Ever been so addicted to an online game that you have plaeyd it for 4 days with little sleep? I have/ am right now. I got FFXI for xmas and I am so addicted LOL. I play it for long hours. Total time is like 1 day and 14 H hehe. Already lvl 8 1/2 BLM. Damn Orcish Grapplers and Goblin thugs/weavers keep killin me. Damn lvl downs =\ Meh any way back to topic.
|
aye, I know the feeling.
It gets wierd when you are addicted for several years on one game though (I have this with the dungeoncrawl Mordor) :sneaky: |
I am worried about my school work if this keeps up LOL. Gotta get to work on that game upload too.
|
Yeah, I have been addicted to Diablo II for longer time before, since October 2003 already. Not really anymore now, but I spent many hours on it back then...
|
Had same problem when i played Dark age of camelot, at a time, since it took to much game time to be good in that game. So i stopped.
Hope WOW isnt that way, but time will tell. |
i was addicted to runescape for a whole year but thx to abandonia im thinking of quitting members!!! thanks abandonia!

a gamer is a guy who is pasionate about games.
|
i was a diablo 2 addict for 3 years (yes, 3 years) until about 3 months ago
|
After playing many games for many years it's hard to get addicted again. You become a game master, but you sadly and regretably loose some of your passion for games. I was addicted to Flight Simulator 98. However, by definition addiction is when you need something very badly. Addiction is not necessarly playing a game a lot. I was more addicted (and still am) to the computer in general than any game in particular.
|
yea me too. I can't stand 5 min without my computer. Its the reason why my marks are low, I don't do hw due pc.
|
Well i get addicted for 2 or 3 weeks - first it all begins with commandos, then it was tr1 then THPS2 then commandos 2, and finaly Diablo for 3 months
|
Civ 2 fanatic here. :sneaky:
After so many years, still playing it. :D |

I`m about addictied to Enemey Territory for about" 18 MONTHS now..
and still loving it  |
i see no-one has beaten my time of addiction to a game (3 years :D)

The only thoroughly addicting game is reallife. Once you get into it, see how much variety and depth it has to offer, nothing on a computer can remotely come close. :D
|
Well RCT isn't an online game but I am addicted. And with RCT 3 on it's way to my pc my addiction will be renewed. At the moment I am addcited to Princess maker 2.
|
I'm not addicted to a game at the moment.
I'm addicted to 2!!! Rome:Total War and BF 1942 WWII Anthology boom... |
Just got fable for xbox and i was addicted to it untill i beat it. Fairly short game for an rpg, only like 12 hours or so... kinda dissapointing
|

I used to play Civ1 on my Amiga 4 hrs / day for 4 years... then i got a PC, and bought Civ2... same storry...
Now it's Civ3 roling ;) 1 yr and counting! |

Battlefield 1942 or any Battlefield game is over. It may as well be abandoned. Go play Star Wars Battlefront, alot better than any Battlefield game. I got it for christmas and am addicted although I don't play online. |
battlefront is really laggy online (xbox version anyway) but at the mo im addicted to halo 2 online (thorugh xbconnect :D)
|
How do you connect to internet with xbox. Do you just get a modem and connect it to the xbox?
|
ummm... check the XBConnect Website for the software to play system link games over the net and the possible network setups are here
|
Maybe I'm addicted to Computers ...
|
at present alien crossifre from alpha Centauri (though a sequel with much better AI would be good) i hear firaxas games are working on a civ 4 - mouth waters !!!!!
The old favourite colonization and its open source sequel coltoo (which is slow moving) And im still trying to get a hold of 1602 AD but for some reason on ebay people keep buying it for $50 AUS (i could find it in stores if i could for $10) they keep outbidding me but if they want to pay that much so be it. |
The only game i've been addicted too, like really addicted too was Counter-strike that game is soooo goood :sneaky:
I don't know what it is but when you play it online with friends and get good at it its just seriously addictive and fun! I'd still be playing it if my pc could take 1.6 but it can't so  Another game i got addicted to was Ragnarok Online which is a fun game but sucks due to its Pay 2 Play feature. |
I've been "addicted" to several games in my gamer life, and those addictions never stopped. Meaning that I always love to play again all those gems like Xcom, Civilization, Colonization, MOO, etc.
There is really too many to have a real list here... But I bet you know about what I am talking about. :) My latest addiction was for an online game named Laser Squad Nemesis from the creators of Ufo: Ennemy Unknown. However, the forum and the community of the game was about half of the whole game pleasant experience and when a group of punks named the "Wooters" began to create mischief on the forum my interest began to shrink drastically until I did not even want to play again. I hate leet talk even more since. |

