You just did a google for a game, even browsed the contents of all major gaming sites, including Abandonia.com and find out that you have a game, which is still unknown to many.
Now, would you be kind enough to name that game in this thread. |
I don't think I have any particularly obscure ones. Possibly X2:the threat is the most. Bought the last one available in the country about 9 months ago, still haven't played it because I need to upgrade my puter.
|
hmmm. probably Battle Isle: The Andosia War, Dogs of War, Swiv 3D or Rollcage 1 and 2 would be mine, but I'd say none of them were very obscure.
|
Psychotron was one of those FMV games that were popular a few years ago. Never heard it mentioned anywhere.
Dragon Lore was a Myst type game where you completed puzzles etc, trying to gain favour from a council. With enough popularity you'd gain knighthood or something like that. |
The most obscure game I can remember playing was called Downunder Dan. It was shareware and not the most rivetting, for me, anyway. I sort of recall this sterotypical Aussie bloke, piloting a little plane that of course has engine failure and he parachutes to safety.
|
I'd have to say that the most obscure game I own, is probably Spaceward Ho!, which also happens to be the worst game I've ever paid full price for. I still get angry when I think about it, although it's about 10 years ago.
|
I've got some original Merit Studios/Software games. They all suck, and most of them are quite unknown.
Operation Combat, a simple, uninspiring strategy game. The Machines, a rather lame top-down shooter. A bit like Alien Breed or Threat, but worse. Isle of the Dead, the worst first-person shooter ever made. Fortunately there are no screenshots or downloads anywhere as far as I can see, but MobyGames has some box shots and they include some hideous screenies. Frankenstein, a dull platformer. |
wendymaree: You are absolutely right about "The Adventures of Downunder Don" and I agree that its one of the most underated and obscure title to many and also to me, until I recently hunted it down. It is from Guildsoft Limited, which is an Australian software house. Do you know that they also released another obscure title called The Adventures of Busy Billy?
Kevin_AU: Psychotron is realy hard to find game, but not obscure. I already reviewed it HERE. Timpsi: If a game is at HotU then its not obscure. And I have a box of Isle of the Dead(I wasn't in my senses when I picked it from a bargain bin). However, that Frankenstein(platformer) seems like a real underdog - if you have it, can you provide some more details? :ok: X2:the threat is obscure (adding it now in my games_to_hunt.txt file) :ok: |
Beerworm - A worm game where you should eat (or drink!!) beer. Pretty obscure!
|
I Was An Atomic Mutant is probably the most obscure game I own. :D And it's fun. :D
You can choose between four different characters (She-Beast, The Brain from Beyond Infinity, The Invader from Dimension X, can't remember the fourth name, it's a godzilla kind of guy) and then wreak havoc in American cities in a b-movie kind of way. :D |
Quote:
|
Yeah same here, I've seen that game quite a bit on the web and through gaming mags.
|
Quote:
And I'm truly sorry to hear you've also purchased Isle of the Dead, but I'm sure you also agree that it is also damn obscure. :P Frankenstein is just a dull platformer. You control Egor, the faithful servant of baron Frankenstein ("with qualifications in total stupidity and basic incompentence" says the manual) and the idea is to collect raw materials for the barons experiments. It's a clumsy, boring platformer. |
Time Elapse - the game is called something like this. I played it. It good combination of adventure/puzzle (because you can't talk to anybody).
Rise of the robots - this game is predcestor of mortal kombat. It's good, but also very difficult. |
Retribution - A semi space simulator not even close to the standards of Wing Commander, X-wing etc.
|
The most obscure game that I have for real is probably either Space Station: Silicon Valley or Body Harvest, two grossly underrated N64 games by DMA design (who also made Lemmings and GTA).
On PC... realMYST is fairly obscure, and certainly very hard to come by here in the UK. Then there are games like The Last Express and Toonstruck which are hard to find now. Of course, if we count games I that weren't obtained through strictly legal methods, then the list gets more impressive. On PS1, I have the little known forerunner to Nippon Ichi's trilogy of sublime PS2 Strat RPGs, Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, and an RPG/dating hybrid in which you play a vampire who has to seduce a mortal girl with a certain aura and suck her blood called Imadoki No Vampire: Bloody Bride (only released in Japan, but I got a translation patch) Most obscure PC game I've downloaded is probably The Adventures of Lomax the Lemming. Damn hard to find, that one was. |
Try "Skeleton Warriors", a cheap and lame PS game. LOL
The game is absolutely horrible. |
Dunno if it's obscure, but I can't seem to find any trace of it anymore. Crusaders of Might and Magic? Heard it was horrible as SHEEIT though.
|
Koala Lumpur: Journey to the Edge is an adventure game about a koala and a VERY foul mouthed dingo. I doubt many have heard of it at all.
|
:w00t: OMG I want that!!! Is it abandonware?
|
I have a feeling I saw that Koala thing for download a couple of days ago. Wish I could remember where...
|
I actually dunno if it is abw. But its too big for the site. Its almost 400 MBs.
|
The most obscure game I have on my computer is called "Ant". It's basically a card game of two ant colonies fighting each other. The aim of the goal is to either destroy the opponent castle or build a tall castle of 100 points.
Pretty fun for a timewaster game... But don't ask me where I got it! Edit: Quote:
If you like Spaceward Ho! you should try to get Stars!. |
Two words for you : Dog Day. Great game but didn't become famous because it was too obscure.
|
I would have to say "Paris CITY 2000". Have never seen it anywhere for sale or download. Haven't yet played it because it is still sealed in the box I got it in :) |
how about mortar mayhem???? its a bit like scorched earth. or mud slinger for that matter. mebbe deadlock 2?
|

