Some time back I was e-mailed by one person to send him a certain abandoned game, and I have not heard from him any more after that - until about two months ago. Then he sent me some few stupid e-mails. I could tolerate and ignore that up to what happened this monday when I discovered no less then four chain-mails from him sent to me in last few days, including the petition about that dumb "bonsai kitten" site.

This is so terrible. A site that we were able to shut last year has returned. We have to try to shut it down again! (www.bonsaikitten.com) A Japanese man in New York breeds and sells kittens that are called BONSAI CATS. That would sound cute, if it
weren't kittens that were put in to little bottles after being given a muscle relaxant and then locked up for The rest of their lives! The cats are fed through a straw and have a small tube for their Faces. The skeleton of the cat will take on the form of the bottle as the kitten grows. The cats never get the opportunity to move. They are used as original and exclusive souvenirs. These are the latest trends in New York, China, Indonesia and New Zealand. If you think you can handle it, view www.bonsaikitten.com and have a look at the methods being used to put these little kittens into bottles.

This petition needs 500 names, so please put yours on it! Copy the text into a new email and put your name on the bottom, then send it to everyone you know!

(Long list of people signing follows)[/b]

Honestly, this s**t has quite peeved me off. It's one thing when you get a dumb spam every once in a while, and another when you get several from the same person in a very short period.

So I wrote him an e-mail to stop this.

<!--QuoteBegin-Subject: Cease that spam. (Re: Not for the faint hearted.)

Would you please cease sending me those chain-petitions? Getting three or four of them in last week was really unnerving. I don't know why exactly are you doing that, but I am slowly getting _really_ annoyed.

Sorry if it sounds to you like I'm heartless, but I have more then enough of my own problems.

As far as I know the whole "bonsai kitten" thing is a total bullshit.
What is very sad, however, is that some people believe in that and some
probably do actually attempt to recreate the idea.

If you hate that site so much, contact the ISP whose server hosts it and some appropriate organizations. A petition will not achieve anything but draw more people there.
[/quote]

As you can see, this was a rather calm and polite request.
And today he sent me a not-so-calm-nor-polite reply. The swear-words were not *'d out, either.

Why are people so f***ing hostile about a little letter???? If you don't
like it delete it, its much easier than writing a lengthy e-mail, its
amazing the amount of arseholes that can't just sign a name but can write
me
a letter telling me about thier feelings.

You f***ing arsehole.

What do you think about the whole thing? Did any of you have such experiences in the past? Do you think I should do something to shut him up?

Doubler 16-06-2005 01:08 PM

Just tell him that this kind of response is not appreciated, and then I'd say a simple block should do the trick.

Yobor 16-06-2005 01:08 PM

Change it so that all of his emails will become zapped by your spam filter.

Shunk Eat Enemy 16-06-2005 01:11 PM

easy soultion cant you add him to a ignore section or somin like on most IM progs
about the bonsai kittens my solution to there solution is :Titan: get medival on the sick tards who do this maybe :sniper: see in the world there plenty of people who need to die these group and bush and the spammer are all a good healty example

Indignus IV 16-06-2005 01:24 PM

Call me sick and perverted, but, being a scientist, I would like to see those kitties (if they exist). However, I would NEVER do that to a real cat. Nobody get me wrong. It just sounds like an interesting process, even though I know it is very sick.

About the spam emails: I say just sign it, for goodness sake. You could even put on a fake name.

Reup 16-06-2005 01:36 PM

Just send a mail about him to abuse@hisprovider
They'll warn him soon enough. He's not only sending you spam, he's also harassing you. Should be reason enough to close down his account. Make sure you inlcude his rants as well! :ok:

btw. you can find out who his provider is by checking the headers of the mail! (in case you're not certain)

Shunk Eat Enemy 16-06-2005 01:37 PM

OOOOH i fell like a happy school girl :w00t: when i see jerks finally get theres like this spammer just let us know the outcome

troop18546 16-06-2005 02:51 PM

How can anyone be so annoying?.. :eeeeeh:
Damn...