Thanks for bringing me the idea! I'll install my startcraft today and start playing it again! :Brain: |
played cs:s yet? really fun :D
|
It is fun, even though everyone just goes around shooting all the barrels and watching them fall over.
|
It's fun, if you have a monster computer to handle hl2.
I've ordered an Athlon 64 3400+ processor because it handles Hl2 better. That and an Ati radeon x800pro 256mb to go with it. Should make a killer combination! |
back in 93 i had zelda links awakening on original gameboy, and i spent so much time playing it i would get daytime flashbacks of gameplay. it was like my brain was adjusting to reality being a gameboy screen LOL.
online games ive been into waaay too much (i dont play multiplayer anymore) blood (played on mplayer) counter-strike frontline force vampire slayer enemy territory |
I remeber bein hooked on Harvest Moon... gottta love farmin crops!
|
I loved that one too. Too bad I could not get a hand of the Playstation version. LOL
|
i am sort of addicted to freelancer and morrowind. but my devotion has
decreased due to technical problems with my pc. that damn machine has slowed down for some unknown reasons, so i will have to reinstall the whole system and maybe buy a new graphic-card in order to enjoy my "sweethearts" again to the fullest! :sneaky: |
World of Warcraft....
'nuff said. |
i forgot to mention a few games on playstation which kept me amazed for
quite awhile back then: silent hill, final fantasy 7 and metal gear solid. especially the first one, silent hill, was very consuming. i used to play it with a friend of mine who was living in a flat together with some other guys. the two of us were regularly lying on the floor in front of the television and had all the lights dimmed down while playing SH. often, some visiting pals came in, wondering about the strange atmosphere and asking about what we're playing - but they seldomly received an answer. we were that concentrated of what's going on on the screen that we've totally lost our awareness of the surroundings. we didn't react or stopped playing until our other friends teared open the window blinds in order to let sunlight in because the became a little pissed off from sitting in darkness the whole day watching us killing strange monsters and stuff... |
|
Quote:
|
Not a multiplayer game but, the legend of zelda: ocarina of time. :D
|
Okay, for non-multiplayeer, Final Fantasy 7 takes the cake. Just thinking about all of the repetitious leveling up gives me a headache now
Who takes the time to morph things into Power Sources anyway? I mean, c'mon... |
Silent Hill  .... another one of my all time favs. Love the dep story. And the screwed up monsters. It is sooo detailed!.
<SPOILERS> For example, Silent Hill 2. The monsters were all images of James evil doing, killing his wife (A mercy killing cause she was terrably sick). The first m,onsters that walk around and make the shrick noise reprosent a woman in a straite jacket, Mary (his wife) was in a hospital. Pyramid Head reprasents James reacting the murdur James did (thats why he always kill Maria.) He is James's executionar. The doorman monster is part of Angela's "punishment". Her father sexualy abused her. If you look closely the doorman is 2 people on top of each other uhh wiggling (can't find the word)? Can't remeber the other things cause I havn't played this game in such along time... It was fun discussing these in Silent Hill Forums. |
Quote:
I was addicted to Ages of Empires and i've been addicted to Counter Strike since i first started playing it. |
Sure have, but I'm starting to pick up the warning signals, like when all I see when I close my eyes are screenshots of that particular game and when I feign sickness to cancel plans friends because I simply CANNOT STOP PLAYING
|
This is beginning to be unhealthy for you... I suggest you reduce your gaming habits a little bit.
The worse part is cancelling plans and feigning sickness only to play games... If you do that often people will stop trusting you and you will lose friends who might not be there forever... Same thing can't be said about games. |
I had a serious addiction to Everquest (fondly known as Evercrack), and minor addictions to The Realm, and UO. I can't touch online games now, I'm afraid of them, even though I've been really curious about a few of the recent ones.
|
165 hours thats the time it took me to finish Final FantasyX the FIRST time
and i finished it three times if i studied that much i d probably be in Harvard now |
Yeah online mmorpg by far have been the most addicting of any game for me. That need to just get one more level or get that item, or even worse now that i think about it, to raise your craft level.
Spent 1 year with the original Everquest when it came out. Spent about 4 months with Asherons Call 1 Spent about 2 years total with Dark Ages of Camelot, leveling up many 50's levels and then did those Master Trials with the Atlantis expansion, took a break to play Anarchy Online for about 8 months...got up to 160+ level and quit. Finally did Final Fantasy 11 for about a 6 months. Got the PC version on launch Fall of 2003. On a daily basis, that game sucked so much time for me that around march/april I just knew it wasn't healthy for me anymore to play these games, although I enjoying them immensely. I loved playing with Japanese players so I could improve my Japanese. I was one of the first US players to reach 60+ level and made some good quality friends from Europe, US and asia. I do miss the community and its addicting as hell, but for the past year I've just stuck to singleplayer PC & console games, an occassional LAN party and finding cool abandonware. I still get my gaming fix, but now I've got much more time to do other things. Its surprising how much stuff I can actually accomplish now in my spare time. |
Enemy Territory..
Already playing for more then 1.5 years now :bleh: |

