I think they're decent and addictive (except the rubbish ones).

holyman9 17-07-2005 12:31 AM

meh... i am not really into things like business managment, planes, cars, etc... so most simulations tend to bore me after a bit, because a lot of times they are made for those who really know the field. Even games like The Sims, which is technically a simulation of life, got boring after a month or so.

efthimios 17-07-2005 12:55 AM

When I think of a simulation I only think of a simulation of a vehicle of some sort. Not "The Sims"or any "business simulation". I think of them more like puzzle or strategy games than simulations. With that in mind I voted that they are good.

a1s 17-07-2005 03:34 AM

one word - Herts of Iron. (well yes that's three words, but that would nopt be as efective).
I raely don't play car/plane sims, but that doesn't mean they suck, just that I suck at them.

You consider Hearts of Iron a simulation and not a strategy game?

Bob The Builder: Simulation games? Hey! Rock out with my caulk out!

well... it's on the border, but for me it's a matter of means and objectives- try playing as china (or poland).
and If you still think that is a strtegy, than you have a different defenition of strategy (which probably includes buisiness sims as well)

wow, you defenition do include them

Quintopotere 18-07-2005 12:07 PM

There are good sim games the most recent i liked was... don't remember the name... the one about building a space station and make life happy to your crews...

Anyway i think that good sim games could still be made!

Was it Startopia?

Yes it was!

I played only the demo... but i found it quite addictive!

Stroggy 19-07-2005 07:22 AM

Well I'm not sure what games you are referring to.
If you are talking about business simulators (or games of the sort) I have to say I like them but (while they are usually open-ended) they have little replay value once you've figured everything out.
if you are talking about airplanes and such... it differs, some get boring after a few days, some after a month and some are addictive (but eventually repetitive all the same) in the last case I am thinking of space-sims.

Frodo 19-07-2005 08:08 PM

What about going right back to the start.

Remember The Little Computer People? :max:

That game probably started the whole 'simulation' trend. :bleh:

:ok:

Danny252 19-07-2005 08:50 PM

what was the description.. that they were the reason computers 'behaved' the way they do? because there are LCPs in your PC? LOL...
Simulations rock.. I stink at them though..

Frodo 19-07-2005 08:59 PM

I had that game a few years ago on a 'Best Of C64 Games' (or something similar) pack for the pc. :ok:

I loved that game. :kosta:

Don't know what happened to it though. Can't find it now.

EDIT - Your LCP is very shy. Once he moves into his new 'house', he will spend time exploring his new surroundings.

It was BRILLIANT!

It depends what type. I prefer survival-type (Deus)

Aaaaand, what's wrong with Poland? :bleh: Huh? :D :D

The Fifth Horseman 05-01-2006 02:27 PM

Nothing wrong with Poland.

Stop giving our country a bad name by your necroposting, would you?

Javaguy 05-01-2006 03:20 PM

I love simulation games. Theyre so fun and addictive! Im rubbish at them, but im pretty bad at all games.

Kearnsy 08-01-2006 02:40 AM

I like them, they take a long time though.
Its hard to get the quick thrill, but you get the pride and intelectual stimulation at the end that makes it worth while.
So yeah I like them... in moderation.

Moppie 08-01-2006 09:58 AM

Usually they're kinda boring. Or if u played a reeely long time something screws up and the hole mess goes down. But that's just me...

bruno 09-01-2006 10:13 PM

For me simulation games are boring...... :tomato:

Abi79 10-01-2006 06:24 PM

*takes tomatoes and throws them at Little Fish :tai: :[img]http://www.abandonia.com/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /> *

If you tried a tycoon game it's like you tried them all, but the rest of the simulation games are sometimes very good. Look at F-22 Total Air War for instance.

Abi, now you've done it LOL
Now I have got to go ahead and install that game again, and have it eat away at my precious time :P

Heh, love that game. Accesible and extensive.

But at any rate, I voted way back, but apparantly I didn't post, so here goes:
I love simulation games. They are amongst the most immersive or rewarding there are.

kleine777 10-01-2006 07:35 PM

me too my favorite game genre

IHateSeph 11-01-2006 07:47 PM

I like all simulation games, cause they're also a bit educational in the aspect. No matter how complicated the subject of the game (If the game is made right), you can learn it well.

A few simulation games i've enjoyed playing have to be the Simcity series, The Sims 1-2, Civilization series, EWR (Wrestling promotion sim), and a bunch of others.

Javaguy 11-01-2006 08:28 PM

i like most of the tycoon games
thing is all tycoon games are dirt cheep and some are just awful
cruise tycoon is the worst game I have ever played while transport tycoon is the best!

oops wait, theyre strategy?
kindof a grey area?
well w/e I like racer which is free.. and the sims and a whole range of embarrasing titles

Wolf Thug 14-01-2006 02:07 PM

Strategy and rpg are my fav buut i also like a littl sim

Allen Drak 15-01-2006 03:29 PM

Birth of the Federation ist my best Game.
I like it to kick the AI in it's virtual behind.

Don Andy 15-01-2006 04:33 PM

I don't like realistic simulations, like Busines-Sims or Flight-sims and this stuff.

What I really like are sci-fi simulations, especially those about commanding a huge spaceship, like Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Battlecruiser 3000AD (or whatever its name was) and Rules of Engagement.

Or those that try to simulate something as if it was real, like flying a "real" UFO.

Nightkin 15-01-2006 04:53 PM

I dont like pure simulations, because they never have a story. Flying one mission after another is just boring.
Eurofighter Typhoon made it a little bit better with alternative WW3 scenario. After retreating back on Island you have to fly missions agaisnt the bad russians :D

LeD 15-01-2006 09:41 PM

All the Sim Cities are awesome. I had fun with Sim Farm at school on an OLD PC. Sim ant was awesome too, Sim earth wasn't too good. All Game genres are cool and most people don't like Simulations because it takes some brains and repition.

Eagle of Fire 15-01-2006 09:46 PM

Really depend of which kind of simulation you are talking about, so I didn't vote.

Oh, another one! I thought I was the only one loving this game LOL.

Allen Drak 16-01-2006 10:28 AM

For real the best Star Trek game ever.
The Borg are a hard Enemy. Once they show up, you've got to kill em by the first time, or you'll get a big Problem.

Spoonman 16-01-2006 11:13 AM

Simulation games as in cockpitview-realistic-flightsims and stuff are mostly not my forté. Stunt Island was nice though, at least that was fun.

As for the sim-<whatever> games: I like them, especially sim-ant for its novelty and SC2000 with the editing software included.

Bobbin Threadbare 16-01-2006 01:14 PM

They're only good if you use a joystick.

Not if it is a Sub sim.
Or a civilian plane sim.
Mouse works lovely with either of them.

LordHogFred 16-01-2006 06:41 PM

If you get a good sim game they're amazing games.
However, good sim games are few and far between.

Bieningana 17-01-2006 12:05 PM

I voted that they're boring couse I think that a 'simulation' genre is connected with games like "you-have-to-drive-very-carefully-couse-it-is-so-realistic". I think that we should separate tycoons and management games from simulation - those are the games i prefer...

Blizzard08 17-01-2006 12:31 PM

Well, I like all kinds of Simulation - The Sims series, Sim City, Flight Simulator, Ace Combat... Like Beningana, I junt don't like those reeeeeeealy realistic: your tire has popped because the temperature of the ground was above 60?C, and the heat managed...
But yah, simulation rox!!
