SupSuper 22-09-2005 05:52 PM

I came for the work (translations), and stayed for the fun :P

taikara 22-09-2005 05:58 PM

I joined because I had found pretty much the entire Sierra collection here (my lovelies), and registered to suggest someone add Wishbringer, because it's one of my favorite games ever (note the reviewer :P )

They had an art section, and everyone was so nice (unusual on a site-connected forum, imho), I just stayed. :)

DeathDude 22-09-2005 06:01 PM

I believe I was surfing around one day and was like whoa check out the games here some ones I always wanted to try and some I already have played back in the day then checked out the forum starting posting away and it was a nice community all around and well 9 months later still here. :D

Hehe I also found this website looking for Sierra games, got them all before they got taken down. And with the help of other websites I got all the LSL, KQ, PQ and SQ games :D (though I think I'm missing a modern SQ game)

Kon-Tiki 22-09-2005 06:07 PM

I stumbled upon this place through a friend of mine, who isn't a member, but regularly checks the site itself. Found all the games I was looking for for years here, made a few steps into the forum (check the Stunts-thread in Game Discussion :bleh: ), then finally registered, to ask how I could submit games... and eventually stayed, as the attitude towards certain games was what I lacked in so many other games sites (but that changed after an incident) Now I'm stuck here, and can't imagine never having registered here :D

efthimios 22-09-2005 06:18 PM

I first found this site I think a couple of years ago or even more, never checked the forums, and quickly left. I forgot about it and once I was trying to get some help on Xcom, found this site by accident (forgotten about it and all), and checked the forums where I posted my first question/post as a registered user.
After that I stayed because I am a gamer, I like older games and thought that I could help others with questions they might have. The rest is history.

Himmler 22-09-2005 06:29 PM

i knew abandonia since 2001 but only registered in 2005

Chuck the plant 22-09-2005 06:34 PM

Take my username and guess which game got me here... made the first posts in the corresponding topic as a guest (but same name) and dedided to stay mostly to pi** some people off... :sneaky: :D

Tom Henrik 22-09-2005 06:39 PM

I wanted to say "thank you for UFO: Enemy Unknown", and I'll bugger off when I think I have said it loud enough ;)

Doubler 22-09-2005 06:48 PM

After looking over the archive, I believe I found this site somewhere between february and march 2003, after looking for Turoid (which I didn't actually find on the site, by the way :P). At that time I was limited by a dreadful internet connection which I only had access to during the weekends, and besides that I was new to the internet. As such I didn't really check/know about the forums.
I kept returning to the site for some reason (sorry that I can't be more specific, I guess I just loved the site :P ), and eventually I decided to join out of respect for it. I still didn't have the connection to participate in the forums, so I made only one post during that time, if I recall correctly. It's still there in the Star Trek 25th Anniversary discussion thread. Because I didn't know how to use forums I kind of forgot to log in, though, so it's registered as a guest :P

And then it came to pass that we upgraded our i-net connection, and a whole new world opened for me. I could finaly read the forums whenever I wanted to :w00t: (and not to mention: download what I wanted to  )
I believe the first post I made with that better connection (allthough I'm not entirely sure about that) was one to rectify a little mistake Sebatianos made in his review of Shadows of Mordor  (it's still not fixed, by the way  )
Thanks for not hating me for that, Sebatianos :ok:

Anyway, I started learning about the forums, I started to get to know the members (allthough some members from that time seem to have dissappeared :( ), and I started to post (a bit) more. I kind of stuck to these forums after that.

I took my first forum steps on this site, and I don't think I could've had better luck in that :ok:

Oh, and sorry for the lengthy post :)

Danny252 22-09-2005 07:02 PM

hmm.. I believe I came from soem random abandonware ring and.. uh.. it has good games. a few.
Back then, the guestbook made do as a forum and there was no VIP to speak of...
I stayed because I had nothing better to do.

A. J. Raffles 22-09-2005 07:09 PM

I joined during a time when the Mordor forums were getting kind of quiet.

Sebatianos 22-09-2005 07:18 PM

I remember I was looking for a manual for Pinball Fantasies - but couldn't find it anywhere. I found Pinball Dreams though on this site and saw they had quite a few good games (it was prior to ESA encounter - so the site still hosted LOST VIKINGS). Some time later (when I finally got the cable conection at my apartment) I returned to this site - and saw how many new things it had.