Been there, done that.
You should listen to experience. |
haha no, I really don't need to. It was a joke. get it? I have a very active social life and don't have other serious addictions than olives and lager
|
ooo yeeeahhh
Sonic (ALL!) Counter Strike Gabriel Knight X-Wing Soul Reaver |
I was addicted to Super Mario World on the GameBoy for a while. Beat it about fifteen times in a row before I got bored with it.
I think I don't have the attention span to become addicted to a game. I get bored, I play something else, I get bored, I play something else, I get bored, rinse and repeat ad nauseum, etcetera, ad infinitum. Besides, I work at home. I have nothing else to do but play games :) |
I was addicted to Dark Age of Camelot for ages, until Trials of Atlantis came out. At that point my interest started to wane, as it took insane amounts of time and people to succeed, and the expansion added to an imbalance that was already there on my server. Midgard was very powerful at that point, until NF came out, when Albion pretty much tore up every server, and my poor Hibbies didn't stand a chance at all :(
All in all I lost countless hours of sleep playing that game, and I don't regret the time i spent playing it. Hopefully Guild Wars will offer that same feeling when it comes out. |
FFIX and Colonization, but not a long-term-relationship
|
A couple of games I was really addicted to where back in the day were The Sims when it first came out, and Unreal Tournament as well, playing online was so much fun, I got to try it again one of these days...
|
Morrowind.Finished it with 8 characters(each time with diferent mods :D ) and I began to play it again recently...
Command and Conquer:Generals.Well it seems everyone hate this game but I am playing it in multiplayer with my friends almost three times a week.(In school... ) Half-Life.Finished it countless times |
Max Payne. Finished it 30 times!!! Kinda odd huh? I played it on different levels and killed many enemies in style. Now its Doom3. I play different levels but I dont think I could repeat the whole game again... too scary... I think about my health...
|
Doom. Holy hezus every Halloween me and the guys bust it out and poopith our pants. Then we bust out Alone in the Dark. Ill leave the reaction to you.
|
I was addicted to Civ when it first came out and Jagged Alliance Deadly Games (I started making my own scenarios and the guys in my apartment would try to beat each others scenarios)
My latest addiction was the Pirates Remake, I spent hours playing it a day but since it ran so slow it couldn't be helped :) |
Deus Ex, played it 4 times just trying to see how I could finish it differently.
|
Deus Ex was indeed a good game, a lot of ways to play the game differently each time, like a no kill game, plus with the 3 different endings it makes a good play and with some of the cool mods like Zodiac or RedSun, it makes the game a lot more longer lasting.
|
i was... i started playin halo about a year ago and i still play it like at least an hour or 2 a day (may sound crazy but hey blowin people brains out in multi-player never gets old, besides reminds me of the good old days like DOOM and DOOM II or DOOM FINAL or OMF, Wolfenstien, and... crap im gettin carried away)
|
If i write tell all those games i got addicted, i could hurt my fingers.
But the best of the most addictive games were: Final Fantasy games, Fallout, starcraft and duke nukem 3D |
I was addicted to Ultima Online for a while during 98, but I quit when I realized most of the people playing were annoying snotbags who named their character PiMp_Mastah_McDaddy or Batman or similar and went along using the game as a IRC-chat.
I haven't touched a MMORPG since then and I'm not planning to. Takes up too much time. |
Many, many games over the years. Most recent addictions are Bloodrayne and Arcanum.
|
Fallout 1 i have finished it 6 times.
I think it is the best game ever! |
The odd bout of one-more-turn syndrome with Civ games, but I reckon I might get addicted to Fortress forever when it's released - I'm very disproportionately excited about it after reading their latest updates today.
|
Ohhh yes...
Deus Ex (done it at least 6 times now, still disappointed with the later levels) Both Baldur's Gate games (done them a fair few times too) Freelancer (still playing it) Any eJay program (I have a load of them) Ah it takes my mind off of the real work I should be doing at this point. |
I remember having a brutal addiction to the original Elite on the C64....Took a large chunk of my school nights away.
If only somebody would build an up to date, on-line Elite universe I could ignore my homework again. |
no not for 4 days in a row , but I did wind up playing number munchers for like 6 hours in the row
|
yeah one game runescape then i just got up and quit i can't stand the under age annoying arse community in that game :ranting:
|
Turning off the public chat makes the game slightly more bearable but the repetition still gets to you.
|
There's tons of games I've been addicted to, it's not that difficult.
Civ Civ 2 Civ 3 Civ Net Civ 2 Gold Edition Alpha Centauri Diablo 2 (Even after 5 years I'm still playing it online) Fallout Half Life Counter Strike Day Of Defeat Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Diablo 1 Starcraft Warcraft World Of Warcraft Anarchy Online Doom Doom 2 Doom 3 Half Life 2 Freedom Force C & C Renegade Baldur's Gate Baldur's Gate 2 Neverwinter Nights Planescape Torment Resident Evil 4 XIII Animal Crossing Legend Of Zelda - -Ocarina Of Time -Original -Zelda II Link's Adventure -Majora's Mask -Wind Waker -Link's Awakening -Seasons -Ages -Four Swords (GBA) -Four Swords (GC) -The Minish Cap ---- Max Payne Mafia Battle For Middle-Earth Age Of Empires Age Of Empires 2 Sacrifice Sacred Unreal Unreal Tournament Unreal Tournament 2003 Unreal Tournament 2004 The list goes on. |
I´ve been addicted to Dune 2 and Jagged Alliance 2.
|
most recently vega strike for me.
|
I have everquest but i cant seem to get into it. I have beat metal gear solid 3 3 times so far and metal gear solid 2 8 times. I loveeee that series wonderful story line and ohh it just rocks
|
There are a few games that have really got me badly addicted. Just for the sake of spamming the forum again here are my top 5 all time life sapping games.
1. Everquest: So addictive that I ended up having to pull the plug out of my computer whilst gripping my wrist with the other hand and yelling 'stop, make it stop' otherwise my life would have vanished, I'd never have got laid again and the sun would have been a dim and distant memory. I realised it had to go when I suddenly felt very thirsty, needed to pee desperately and got a niccotine craving like mad. I'd been sat infront of the screen for a solid ten hours and felt like death when I crawled away. The funny thing is I can't really explain what's so great about it, there's no interaction with other players beyond grouping up to go and bash things and it's not especially deep. All I know is that it had a similar effect on other people I know and some people I used to work with all quit together to pursue other interests, like living. :bye: 2. Civilisation Call to Power II: As it came out of the box it was just rubbish, the graphics were no better than CTP I and not much had been added. It was riddled with bugs and the AI milled around like a bunch of hobos while you cut a swathe through their land. Simply dismal. Then the Apolyton fans patch came out and did what Activision couldn't, or couldn't be bothered to do. All of a sudden the game went from poor Civ 2 clone to utterly addictive life sapper. With up to 32 different civ's on your case, myriad new ways to play and much more realism I got totally hooked, and I still am. Considering it cost a fiver this has to be the best value for money ever. Forget Civ3, compared to CTP2 with fan mods it is utterly shallow. Give it a try, if you like strategy games at all then I promise you that you'll be hooked. 3. Xcom I, II and Apoc: Squad based strategy games have always fascinated me, I don't know why but Laser Squad got me pretty hooked and I effortlessly transferred my affections to these games. It isn't about fast reactions, nor is it about mashing the joystick button as quickly as possible. You can take five seconds or an hour thinking about your next move and the combat was engrossing and satisfying. Apoc was the version that really appealed to me, the graphics were much clearer and though less random, the buildings were fantastic. As soon as I finish it I have a new game on the go, that's how good it is. 4. Captive, on the ST: Anyone else remember this classic? It was like Dungeon Master only with four cute robots, about a million different places to go and about twice that amount of items, both useful and utterly pointless. The monsters were great, the tension was brilliant and the robots ceased to be a collection of stats after a few days play and became your avatars in a dangerous and fun world. I really loved this game. 5. Any adventure game, of any quality whatsoever: From the earliest text adventures to the latest releases, if its adventure or IF I have to finish it. Other adventure fans must surely get the same addictions? One thing I really love about this genre is you can go away from the PC and be doing something else (like pretending to work) and the puzzle will suddenly click into place and all of a sudden you have a need to get back to your computer to try out a new way to get past a tricky puzzle or problem! I once drove all the way home from work at lunchtime because of a flash of inspiration. If that isn't addiction I don't know what is! Thanks for taking the time to read this, or at least click past without the need to yell abuse at me for my long waffling posts! |
Counter Strike-damn...why didn't they ban me so i can stop?(yeah right)
Starcraft-for a while HOMM 3 SOD-2 years and the rest...not much... |
HoMM 3 - AB & SoD
Starsiege Tribes Jagged Alliance 2  Battlecruiser 3000 AD - 30 minutes (due to a bug related to my voodoo 2) Battlecruiser Millenium - 20 seconds (due to the fact that the game does not run on a Voodoo 2) |
My list is almost Pigggy's list only with a few different games.
Like the Krynn series instead of Dod, Half life and Fallout :D |
i´m addicted to transporter tycoon for the last 2 weeks, and i can´t stop playing until i beat the records in abandonia.
|
Strobe, are you my clone or something? Freelancer, Morrowind and MGS? You hit the spot!
OK, I play Morrowind right now, I don't want to install Freelancer again 'cause I'm afraid that I'll want to play multiplayer on Asylum 51 again and this stupid banwidth limit on ADSL is killing me.... Now, where did I put my MGS? |
Metal gear solid 4 ever!
|
Addicted? Yes. I still am to some extent.
Warlords 3. I love that game. |
Oooh, the subpar sequel in my opinion.
I was hooked on Homeworld for so long I stopped eating for a bit. |
totally addicted to Diablo 2 about 4 years ago!!!!
hmm smash bros melee for a while but I seem to able to control myself long enough to remember that I have a life!! Then I go for some  with friends :D |
Harrier Jump Jet springs to mind. Got it as an Xmas present waaaaay's back. Now the floppies are bad and I can't find the damn thing anywhere on the net (apart from underdogs where I found out the damn thing is ESA protected).
Doom 2 is also one of those game's I got completely sucked into. Colonization and the UFO (Xcom) games almost made my behind grow stuck to my chair. |
World Of Warcraft i love that game
|
Hmmm I would have to say Half-life :P
|
i guwss its obvious from my nick..avvie and sig
|
Manic Miner then? :P
|
i used to be highly addicted to Guild Wars... till i maxed out all my guys and beat everything... then it got kinda boring.
 |
Let's see...
|
Yes... diablo I-II were both good games... number one was a little poor... but diablo II is tons of fun i play it at my friends house everytime I go there.
|
Age of Mythology for over a year! I used to be in an AoM clan, and if I didn't have a daily fix of at least 2 hours on the ESO server, I couldn't sleep.
No, I'm not exagerrating. I'd spend an average of 4 hours a day, 7 days a week on AoM for months. I was pretty well ranked however :P |
Lately I've been addicted to Metal Arms.
Very good singeplayer experience, even better multiplayer. |
'Civ 3' addict here. I was so addicted to the game that many times my head started to ache and my knee-joints hurted too much but only power-cuts were there to make me stand-up from my compy.

