when i start the game, it asks if i have a joystick and if i want digitized speech. then after i choose, it says "runtime error integer divide by 0"
any help?

Use "silent.bat" to start the game instead of the "ss2.exe".

I have never been able to get this to run on any of my computers. I'm running DosBox 0.72 on Linux and Windows XP machines. I've tried a variety of DosBox settings and a variety of SS2.EXE settings (as reflected in SILENT.BAT or attempted by hand). Every time, when SS2 is executed DosBox just hangs immediately.

The INSTALL program, when run, gives me a choice of sound cards. After accepting an entry the program then exits (having created or recreated SILENT.BAT). It does nothing beyond this one screen.

Can anyone who has gotten it to run give me a suggestion? Thanks!

I did get it running but the sounds are not really great.. I'm using PCLinuxOS 2009 and running DosBox 0.72.. I use the SILENT.BAT to run the game.. In my SILENT.BAT I wrote:
SS2 VGA IBM

If not mistaken the defaults from abandonia is:
SS2 VGA IBM 720

not really change alot of things to the game though.. the sounds still as bad as before.. :(
well, maybe u need to make sure that all the files of the game not protected or root permission.. juz select all and right click, then click properties.. hope that would help.. [sorry if my english is not really good:doh2:]

Finally Works
 

Well, this was rather stupid, I had *two* distributions of this game and one had a bad executable, however it has sound files not present in the Abandonia copy. It sounds best with the Adlib option but you need the file ASOUND.SS. The music quality is good but the digitized speech is unintelligible. SILENT.BAT is just

ss2 vga adlib

and now it works for me. If you want the ASOUND.SS file see the post below for the link (email address deleted)

Hi there, anyone had any luck getting the speech to work through dosbox?

are you using 0.72 or newer?

what does -HARDC do?
 

while looking in DOSBox's comp. list i found this in one of the comments

SS2.EXE crashes (2010-07-25 13:35) Lucasfr I have to launch the game with the following command line in order to works :
SS2 VGA ADLIB HARDC

as i ready though these comments, the SILENT.bat already has the SS2 VGA and ADLIB, but what does HARDC do?

and the diff with roland and adlib: with roland you only get music, but with adlib, youll also get the speech

I got to manage a working game on my windows 8 notebook via dosbox 0.74.
It runs perfectly. Sound is ok everything. Not bad for a noob.

I do come across some issues:

I can see my mouse move but there is no response after i click something. Perhaps it is solved in my other post.

Now i know from experience.. yes i had the game on amiga back in the eeeeuh 90''s or so and you can play without a mouse.

If i go to periscope modus i should be able to change the heading of the scope (not the bearing of the ship) with the arrow keys. How ever if i do this the ship rudder is going left or right instead of the periscope.

Are any of you having the same issues? Is it something that can be solved?

I have a question. When I load the game up in dosbox, I get to the write protect to chose a ship. when I get to the right ship and hit enter it changes to another ship and says wrong answer. Is there a way to make sure you pic the right ship. I have the list and pics of the ships for this.
