I own Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri which is , in my opionion, one of the best games ever made. I know that there exists the Addon Alien Crossfire. The Addon is very hard to find or only available for quite a lot of money at ebay.
My question: Is Alien Crossfire really worth so much money? Does it improve the original game a lot? |
I've heard of it too......never got it cause its expensive. I think the game is great the way it is.
|
You can download it from HOTU. Before anyone starts screaming warez, I'd like to say that I doubt it. If I'm not mistaken they had taken it down for quite a while because they were asked not to host it, but since it's back up I'm assuming they have permission.
|
TBH I'd not bother, although downloading it from HotU is worth the effort. It adds 2 poorly balanced alien factions and a few much better human factions, a few technologies and some landmarks - downloading worthwhie but not worth the effort of tracking it down to buy.
There's a patch to get it going on XP if you need it too. |

50p? argggg! I got my Alpha Centauri sitting in the back of a computer game store gathering dust. Got for a dirt cheap 4$USD. Still want crossfire, though and HOTU wont let me have it! Arg!

How do you even install bloody AC: AC?
I tried so many times, it just kicked my arse... |
I got it going in compatibility mode I think - there was definitely a problem with it for me but I can't remember it off-hand. You may need the patch for Windows XP too.
|
It was kicking my arse in Win 98.
The setup program didn't install it noCD, the NoCD didn't override it. Pissed me off... |
there is a XP patch on the firaxis homepage.
Try it and everything should work fine. |
Woo, just finished my Iron Man game yesterday with the consciousness - final score just over 8000, 401% MY2336 I think. It was on Talent difficulty though, but still not bad. I had a weird research path - got R4 before R3 and all the Graviton techs after Transcendent Thoughts were available. I like the way in the endgame you can be researching several of those per turn, even with plenty of Psych allocation to boost the score.

Three cheers for posting the exact same post in two forums! :D
I myself see no point in "Iron Man", it increases your score but I'm just too much in the habit of constant saving (even though I hardly ever go back to a save if anything goes wrong), plus AC doesn't like my computer muc hand so is rather prone to crashing. |