Are you serious? I was just about to come in here saying I was addicted to runescape (lvl 72 with all the other skills, beleive me....takes forever) because of it's constant updates. Aand right now I'm addicted to Diablo II(highest lvl 52 cuz I just can't stay on one character class)!!! What IS the world coming to? Who knows, I've been planning to become a game creator (wether it's programming, 3d modelling, etc...) for...ever. Im probably gonna be a maker of all these wonderful games put together. I always love games where you can do all the misc crap! Ever played Red Faction the first one? You could use a rocket laucher and make long tunnels in the walls and climb in them. Wow that was fun, I plan on making a game that everyone would want, and would be addicting....but have a bunch of crap like that, so even if you did get bored, you'd discover a whole new way of playing. |
Quote:
In marketing very few products are positioned so that it apeals to all. Choosing a segment of the market that suits the game allows for maximum enjoyment for that group and that will add to reputaion and allow for future sales based of reputation. Of course a game that everyone wants would be great, just near impossible. I know what you mean about the extra random crap though... sometimes thats the best part of a game! *Sorry if I took your statement too literally! |
In all my posts I've seen that you've been reading each after I finish LOL.
... :ot: |
Quote:
Tthe types of games where you can choose to take entire different paths...wether it's being a hero, villain, builder, bartender, all those things. Of course a combination of all of them. How I'd like to go do a few quests, come back and work as a bartender for some cash....then go home and build myself a chair..... I don't know, something like that |
uh stebbi diablo 2 sh*ts all over runescape
as for addicted to games hmm Rise of Nations i played that for a long time |
I've played Age of Empires II with the expansion. That was a pretty cool game, though missing some animals from the first one.
I really want to get Age of Empires III. It looks....well good of course. What I saw on TV was hilarious, what they say when they're about to die! "Oh god I've been shot! I'm dying in a war that never ****ing happened!" Other than that I seem to like strategy games alot more than I thought, and this seems good. |
- Age Of Empires II - Settlers 2 gold - Doom 1&2 (actually editing the sprites and sounds was more addictive than playing the game :) ) - Morrowind - The Legacy of Kain series (except for Blood Omen 2, that was kinda quirky) - Monkey Island 1 & 2 (still playing those, quite frequently) - The Tomb Raider series - Commander Keen (even though I'm not that good at it) - Mines - Patience - Snood - Tetris |
I think Age of Empires is overrated. Combat is cheesy at best. I enjoy Rome Total War because the combat is so immense, and it is so much more tactical based than AOE.
|
Anyone ever heard of the Commandos series? Part 2 is definately the best (which I played for months!!!111)
|
- Fallout 2
- Fallout Tactics - Wizards & Warriors - Total anihilation - One must fall 2097 - Porrasturvat - Stair Dismount - freeware - push someone off the stairs. :D - Carmageddon 2 Carpocalypse now - HOMM 3 - Dink Smallwood |
i have an addiction...Counter strike 1.6 (I hate source...looks so boring)
|
Source, I think, is 100x times better.
Latest addiction was Vivisector - Beast Within. Best 2005-06 game. :kosta: |
Quote:
Still, i must say that one of the best games ever was,is,and will ever be... Commander keen 4. :ok: (You MUST get it or i may forget 2 save the galaxy! ) But i did get addicted to these: Starcraft:brood war(multiplayer only though:computers too hard 1 on 1+) :wall: Stronghold crusader(and 2 if my computer would run it) :Titan: Pirates! Runs off a floppy, works on my 386.Whats not to like? :D And microsoft flight simulator 3 is good if u like that sort of run off a floppy stuff... LOL |
im addicted to street rod 2....
I was addicted to runescape.. A LOT and civ 2 and about a billion other games for a short time. |