by the way, I am compiling a database here of all the titles mentioned in this thread and going to do a research on them. |

Mmmm.... titles....
Anyone play demon stalkers much? BTW, the review on HOTU is wrong. Each player (up to two), controls one of two characters. There is no party of four. What about zeliard? Yes I actually bought that game. I like it, so that made it ok. And what about shadow sorcerer? It looked good at the time when I bought it, (it was DnD, goldbox was fantasic), but I didn't really play it much. |
My uncle brought me back a game when he went to the US, unfortunately it was for Apple and so I never played it, but it was called Shufflepuck Cafe.
It had a whole buch of weird alien misfits on the box and they were in this cafe, playing Shufflepuck! |
Shuffle Puck Cafe? The name does ring a bell - Oh yeah, I remember playing an adventure game called Panic in the Park, and Shuffle Puck was one of the arcades you need to play and win to get golden coins to feed the Oracle. The game was about saving a theme park ordered by the court to closed down due to some lost will. However this particular Shuffle Puck arcade had a bug and no patch was ever released to fix it, until years later someone found a hex edit trick to edit the game score in the savegame file and let the game assume that you have played and won the Shuffle Puck arcade.
By the way, Panic in the Park is an obscure game by itself as per GtG(Google the Great) |
I think it was Battletech: Crescent Hawks Revenge. You still can find some stuff around on it - but it's really, really obscure... sad, cause it was the herald of a genre that would later dominate a large part of the gaming market, leading to many, many well known games. It was... the first RTS.
|
Well, there's Last Of The Eichhoff here that I can remember off the top of my head, and alot of fan-made AGI games, like Tonight The Shrieking Corpses Bleed and Caitlyn's Destiny, which're awesome games, but not well-known. (There's also some huge crap, like Naturette - An 8-year old girl losing her clothes each time she falls into some warp-hole? and other games that're absolutely awesome, and have a well-earned reputation, like Enclosure)
|

[/b][/quote] Nice of you to offer, but unfortunately I have already been offered something for it ( it is a mutual friend of ours, so you just might end up with it anyways...or at least a copy of it). |
Double Blocks, one of the better tetris clones out there, which sadly no longer works on any computer in my house even under dosbox :(
|
*slaps head* How could I forget? Anything made by Soleau Software :ok:
|
How bout Mortar Mayhem???? Or Deadlock 2 by accolade. Mebbe even Evil Hans? Oh have you played Chakkravyuh???? Its an absolute pain in the neck
|
I actually have Deadlock I :D Cool game, but indeed not that easy to find anything 'bout.
|
Another World was one of the most obscure yet fascinating games I've ever played. I've always wondered if they made a PC port for the sequel.
|
Quote:
I GOTTA have that :D |