I was very surprised to see that the site was being translated to Croatian (I even sent in some translations of my own).

I was really hooked on Project Nomad, but couldn't really remember the name of it. So I joined the forum, introduced myself (got a warm welcome) and finally asked about the game. I got a chance to review it - along with some other games - and seeing my reviews posted to the site really got me hooked - especially after the Slovene translations got going.

Also the comunity here has always been very friendly and I try my best to keep that spirit going.

Stroggy 22-09-2005 07:19 PM

I came here to ask a technical question and I kind of got stuck here... much like an inquisitive explorer gets stuck in particularly slow quicksand.

i seriously don't know what made me stay, the forum was as good as empty with about two posts a day (I'd call that a good day) but quickly things started rolling and we got new members. I've even personally welcomed a few of the now moderators to the forum! :D

Nick 22-09-2005 07:19 PM

One day I was searching for some old game (don't remember) and came to this site. I liked it very much and decided to join the community.

Fruit Pie Jones 22-09-2005 07:21 PM

I found the site while looking for Ultima VI because I had a hankerin' to relive the carefree days of my youth. This was before the ESA crackdown, so I picked up U6 and a coupe of other classics I remembered.

I stayed because Chuck's such a nice guy.

Tulac 22-09-2005 07:29 PM

I was searching for abandoned games, and I stumpled upon abandonia, I saw there was a Croatian version, I was stunned, so I decided to take a look at the forums and saw that "Games in need of reviews" topic, fromm there on I uploaded a game and made a review...
I made a couple of other reviews(I'm lazy now), but I've decided to stick here because of people...

allyfaucet 22-09-2005 11:36 PM

I joined to annoy Reamus, among other reasons. :bleh:

I'm still here because I'm addicted, and I'm waiting until I get my computer so I can actually start playing games :wall:

moogle 22-09-2005 11:53 PM

Joined because I saw this site in a magazine article, and after I figured out that MSN's DL manager refuses to coperate with HOTU, I cam over to here ^_^

I stayed because its a nice place, nice people, and over all a very nice site. Plustheres another moogle fan...which is always a bonus ^_^

Blood-Pigggy 23-09-2005 12:00 AM

I joined because I had been hovering around the site for a year and yet never took one look at the forums.
I stayed because I love all of you.
And for the realistic answer: For some reason, this place is fun.

Sameeralord 23-09-2005 03:35 AM

I found this site searching for Monkey islands to download but unfortunately it was still sold. But then I downloaded some other great games and joined the forum for game matters but later was very impressed with multi talents and maturity of the forum. So I stayed and now I'm most of the time in blah blah blah, arts or techinical questions section.

Doc Adrian 23-09-2005 04:16 AM

Sierra Games, Google, and plenty of rum.

I wasn't looking for the site really, but glad I found it.

Kearnsy 23-09-2005 04:25 AM

I came looking for UFO. Then found the forum and got interested.
This is the first forum I've joined...
.... and very glad I did! :)

TheGiantMidgit 23-09-2005 04:52 AM

I consider the forum a kind of oasis when I'm net travelling, just found it while looking for old Dos games.

RedHeadSebbe 23-09-2005 05:57 AM

I joined for translation and are not finished yet...:Nut i think i stay here after thet because of all the friends and fiends :P

Grinder 23-09-2005 06:16 AM

I think I came because I had a question about colonization or something like that.
Then I saw everyone was so nice, and the games were good, so I stayed. This is my favourite forum.

Reup 23-09-2005 06:45 AM

I joined to upload a bunch of screenshots I had made whilst playing the entire Space Quest series :) I stayed because erm... well just because I guess.

rainwife 23-09-2005 10:26 AM

Well, I joined it because Seb was spending way too much time here and he was laughing all the time and telling me stuff or about people here, so I wanted to come and see for myself.
Then I helped Seb with Slovene translations.
Anyway, I don't post to often anymore, but I am still around and I read some topics, otherwise, I am not so important here - everybody will remeber me on account of Seb.

Kearnsy 23-09-2005 10:45 AM

Aww, come on. Thats not true!!!

When I see your name in the active members list I dont think of Seb I think of the Puppy running around the screen and the cool dog avitar.
(I've got a big stuffed toy like that dog)

Sure I have not talked with you that much yet, but you definately have an independant image in my mind.