Dynasty Warriors series. I can't stop playing those games.
|
Counter-Strike 1.5,World Of Warcraft and some other games
|
At one point, I was addicted to Military Madness, a Turbo Graphix 16 game. Also, Keith Courage was a big one for me :-)
|
Addiction is the Devil really...
Ultima online has had its hooks in me for about 6-7 years now, I love games that don't end. |
I used to be addicted to Doom 2 when it first came out for at least a year. I'd play it until my brain went numb and I was nothing more than an automaton. There have likely been other titles too over the years but for some reason that one game kept me locked to my PC like no other. I don't game anywhere near as much as I used to so addiction is no longer a reality for me thankfully.
I also never got started with MMORPGS because I have no doubt if I did I'd surely get sucked in and spend too much time on them. I will say I was insanely addicted to Virtua Fighter 2 for my Sega Saturn a few years ago but I'm not sure if consoles count in this discussion. |
I keep playing the FF series, I started couple of years ago and still do
|
FF? What serie is that?

Thank you for providing me with the prefect forum to talk about my addiction.
I have a continuing and on-going addiction to strategy/ war games. And I've made it worst by building a super-game around all the games I play. It started out with Warcraft II and the first Total Annihilation (the one with the robots of ARM and CORE fighting each other). At first I was just playing the games. Then I conceived the idea of creating role playing characters (like those of the Dungeons and Dragons variety) for use as a “back-story” to the games I was playing. I.e., I would pretend that a character I had created was commanding what ever forces I was using in a scenario of a game. I’d make a Windows file for a character, giving him (or her) a name, a rank (but not a serial number!). Since it was Warcraft and TA, which are tactical, they started mostly as Lieutenants. If a character won a battle, it would get a promotion in rank, and I would write a quick description of the “action” it had taken part in into its file.. If it lost the engagement, it would either be killed in action, wounded in action and captured, or court-martialed and demoted in rank. Eventually I added a place for describing what medals it had won. It wasn’t too long before this business began to take on a life of its own. These characters began to rise through the ranks, going from Lieutenant, to Captain, to Major, to Lt.Col., etc, just like a Rick Shelly character. I now have a few Field Marshals. When that happened, I would be using them for higher level games, like Panzer General, or Sid Miers’s Civil War, where they would be commanding regiments, divisions, corps, or armies. Then I added naval characters for when I played naval or star fleet games. (The airforces tended to be army airforces or naval air forces, so I never developed an separate air force). Now as I went from game to game, I was playing different time periods, from Feudal Japan to galactic games like Master of Orion. How did I handle that in the character’s continuing stories? Well I imagined that they were all part of something called, the Space-Time Mercenary Service. I imagined that they were part of a larger organization that had a time machine that could provide the armies and navies of any time and any place with seasoned officers. Things really took off after that, with the characters beginning to take on lives of their own. Very often, the series of battles a character took part in tended to solidify and define what kind of “person” the character was. Some would shoot right up through the ranks and turn out to be real heroes. Others would meander back and forth in “middle management” between greatness and obscurity. Others would end up serving multiple terms in Leavenworth before being stripped of rank and discharged (and they would later participate in organize crime games, or pirate games, or intelligence op games, or be sent to the “Siberia’s” of low tech, sword and shield games like War Craft or Shogun). And my would there be rivalries amongst them! Along with competitions, vendettas, mentorings, and lasting friendships. And I would miss the regulars that finally got KIA in one way for another. Just like life. Right now its very hard for me not to play a game. The characters are fascinating. They are living lives more interesting than my own. I used to wonder about where this was leading me, but I’ve since come to realize that it’s the way JRR Tolkien had lived too. There may be more productive ways to spend time. But there are also far less imaginative and truly destructive ways to spend time. Call me crazy. And maybe I am. But it sure is fun. |
for several months I addicted to abandonia .com :D :Brain:
|
Heh, I know the feeling. Now I am addicted to schoolwork
|
Sonic and Herzog Zwei for the genesis were my gateway, then Guardian Heroes for the Saturn. Looking back, I think it was Warcraft II when I think I had achieved status as a "gamer", X-wing and Tie Fighter games. Then came Total Annihilation - got it for christmas in 7th grade, i didnt come out of the office until classes started again, and pretty much played it until i graduated high school. There were minor addictions up until I experienced the glory that is Descent: Freespace, and Freespace2; I cant remember the release dates of these games but theyre old and I still play random missions to this day.
Oh and Resident Evil 4, absolutely perfect game that must be played, I almost failed a couple of tests due to this game. |
I once was addicted to Runescape. :( Now I'm not!
|
You know, I'm addicted to games in general. Actually, at the moment I'm suffering withdrawls from the same. Seems my wife thinks I should spend time with the family when I'm at home, not on the computer all by myself.
Fortunately she's hooked on Zelda 64, but it's just not the same. Sometimes I want some time alone, just me and my games. |
Latest addictions:
Riven and Swat3EE. Riven - confusing. Swat3EE - hard (had to resort to "easy" once). |
Freelancer had me hooked for months.