A game called "Where's Fat Lou?". I received it for review in a game magazine about ten years ago. It was from Italy. The game was remarkably primitive by any standards of the time: nine blocks you could select, each with a very boring, linear mini-game that ended quickly. Translations were awful. The company that imported the title actually dropped it after getting critical reactions from reviewers.
|
The Fortress of Dr Radiaki is quite obscure in my opinion, even though it returned a few results on google. An average FPS with good humor and cutscenes that made it worthwhile.
Another Frankenstein game: Frankenstein: Through the eyes of the monster. I only saw an ad of it. Tim Curry played Dr Frankenstein. That man is so diverse. |
The Kroz games?
Y'know they're some of Apogee's first games, great fun. The best Soleau game is Larry Loader, or Larry the Loader or something like that. |
I'm way off my league here. The most obscure game I´ve ever played was Red Storm Rising. I'd guess its not obscure at all, considering its about a Tom Clancy book. But I never met anyone who ever played it besides me. I do regret loosing that single 3.5" disk. I enjoyed playing that game alot.
|
The C.H.A.O.S. continuum, (by Creative Multimedia) and Crusade in Space: The Zardula Incursion (Essex Interactive MEdia).
Both games are for windows and both suck big time!!! |
Storm Master and Metal Mutant by Silmarils should be quite obscure. They're also quite good, that's why I'm trying to find enough material to review MM after putting up SM.
Passengers of the Wind could be another obscure one. |
I'd have to say The Neverhood, which is still a fairly well know game. ...actually, "well known" is much too strong, known of suits it better.
|
Definately Septerra Core. I adore this game and seemingly no one knows about it.
|
Played it. Yeah its pretty obscure though. never did find a copy for myself..... another obscure game is Double score. It was released by a garage dev team . my bro managed to get his hands on a copy. Tho must have been easier since he lives in america... Sheeeesh. whadda hell am i doin here neways?
|
Roboforge is probably the most obscure one that I own (kind of) at the moment. It's not all that great, really. The idea is wonderful but execution is lacking.
Another obscure one is Survival Crisis Z. Great, great game with loads of fun packed into it! |
define obscure, not that I don't know what it means, but I think there could be more than one definition and I just wanna be sure what you mean by obscure.
|
Quote:
Obscure: Unusual, hard-to-find or not widely-known, as opposed to common and well-known. |
Goblins (I think thats what its called)
Thats not hard to find but its pretty damn unusual... LOL |

Hello obscurity collectors :)
I seek through my collection and found some obscurity and imo rare titles: Mutation Of Johnny Burger: Unfortunately this game was realeased only in Slovak and German language. The publisher came from Slovak republic and that's same with my version ;) Mutation of J.B. - Review The Jungle Book: The Legend Of Mowgli: Interactive edutainment adventure game telling the well known story. Game description Versailles 1685: I have special DVD boxed version having game production highlights video as a special bonus. Playing Games Interactive - Description Alien Logic: Old Adventure/RPG CD-ROM version published by SSI. MobyGames - description Isle Of The Dead: Horrible game but surely it's obscurity :D MobyGames - description Tlon: A Misty Story: Less known adventure game, produced by English-Slovak team. GraveDigger's - A-for-Adventure page ;) And that's all for today /wallymian :bye: |
I've got Alien Logic, though never really played it.