DeathDude 16-06-2005 03:22 PM

Yeah it's terrible when they spam your inbox and then when you try to point it out to them and then they rant right back at you, but yeah if you can try to find out the isp's email address and send a copy of the email to them, hopefully that will shut him down.

Indignus IV 16-06-2005 03:33 PM

Kill tha spammers! :D

Doubler 16-06-2005 03:39 PM

Well, the e-mail spammers.
I kind of like some of the forum spammers

Sebatianos 16-06-2005 04:32 PM

Well I did something different...
There's a mail (I can send it to you) that thanks everyone for ruenind your life, because you can't sleep - feeling guilty for the little girl sufficating for the 1.455.643.346th time in a hospital somewhere... and so on...

Another time I started a chainmail against the guy sending it:
Please sign this petition to stop XY sending these mails, because he's consuming so much electricity 789.903 trees died because of polution and 523 people died, because he took the power supply neede for their life support system.
Then added many random names as signitures!

I like to have my fun with people (other methods were worse, so I won't tell them).

taikara 16-06-2005 06:15 PM

I neither sign nor reply. I ignore, and send to my junkmail filter.

If someone has something important to say, then I guess it's just too bad if I miss it, if they were inconsiderate enough to send me silly forwards in the first place. :D

I do the same... ignoring it's the only way!

I tried in the past to convince all my friends (expecially the girls that seem to appreciate too much these chain mails...) to ignore the spam... but with really poor result... :tomato:

I'd do that to someone who actually intended to do to a cat.

Signing wouldn't solve much. There'll always be more and more chain petitions, and people have no idea if you already signed so they'll keep sending them.

2 months ago, I had to ignore a friend's email and have a serious chat with her about this because she kept sending me perfectly normal emails of jokes, images, whatever.. But in the end there was always something like: "If you do not send this to 15 people, you'll have bad luck for the next 3 years. Send to 20 people and you have your biggest wish coming true in the next 2 days, 25 people... (etc etc)".

Needless to say, I NEVER forward any chain message, not even those mentioned above.

Indignus IV 16-06-2005 06:42 PM

I don't intend to do that to a cat at all. I'm just a bit interested as to how they keep the cat alive in that jar.

Peace, Man!

My dad and my aunt are particularly fond of them.... :D

Into the junkmail box they go, along with the rest of the spammers

Tulac 16-06-2005 07:59 PM

I tend to ignore them, although it's catchy what sebatianos did :D

Shunk Eat Enemy 17-06-2005 12:54 AM

do what i do, not use or have a e mail account  its pure genius

Reup 17-06-2005 07:27 AM

Genius you call it... electronically handicapped I would call it, my young padawan.
[Sings a bit off-key] To be without my email, would be impossible to do... cause in this world of wi-hi-de web, my email gets me through[/singing]

But seriously... gmail has built-in spam filter and for Outlook I'd recommend SpamBayes which uses a nice self-learing Bayesian net to filter you spam...

In reality, this is one big scam. Things that are described on that site are medically impossible.

Havell 17-06-2005 11:59 AM

The site's owner admitted it was a hoax, he even revealed the resource pics he used for making the pictures of the cats in jars. Also, why would anyone start a website about a business and not include contact details?

There's going to be a heck of a lot of bad luck going around when all those replies that haven't been sent get checked up on - I'm worried. In fact, the human race will probably becom extinct as a result of all the failed relationships caused by not sending on chain emails. They're mostly sent by 15-to-25-year-olds I reckon, so we should start seeing the impact in 5 or 10 years I reckon. Scary.

DeathDude 19-06-2005 10:15 PM

Heh yeah I still get those odd emails from time to time from friends and it's funny how I notice that most people still send it off anyway, LOL but yeah Beef that's a good point if it really were like that LOL.

TheChosen 21-06-2005 10:31 AM

Spamming IS annoying.

I was on a holiday for a month. When i came back i checked my e-mail. I had over 200 ads and offers(something about dog food,credit cards,screen savers,cheap games).

:sniper: spammer

troop18546 21-06-2005 03:09 PM

Well, there is a thing called spam-protection, so using DAT on these MF+ spammers should be apropriate...