Hmm, I've never really been addicted to a game. Sure I've had really long gaming sessions and I play games for at least 2+ hours EVERY day. Thats more to do with the fact that I've got nothing better to do. I don't fancy stealing bikes and assualting security guards that are just trying to make ends meat like many of the kids my age like to. Instead, I sit indoors game and do school work. Only harming myself that way, ah aren't I so considerate? :bleh: |
I'm addicted to a cool game called Windows Security Center.
See, it's a game where you gotta figure out how to make the program shut down since it eats up all of the speed your computer needs to run any other programs! |
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Warcraft III (and Frozen Throne) Counter Strike Death Rally Ufo: Enemy Unknown (And aftershock) Age of Empires (all of them) and the list goes on and on and on and on.... /Raasted |
I was addicted to so many games I'm not sure I remember them all. Heres some of them:
UFO: Enemy Unknown Xenon 2 mega blast Xenon 1 Speedball 2 Z The choas engine(I played this one alot, I managed in the end to pass it without dying at all) Quake 2 Doom 1 Doom 2: Hell on earth Fury of the Furies The lost vikings There are more but you don't want me to fill these forums with the full list. ;) You probebly don't have enough room for the whole list. |
Oh yes - i forgot The Lost Vikings (being one myself) - and the Chaos Engine - what a great multiplayer game that was :ok:
Both of the old Doom games were very nice too - though I've always prefered Quake (the original - not and I say NOT Quake II or III or IV)...Speedball II - very nice multiplayer game too....The Xenon games never really talked to me - and Z was deselected in favor of Warcraft, C&C and the others.... /Raasted |
I'm a big Silent Hunter III Addict. I just can't stop playing. With the Patch 1.4b and some mods (There are many mods, but also 2 Combinalbe bigger modpacks) it's the Best submarine Simulator Ever! :kosta: :ok:
The Modpacks are all availible from the forums on www.subsim.com . |
Uh, I've been addicted to Broken Sword, Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Dune, Dune 2, Flashback and Out of this world.
Phew! I'm an adiict.... :D |
As it has been said: I get addicted to games in general very easily, IF they're above average. But Ultima Underworld I and Elite Frontier has got to be the two that really got me pinned down in that chair. I had to see just one more level, go round just one more corner, I had to visit just one more system and make just one more deal. Day or night, it didn't really matter. Of course I was bored out of my skull at that time, but still... ^_^

Final Fantasy 7 - my first ps1 game
In one year i had beaten it 6 times over once i have beaten the whole game in only one day Final Fantasy 8 i have beaten this game around 5 times over in one year I rented this game and without a memory card so i just played without and got up to the second disc when balamb gets attacked without dying once but i got beaten by the slimy things in the lower depths of balamb garden |
I haven't been really addicted to games too much...i'm actually trying to create my own games right now...and trying to fit in school and looking for jobs...but if I might get addicted to an online game, it would be Runescape...WoW on the other hand, I need a computer with better performance...heck...the computer I have is a good one, but I highly doubt that it would process WoW or Guild Wars. other than that, it's this other one called Phosphor...it's an online Shockwave FPS game...it's pretty decent, but it only has one arena...you will find it at rasterwerks.com.
|
I am currently addicted to World of Warcraft ...
|
I've played Ultima Online for hours on end. Great game. Now I just play on free shards [servers] because the official ones are too item-based instead of skill based.
|
Diablo 2 since 4 years...but I see I'm not the only one :brain:
All new beautiful games make me addicted...until I've finished them! |
I've been addicted to armored core for 1 1/2 years. There gonna kill off Series in the "Last Raven" this is what I think about that "Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ****! ****! ****! ****! ****! ****! ****!....... ****!!!" :wallbash: :tai:

Guitar Hero (1 and 2). No matter how many times you play through the game, you still want to get juuuuust a little better and maybe try that song once more because there was that one hard solo you think you can do now.

You must be kidding me. I'm almost always addicted to one game or another. I get a game, and play it obsessively non stop until I finish it. Then often I continue to play it.
|
I was horrifically addicted to Populous back in the day.
Also, The Longest Journey kept me utterly rivited until I had finished it. |
Civilization 4
|
I used to be a big Sims player when i was 8
When I was 11 I played Deus Ex all summer! I also a year later really got into the Commandos games until they stopped working with my directx set up :( Nowadays I have a hard time getting addicted to anything... |
I've been addicted to many games over the years. A few of them are: Might and Magic III, all of the Heroes of Might & Magic games, the Age of Empires series, Final Fantasy X, Unreal Tournament 2004, Return to Castle Wolfenstein (multiplayer), Enemy Territory, Quake III Arena, and most recently World of Warcraft. I've been addicted to WOW for over two years now. What started out as enjoyable diversion quickly turned into a bit of an obsession. At one point I was putting in approximately 50 hours a week playing the game. Needless to say, my social life went down the tubes for a long time. I have never played another game that took a hold of me like this one. I finally scaled back my playtime drastically in the last couple of months. In hindsight, it's pretty scary the way I let it take over my life for a while....it was damn fun though. ^_^
|
now I'm addicted to stalker :whistling:
|
I was enslaved to WoW... started way back in 2004, I think. I forget. It's hilarious because it doesn't seem like I spent that much time playing the game. I only quit just last month because I finally got bored of it. The playing was too much.
I guess you could say I'm addicted to RE4, though. hehe. |
Right now, I'm addicted to it. That is, WoW. Bought it about three weeks ago.
|
StarCraft: Broodwar.
If I just think about it I could reinstall it... :D |
DMC3:Special Edition
|
WoW, clearly.
|
there was a time I thought I'd have to search for the civilization anonymous support group. I'd spend hooooooooours playing that thing... specially in the middle of the night. very sad indeed...
heroes of might and magic (2, 3 and 4) was a problem for a while too. so addicting that thing... hehee I also was hooked on Princess Maker 2 and Havest Moon 64 :whistling: I have to be girly sometimes ^_^ |
I was addicted to Sims2 for quite a while... now I am addicted to Fable The Lost Chapters

