Bernie 17-08-2005 01:14 PM

actually, it is freeware, microsoft released it for free

It is better suited for reloaded then abandonia

earth200 17-08-2005 04:09 PM

o ok i always though freeware was public made games and abandon ware games given free from companys thank you for informing me

Bernie 18-08-2005 11:44 AM

no, abandonware are games, that companies no longer support. They are not released for free, and it is actually illegal to download them.

Freeware games are games that are released free to the public, so that anyone can download them and distribute them. It doesn't matter who has made them, as long as they are legally free to distribute and download.

Oh hoho, let's not get intp THIS shall we? Abandonware games ARE legal to download, otherwise we wouldn't be here, now would we. Let's not give anyone new here the wrong impression. We even comply with ESA.

Remember kids, abandonware is LEGAL! (it's oldwarez that aren't legal).
Now get it right Bernie or i'll flagpole your boxers.

Doubler 18-08-2005 12:11 PM

Are you kidding MrBackAlleySka?
From the site's FAQ:
Quote:

Wikipedia: "Abandonware is computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder. Alternately, the term is also used for software which is still available, but on which further support and development has been deliberately discontinued." Since the software is no longer sold or supported, the copyright holders are not directly harmed in any way. This is why abandonware sites are, for the most part, ignored by the law. The distribution of copyrighted software however is, and will allways be, illegal!
At best we're 'semi-legal', whatever that means :P

Bernie 18-08-2005 12:49 PM

... You know abandonia itself admits it's illegal.. so what is your problem?

what do you think all the problems with ESA are about?

bruno 18-08-2005 02:54 PM

But abandonia try to keep some limits , because if they are piss off ESA can make some damage here, the best way is flowed by Kosta and company.

MrBackAlleySka 18-08-2005 05:50 PM

Pffft. Something isn't Illegal if you get away with it. It's only illegal if you get caught and reprimanded. :P Anyways, I don't care what's written where, the site's doing nothing illegal. That "Copyright stuff is heald under copyright for 95 or so years, and NO software game has been through that 95 or so year limit yet" garbage is just wastes of font pixels. Unless you'd enjoy calling those stupid laws like "No slapping a man on the back in Georgia, you can't have a girraffe tied to a pole in wherever, no swimming in the middle of a dry road during church" laws, laws that need upholding. A law is an enforced rule, if you don't inforce that law...well. Abandonware's legal. Deal with it.

Bernie 18-08-2005 05:59 PM

No matter how stupid you think the law is, it is still in a technical way illegal!

The thing is just that the owners of the games either don't care, or don't exist anymore. Still it is illegal, no matter what your personal opinion is. So stop saying something other than the truth!

I think what Doubler said, that abandonware is semi-legal, suits the best. But it is still not LEGAL.

anyway you brought this thread way off-topic. :ot:

Fruit Pie Jones 18-08-2005 06:00 PM

Enforcement has nothing to do with the legality of something. It does not matter if a law is enforced or not; violating that law is still illegal. If the law is not enforced, there will simply be no consequences for the violation. That does not, however, mean that the law doesn't exist.

I assume you're joking. Well, I hope you're joking.

MrBackAlleySka 18-08-2005 11:17 PM

Heh, yes I was jokin'. Sorry to bring the thing off topic, I didn't mean to piss people off, just....eh, forget it. Off topic am I. Anywho, Allegiance is awesome, except I could never get it to run for online. Training worked great, but clicking the Online icon, gave me a "missing dll" warning. I went to the site, and it told me how to fix it, but that never worked either...I don't remember heh. Ahh well :D Good game, it'd be great for reloaded.org

Freeware, ready for Abandonia Reloaded :ok:

(OWList says it's sold, but it's wrong)

Dave 08-09-2007 01:31 PM

It's freeware but I didn't find it on Abandonia Reloaded, topic moved from FoN to requests.
Here's the official link: http://www.freeallegiance.org/
OWList says it's sold, but the game now is Freeware.