TheChosen 23-09-2005 11:18 AM

My friend told about Abandonia, that it had a game that i was looking for (Cant remember the game tought). I spented a couple of months, jumping at time to time to look at your new games.

But then, one day, i clicked the forum.

And thats the day i joined the abandonia. First i used a crappy avatar-avatar, but then it changed into paladin, thief and now, Vincent.

Why i stayed?
I had so fun with you guys. Id like to thank all those months we were together.

I love you all.

troop18546 23-09-2005 02:18 PM

I saw this place, while looking for abw games, I could've joined sooner but this was a very big forum. I stayed here cause I liked the community.

Sean 23-09-2005 04:45 PM

Kon-Tiki and I were discussing Enclosure once upon a time and.. heh he linked me here. After the 50th time of such a linking I checked the place out and got involved in the abandonia family. Have had fun here... especially in the art section.

Playbahnosh 24-09-2005 11:30 PM

I stubled upon SQ: Replicated, played it and wanted to know the real series, I was hunting and I got here...

Why stayed? Simple: This is the only community on the interet I found, that VALUES MY WORK!!! And you can get into the VIP section if you work for the site :D

Believe me I joined countless forums before, but Abandonia is the ONLY place I post regurarly! You guys are like a family to me now :D You helped me when I needed it the most (thanks SEB ;) ) and here really counts what I say. Amazing! :D

THANKS!

plague 25-09-2005 04:22 PM

Why not? No reason to leave... No reason why not to join.

Hey, what are friends for

Bobbin Threadbare 26-09-2005 01:29 AM

The thread title sounds like you want people leaving. Why did you join? And why did you stay?

I joined cuz I felt bored, so I went to the Abandonia forums.

Sorry, next time I'll write "What are you doing here?" :P

I just wanted to know exactly what made people click the Forums link on the website menu one day (usually techincal issues), and then become a "regular" instead of just disappearing after getting their issues resolved (or not). Since I'm kinda new here, it helps to know what brought this community together (besides abandonware) ;)

Bobbin Threadbare 26-09-2005 02:35 AM

Again, I was bored.

Abi79 26-09-2005 02:12 PM

I came here from The <don't remember> Classic Games Archive. After some time I saw on this site Ringworld and downloaded it. As always I had problems runnig it (saving more exactly :D ) and Sebatianos along with some other members helped me. That made me join this forum 'cause I thought it was very friendly. :Brain:

Romano 26-09-2005 02:50 PM

I have paid to join
After few posts I was arbitrary baned, so I have to pay again
And because of that I lost my Member number 3

kura 26-09-2005 03:07 PM

My b.f recomened it.

Argith Nuei 27-09-2005 06:59 PM

I stumbled upon this site while browsing the net for Abandonware.
After checking out the site a bit i started using the forum some.
When I saw they were in shorty supply of norwegian translators I asked if I could be of any help. After that i started a few reviews and found that it was just what I needed to keep my mind of the fact that I would be dragged up at 0600 hours every morning for the next 5-6 months. Abandonia has been my home away from home since i discovered it, but alas it all seems to be coming to a halt at the moment. For how long I cant say, but i hope to be online again eventually.
Sorry :ot: It,s been great getting to know some of you and I wish I could get to know the rest as well. Until I get online once more. See ya, and keep this site up and going will ya. :bye:

Mr.Snuggles 27-09-2005 07:02 PM

Same thing Argith Nuei said. I also came here for the really really cool DOS Games I always wanted to play that I never ever got a chance to play. Well.....Duke Nukem 3D and Blood were the ones i played. I stayed because wanted to watch this site turn into a decent place to get Abadonware games.

win98 27-09-2005 07:17 PM

because i like this place and like posting

Ioncannon 27-09-2005 11:59 PM

I join abandonia cause I LOVE DOS GAMES!!!!!!! yea and I stayed cause the people here are very nice and fun to talk too :D.

swiss 28-09-2005 06:45 AM

Same for me. I love the good old games where gameplay counted more than graphics and effects.

I came here via a google-search for Dynablaster ( )

Then I just thought that I have some free time and could do somethign really useful so I started to review games and helping the German translators ...

And now I even got VIP status ... :Brain:

This site RULEZ !!!

(If you think I am useful then thank Tom and Kosta - it's mostly their fault that I am doing stuff here :D )