Might and Magic VI was drug-like for me back in '98 (or '99?). Anyway, I played it regularly for more than three months.
I've also been addicted to: Prehistorik 2 (ah, the good ol' times) Baldur's Gate II Daggerfall Might and Magic VII Ultima VII Fallout 2 One Must Fall (god, I absolutely LOVED this. I played the demo version like if I was crazy, then I got the full game and wasted another two-three months of my life playing it :w00t:) Monkey Island 1 & 2 Indiana Jones and the last crusade/Indiana Jones and Fate of Atlantis The Quest for Glory series (especially 3 and 4) and more, but I can't remember. |

(Unless of course there be Forgotten Realms games whose existence i may be unaware of) |
Oh Boy, I have a long history of getting addicted to games, heres a list I remember that I played for like a while:
- Wolfenstein 3D - Doom 1 & 2 - Total Annihilation - Operation Flashpoint - Garry's Mod 10 - Counter-Strike Source - Day of Defeat Source - Civilization 2 & 4 - Blood 1 - Halo 2 - Guild Wars - Disciples: Sacred Lands - Carmageddon 1,Splat Pack, 2 (Carmageddon 1 the most) - Heroes of Might and Magic Series (Especially 2 Gold... man countless freakin hours on that game) |

Good luck on your quest :sneaky: Oh and as far as addictions, I'll make this easy on me by just saying off the cuff I have a very addictive personality. The main offenders are: The Forgotten Realms bunch (the good ones, anyway); The Final Fantasy crowd; All the final fantasy-like freeware that you dirty abandonians led me to; and Lucasarts adventures! because how often can you say you've played with something your whole life, eh? |

Carmageddon 1, Splat Pack, 2, 3 (TDR 2000) Max Payne 1 & 2 (I've completed multiple times both games in all difficulty settings) Civilization 2 (lately I reinstalled the game again, played for 16 hours straight, uninstalled the game and banished for life or until I manage to control myself :tai: ) |
I was never addicted to one game, by now. The games i liked i played until i get trough all the difficulty settings. So years passed with Doom, Duke Nukem, Serious Sam, C&C, all the HOMM series, TTD, Collin 2...
Then when i got mature enough i got my self first original game (yay) ever, nicely packed, popular and purely superb World of Warcraft (laters and expansion), and now im rly addicted to only one game, playing it for a year now, and not intending to stop. :w00t: |

I was an avid PCGamer reader in my early teens (back when Tomb Raider II had the most incredible graphics and Quake was the scariest sh!t around) and I was in awe over a feature of an upcoming LucasArts production: Grim Fandango. The article was only a sneak preview but with lots of gorgeous and innovative concept art and early 3d rendition caps. When I finally got my very own game some years later, I couldn't stop playing.
"Grim" was the sort of game you didn't want to rush through. I lingered in places, spoke to the same people over and over again, sometimes I just wandered around grooving to the music and enjoyed the scenery. I was almost afraid to proceed in the game of fear that I'd never see my favourite characters and locations again. THAT was an addiction, and how sad yet fullfilled I felt when it all came to an end... Beautiful. EDIT: Sorry, wrong board, didn't see the thread was about multiplayer games. Anywho. :whistling: |
Yes - The Endless Forest. I don't know why, it's not very good :)
|
I'm pretty sure that I used to be addicted to FF8, clocked in over 150 hours in that game. Nothing like one of my friends these days though, with World of Warcraft etc. I've seen him play 23 hours straight for days on end, just to advance a few levels...now thats SCARY
|
Resident Evil 4 was one of those I couldn't just stop playing, I could only start to play other games after beating and unlocking every single thing in RE4.
|
I just Started Playing Neverwinter Nights its a great game ...Lots of things to do .this would probably take a month to finish..And I also cant get away from System shock 2 , after spending somuch time to get it to work on windows xp it was definately worth it .. This must be the best combination of Sci Fi/ RPG/FPS ever !!but DAMN!! this game is scary its kinda like resident evil but in space... i only play in the day lmfao :ok:
|
I guess one could say that I've been addicted to Diablo 2 and The Dark Age Of Camelot. I spent nights and days before the computer during that time. To be honest, I kind of regret that I couldn't find interest in other things back in the days :( I could have done something more useful instead, I guess.

If by LAN party you mean COOP game, you may come over here when we gonna do the next Q2 LAN.
But beware, we're all approx the same age and that Q2 gaming is mainly a cheap excuse to get shamelessly and completely drunk by the end of the night. :D |
As far as i go i prob spent most of my late teenage years on civ 2... one of my mates is addicted to some online RPG tho.. not sure which... he plays it 12+ hrs a day and while he's workin at night hes set up some sort of macro thing so his character keeps wanderin around killin the easy things for small amounts of extra XP. I don't know if i can say that I've been so addicted to a game that I lost days of sleep over, but there are some that I certainly have had enormous trouble putting down. World of Warcraft is currently my vice. I remember going through some phases with the original Roller Coaster Tycoon where I was up to the wee hours and couldn't bring myself to trun the computer off. The hours would just fly when playing that game
|
I was addicted to runescape then I got memebers played for a week then found it boring collecting pure essence at stopped.

