involved flying only a few meters above the ground, rising for the final approach, cutting off the engine and making a gliding bombing run, leaving the targetted troops with only the eerie whistling of the wind in the wings' bracing-wires as an indication of the impending attack. Luftwaffe fighters found it extremely hard to shoot down the Kukuruznik, because the stall speed of both the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 exceeded the Soviet craft's maximum speed.
That's just nifty. To get back on-topic, U2 was the first band I ever saw in concert, on March 21, 1992, in Albany, NY. Great show.

Kearnsy 05-10-2005 05:01 AM

Of course Fruit Pie would know the answer!!!! :ok:

I like all there albums (even the new stuff) but there older stuff is still my favourate.

Chuck the plant 05-10-2005 06:44 AM

But the band STILL named themselves after the espionage-plane and not after the russian biplane... :D ;)

Mr Miau 05-10-2005 06:23 PM

And for the pun. :D
