Thank you to everyone who does this poll.
|
I chose Dune II, but you are WRONG in saying that it is the first RTS game. This title goes to Battletech: Crescent Hawks Revenge, in which Westwood had their hand as well.
|
Well, then it's the second
|
I like Dune 2000 more than the original Dune II. Better graphics than the original, while Emperor - Battle for Dune was a weak game, as I heard.
|
I must say, I did like Dune 2000
|
well ive only played dune and dune II. i think i prefer dune because i suck at dune 2 LOL.
also dune has really great adlib music and 'feels' a lot more like a game about dune |
I actually think that Emperor: Battle for Dune is the best, I just got it in the mail, discontinued you know.
|
I liked the movie but I never liked the games
|
Uhhhh, they all pretty much rape the real story.. The most promising one was a French space MMORPG that followed the books closely but the company went under. Dune 2000 was fun but was basically a skin pack for Red Alert :\
|
Dune II rulezs, and that says it all ;) :Titan:
|
Close call for me between the first 2, because they both were something very original when they first came out. I was equally fascinated by both of them. :)
Btw, has anyone here read the books, from beginning to the end? I think I stopped in the middle of book 5 or 6, they had some long and boring passages inbetween and I couldn't force myself to read on any further :/ |
I have read all the books, the prequels, and the originals! But my favorite was the original Dune Book.

I don't really know how to chose. they are all very different. |
For me:
Dune 1 |
Would you believe I havn't played any of the dune games... I think I've been deprived. I'm a big fan of the Weswood RTS games, and have played pretty much all of them, but I have missed out on playing any other RTS games. :(
|
Dune II till Emperor:Battle for dune are westwood game
|
dune 1,
its not a rpg as such id say its a strategy/adventure game. |

Dune II for me, hands down.
I have enjoyed all of the Dune titles, but the hours spent playing Dune II are the most memorable. Also, being one of the first early RTS games made it a groundbreaking release. |
I think the best ones are dune 1, 2, and Emperor!
|
I'd hafta go with the original. Man, was that a fun game! :Brain:
|
i added my vote at dune2 .. thats the one i remember the best .. ohhh man that was times .. playing it for several hours through the night
|
I had a lot of fun playing Emperor: Battle for Dune
I actually had a computer that could run it smoothly. Plus it was also one of the last RTS games with FMVs and loads of 3d backgrounds that actually looked good! |
Yeah, i loved playing emperor deep into the night.
|
I voted Dune 1, probably because it is newest to me. Downloaded it from this site a couple weeks ago. I probably spent more time playing and enjoying Dune 2.
Never really liked dune2000. Seemed to be too close to dune 2, only enhanced graphics for me. Don't know the last two. |
Dune 2 got my vote! I agree with Shortie completely!
Just the feeling when i remember death's hand, sardaukars and those useful carryalls! Man, those were good times.. sigh ... :( |
I love all of them!!!! (Except for Frank Herbert's one...he is not well done) :kosta:
|
I loved Dune 2000. In fact I'm playing it at the moment. :rifle:
I'm on mission 7 playing as the Atreides, my favorite house. I love their Sonic Tanks. I also like the Harkonen Devistator (is that the right spelling???) and I like playing them as well. Later on in the game I always like to take over an Atreides Heavy Factory so I can have Sonic Tanks as well. I never liked playing the Ordos. To me they are a fairly campy House, and I was never impressed with their Deviator. A few years back I was able to download a sound file extractor for the game. I now have some of the sounds as Windows sounds. The same program would allow you to insert your own sounds. So instead of the Fremmen saying, "It is done", I tried to get them to say, "I'll bury those cockaroaches", from Tony Montana of Scarface. But unfortunately I could never get it to work properly. It always came out sounding at a speed of 500 miles an hour, and you couldn't make sense of what was being said. I also downloaded an editor to edit your vehicles, buildings, troops etc. I was able to make the Sonic Tanks move from the bottom to the top of the map in just a few seconds. I could also make them invincible, as well as fire as fast as a machine gun. The things I used to do when I was bored. :D Anyone else got a favorite weapon??? Regards, DarkMatter |
I've played the old adventure game a bit (Dune 1?), Dune 2 and Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune. And Emperor was by far my favorite. I don't know why, but it really clicked with me. It was a straight forward RTS game, but I thought it captured the Dune atmosphere well, or as well as a strategy game could.
|
Personally, I like the first Dune much better than these other ones, merely because I think there are many better old strategy games than Dune 2, but hey, that's just me. The first Dune was such a refreshing experience for me that I would like to recommend it to anyone who would like to try a crossbreed between an RPG and a first person strategy.
Cheers! |
For me it was Dune 1.
The graphics, the music, the mood.... one incredible game... Played the disk version first, after that the CD version.... both are fantastic. Dune 2 is also good, but a very different game. L8r! |
Dune 2 is probably more important in terms of effects on gaming etc, but the first one seems more playable now - it's quite different from anything else around.
|
it's nearly impossible for me to compare the first two games; both are classics in their own right and both are so different it's just something totally different playing dune 1 and dune 2. i haven't played 'frank herbert's dune', but still, dune 1 is the one i would return to most probably. i loved it when i was small, even though i've never finished it...

This game is unique...I'm waiting a great remake.. |
I choose Emperor: Battle for Dune because it was the only one I've played. A very good game but I'll play the oldies, maybe they are better...
|
as for me never finishing it, it might be because i was watching my brother playing it when we were small; he finished it several times. so i know the plot and everything. maybe i'll finish it myself some other time though, it's not a bad idea :)
RRX2, when you'll be getting the oldies, just remember that dune 2000 is a remake of dune 2, so it should be more or less the same thing that looks up to date with the games in 1998, when it was released. maybe there are differences, but i haven't played 2000 enough to know, and it's a long time ago too :) |