The most obscure game that i still own is: John Sinclair Evil attacks..
it's the afaik only game for the Ghost Hunter Sequel |
I used to have this game but lost it. It was a really good C%C-esque game with a twist, you could 'jump' inside one of your units instead of using the RTS view (although give no orders, just fight).
It was called Machines. It was really good, go 80% from most PC gaming mags, but no-one bought it. Shame really, even the AI was quite good. |
Quote:
I played this one when I was a bit younger and I liked it, duh but Quadrax was better(which noone knows... :bleh: ) |

Rent-A-Hero
Not such a good adventure. |
the fury. still got the spectrum original somewhere.
|
Probably my original copies of Princessmaker II and Balor of the Evil Eye, since the plug was pulled on both of these pretty quickly after release.
But I've got a third game whose name escapes me, in which you raised dragons to send against villages while searching for portions of a missing amulet. It also had roughly 30 alchemy ingredients, along with 4 methods of working ingredients, plus low and high temperatures. I loved the thing, although the two AI-driven opponents were not very good. That British title didn't even make it out the door in the US, since the distributor went bankrupt before its release. (I got my copy from the distributor in advance for review.) It's here, somewhere, but I don't recall where. |
I would say: Feeble Files, at least if obscure has the same meaning as rare... (it's rare in Sweden at least.)

After doing some research on this game, I have found out that this is most likely one of the rarest games ever produced. The company that made the game (Aditus) was based in my country, Canada. More specifically Montreal, Canada. The game was never mass produced as its sister game (London C.I.T.Y) was due to financial troubles the company was having at the time. The company was sold and the game shelved never to see the light of day. Before the sale of the company, 50 copies of the game were pressed and boxed, and sent out to various retailers in Canada and the US as a promotion. How many still exist ? Who knows. Probably not many. After having done my research on the game (and actually contacting an ex-employee of Aditus who still resides in Montreal), I am unsure of what I should do with the game. I was going to sell it to a friend, but I quickly cancelled that deal when I found out about the rarety of the game. I think most likely it will end up on E-Bay. |
Well, here's, an idea: open the box, play it, review it and upload it for the rest of us here at Abandonia!!! :D :D :D

Sounds fun though, is it abandoned? |
No. Still sold for around 30 bucks.

i think one of the most obscure games is the harvester.. it is VERY brutal and filthy adventure it was made in 1996 and it was quicly withdrawn from the stores for being too gory and insane

Put it on Abandonia :D (the shareware version)
|
Thanks for that. My atheist-ninjas have been dispatched.
Oh also I seem to be a pimp. :pimp:   :rifle: :Jesus: ¬ Ow... my brains... *edit* - No shareware on Abandonia, fool! |
Don't know if "homemade" games and share-/freeware should be included, though...
One of the most obscure games I ever played was "Mr. Bones" on Sega Saturn. You played a skeleton in many different mini-games, but that game was just cool as sh*t... playing "senso"-guitar before a bunch of hard-rockin' skeletons is one Heavy-Metal-fantasy come trve... :D "Superhero League of Hoboken" is another one (yeah, it's on the site, but I never really hard many people talk about THIS one... :D )... and it fits BOTH descriptions of "obscurity"... :D Then there's "The Persian Gulf Inferno"... used to play that on a friend's Amiga 500 years ago a lot, but when trying to get it as an emu-rom years later I wasn't able to find it anywhere... The game itself is not really bizarre, just not widely known, as it seems. I could list hundreds of old C64-games probably NOBODY here would've ever heard of, but they're beyond competition anyway ;) |
does the unnoffical mission disk "Command Companion" for Command And Conquer : Tiberian Dawn (you know...the old DOS one) count?

Lost Legends - The Prophet for amiga
Splatterhouse for PC Harvester Zektor Lunicus for PC (this is probably the most obscure between these) These are very obscure. |
Pumpkinhead.....the game based on the "hit" movie. My cousin and I found this for a dollar in a bargain bin in some used computer game store. The guy looked relieved we bought it. We almost got our moneys worth....almost.
I have to say though...Captain Bible has to take the cake. I looked at the link and had to wince. I wonder how many people actually paid to order the full version..not on this site mind ya...but in the universe. |
Pfft... there has to be a market for religious games somewhere.
Are you hearing us Neptune? Also, I think that I still reign unbeaten with Machines. Made by Acclaim, but no-one else has ever heard of it. It even got good reviews. |