Ultima is King!
heh, i was addicted to ultima 5, ultima 6, ultima 7, ultima 7 part 2 (notice a trend? :) ) I still have the "gameplan" notes i would make in school, planning out that night's goals in detail so when i got home i could grab a 2-liter, sit down, and not move for hours and hours. I can't think of anything i've ever done or played that had such a huge influence on my life. Even today, i'm still driven by the "virtues", thinking to myself "that's not showing humility; etc." when faced with a moral decision. I remember sitting there recording all the item numbers, npc numbers, egg functions, everything - trying to figure out exactly how it worked. Not to mention trying to get the u7 series to run on my rather poor computer (to this day i still have nightmares about VooDoo and the "mem" screen, lol) I can honestly say that my intense love of computers stems from having to learn exactly how every byte of memory is allocated at boot-up just to get the stupid game to load w/ mouse support. (let's not even consider getting the sound to work!) I give richard garriot a tip of my hat for creating such a unique and in-depth series of games, during a time when the standard for most games of it's kind was almost entirely text based or hack and slash. Even to this day i still play them often - thanks to programs like Exult and DOSBox that allow these near-perfect examples of how a game SHOULD be designed to persist on modern computers.
|
Ultima addict here as well. Back in the day I also used to play a lot of WarCraft: Orcs and Humans as well as Timequest and The Terminator: 2029.
|
My main addictions? Diablo 2 and WoW. I've overcome them now, but I'm screwed when Diablo III comes out.
|
Oh, gosh. Let's see...
There was Zu Online, KotOR I & II, Quest for Glory I-IV (Three being my favourite), Diablo I & II, basically all of the Mortal Kombat series, LotR: BfME I & II, The Jungle Book on the Sega, Ecco the Dolphin on the Sega, Super Mario Bros. on the SNES, Fable for the PC and way too many more to name. Thinking back on it, I realize that I may have had a bit of a problem. > >; |

Does this question even need to be asked..? ;)
|
Heh, my thing is that I act like I have ADOCD (Attention Deficit Obsessive–compulsive disorder) I know quite well I don't but I can be addicted to a game for a while then just not even want to touch it sometime later.
Guess my first one was Runescape, dark part of my life that was, looking back on the game now it... Well it sucked, all I did for a good 60% of that game was chop trees, lost a good 3-4 months in it. :wall: But it was my first MMO that I ever played so that's something I guess. Next came World of Warcraft, this one... Dang, lost count how long but I guess a year or so. Don't think I need to explain why. :whistling: There was a time from WoW to my next one where I still wanted to play MMO games but didn't want to pay for it, tried a lot of free-to-play ones before I found my next hour waster... Guild Wars, ok this was some of my best times in a MMO ever. The game was fun, didn't have any of that mining or crap like other MMOs, a vast amount of PvP that I loved (Alliance Battles = Awesome!) and a great story. Sadly I grew board of the game after about a good year and a half, that and ArenaNet &%#@!$ the game up so much with all the patches and "Class Balance" (Like the Ursan Blessing nerf) that most of my friends went on to other games, as did I. After that I dabbled in some other MMO games such as Shaiya and City of Heroes but nothing ever really went over 3 months. As for non MMO games... Waaay to many to post in here but the biggest ones are DOOM, Diablo, and The Elder Scrolls Games. |

Took over 2 days. Got the rank "Wolf" and "Octopus", but then played again to get Altair's Rags skin for "Assassin" rank, as I didn't kill anyone the first time... (I like stealth games and not having to kill when there's no need.) Then Claire made me trade it in as I was going mental. |
Counter-strike for 5 years, but got tired of the stress it made in me =)

Starcraft was probably my biggest addiction; way back when I had my super cool 266mhz processor! Before that: Star Wars Episode 1: The Gungan Frontier (Is this Abandonware by the way?). Than I moved on to C&C Red Alert, Than to AOE 2, than to AOM, than to Morrowind... Now I'm fairly addicted to a mod that makes Rome Total War playable, it's called Europa Barbarorum (WILL BE ON THE SPELLING TEST!) Can't wait for EB 2...

Hearts of Iron II.
Seriously if you can pwn the allies using Vichy France, you've played the game too much.:3: |
Yes
Pretty much most of the games I have gotten here I have gotten because I was addicted to them at some point in time.
:rocks::thumbs::max: |
I was pretty addicted to The Sims when it first came out, but most good RPGs get me addicted for at least a good couple of months of solid playing. FF7 kept me playing for a year, same with Baldurs Gate. You know its bad when you have dreams that include the same controls as the games.
|
They are many, but I think the one I played the most was Darklands. The first time was 6 months non-stop. I don't know why, really. I couldn't let my crew down.

Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast

Recently I have become addicted to PS2 RPG's (That's why I haven't been around for a while) such as Persona 3, Wild Arms 3, Final Fantasy XII and the a few more on both PS1 and 2.
|
I used to be far too addicted to Garry's mod even though it took over 10 minutes to load.
|
I was addicted to thief 3, time after time I would retry to get thru the complex puzzles spending the whole night getting to the next level... phew
when the game was all completed the challenge was just finished, and i was normal again .. lol |
Maplestory. >3>
*plays it* |
I used to play Maple Story when it was in beta, and it was addictive. I quickly lost interest though with 20 other characters stealing XP and items in a farming spot. And all of the good stuff cost real money. I might hate microtransactions more than I hate monthly fees.
I've been addicted to lots of games, though. One game that I never won because my save disk broke was Four Crystals of Trazere. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I'd try to sleep and stay up and think about playing it. Conquests of Camelot and Hero's Quest were pretty addictive too. Bioware games and the old SSI Gold Box games were also fun and addictive. There were lots of others, that I don't feel like remembering right now. Games don't really have that affect on me anymore. In fact, most games bore me now. The only game that might still make me addicted is Civilization (currently Civ4). |
I used to be addicted to Team Fortress 2 when I first got it. I used to play Pyro all the time. I also kinda get addicted to RPGs, like the Fallout series, there just that thing were you want to get to the next level, get better things.

I blame this topic for making me addicted to Civ4 again. Been playing it for hours the past couple of days.
|
There is a game called Space Station 13, very addictive. :hypno2:

Yes, I play WoW, unfortunately haha. Back in highschool it was quite a bit worse with EverQuest 1. I played that game Before school, after school, when I was supposed to be doing ANYTHING other then playing EQ. I will never be addicted to any game ever, as much as I was to EQ1. Partially I think because I was so young, lived in the country and had little else to do, so I played EQ! :) |
Diablo, diablo II, UO, Populous, Heroes III were all great addictions of mine.
Back in Colecovision days it was: Smurfs Pepper II Zaxxon Gateway to Apshai C64 Questron ultima III Wizard's Crown Bard's Tale Might & Magic Wizardry |
