Rate the best antivirus :bleh: !

Data 20-07-2005 08:34 AM

Using linux solves almost all virus problems I used to have.

I've heard good things about the corperate version of norten antivirus though

Apocalypse Dude 20-07-2005 08:40 AM

I use McAfee, In combination with Mozilla Firefoz this usually keeps the most virus outside, and ofcourse a good firewall (Black Ice).. :kosta:

btw.. Does somebody knows if Mozilla Thunderrbird is a decent e-mail client, I'm still using Outlook and I'm getting sick of it....

MdaG 20-07-2005 10:58 AM

I'm using Thunderbird, it's good. As Data said, switching to Linux solved my virusproblems. I used to have Norton or Norman in Windows.

Firewall in Windows is Zone Alarm and in Linux I make due with iptables.

Sameeralord 20-07-2005 11:07 AM

I use Norton AntiVirus but the only reason I use it is because it came with the pc. Norton Antivirus basically covers what I want. I don't know much about other Virus scanners so this topic would be good one to get my understanding a lever higher of these Virus scanners because viruses get better/harder to beat with the moving of technology.

Stroggy 20-07-2005 11:09 AM

I use Norton, but it's not that great, it's a virus detector since I usually end up deleting the viruses myself.

Shrek 20-07-2005 11:16 AM

i chosed Norton because it is the one i use, but i guess most of them are competent enough to keep a computer clean... just as long as virus definitions are kept updated :max:

I used Norton for two years thinking that it was the best. But then I decided to opt for a change and searched many websites to find that people were no longer happy with norton. I decided to opt for a change and decided to go for its old competetor McAfee and I really suggest everyone to go for McAfee! It's better! It can control adware too! Plus there are some advanced options also. I am using McAfee 8.0i.

Heard a lot about Kaspersky but it is also resource consuming! AVG Free Edition is the favourite of many people, but wait the poll is yet to get full response!

i hate norton. it chews up system resources. it makes long instilations of other software screw up. i hate it more than i hate any other piece of software ever. my wifes pc came with norton installed to a level where you CANT UNINSTALL IT (without a windows hack) pure pure evil.

vipin 20-07-2005 11:35 AM

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL !!!

Quintopotere 20-07-2005 11:35 AM

I voted AVG free... because it's free and works fine!

Anyway it hasn't much to do since i installed ZoneAlarm :ok:

Panda is brilliant. In tests, (computeractive) Panda came out top of least cpu and ram usage tests. Before that I used to use Mcafee, and after the one year licence had run out, i was unable too update to a new licence for some reason. Internet explorer wouldn't have it (i hate microsoft, one of the reasons i use firefox). Then it became a pest, a popup got in the way of everything that reminded me to update the licence, even games! It is still doing it on my old pc now (it also has an intle cpu, another one of my hated companies, GO AMD). But my new pc came with 3 months of free panda platinum, so i gave it a try. Never even thought of mcafee when i updated my licence a while ago to Titanium! :w00t:

I use McAfee Security Suite. :D

It gives me everything I need - virus scan, pop-up blocker, firewall, spamkiller.

I like it, it works, and I wouldn't want to change now. :bleh:

Panda doesn't work that well.. Maybe it's because their updates really aren't the best, but a friend omf mine had it for a long time and was complaining about virus. We uninstalled panda, installed Norton and in the first scan it detected 27 virus that Panda didn't.

Bad part of Norton is that the quarantine is ****ed up. It simply won't delete the damn files, you have to do it by yourself.

McAfee is the best! It never lets any viruses in! I visit a lot of crack sites and viruses are designed by them mainly and McAfee detects the viruses, blocks script execution and so much it does, even cntrols spywares and adwares!

mm_pie 22-07-2005 10:41 AM

when you get annoyed with mcaffee, their customer support is pathetic and is even worse than norton. good 4 a while then it bcomes a pest!

vipin 22-07-2005 11:17 AM

Never thought of their customer support!

Although AVG is good but I have never tried it, I had a chance of installing it just for a day and later on my Windows crashed and then I had McAfee to install!

Danny252 22-07-2005 02:04 PM

mcaffee annoys me in one way.. its always got a new update... never needed customer support.

xoopx 22-07-2005 06:28 PM

I've never had a problem with McAfee, and I've never needed to use their customer support. :ok:
