Geezer - Housekeeping

I am going to do some more box and manual scanning soon so I thought I had better clean house and take care of some old stuff that I uploaded last summer/fall. In my FTP folder you will find all the extras for the game Amnesia (lots of stuff). You will also find the manual for Altered Destiny and the manual, reference card and alternative (American release) box scans for Another World/Out Of This World.

Wouldn't it be better to create a thread for each game instead of using the username as the title?

I did this because it's different from requests forums where people ask for games...here you can offer everything. (Manuals, Boxshots, reviews, screenshots, Extra documents....)
And it's easier for us to check FTP in this way ;)

Geezer 17-02-2009 12:19 PM

Would it work for you if I used both such as "JMB - Shadow of the Comet"?

Dave 17-02-2009 12:37 PM

Well this is your personal topic, my idea is to have one topic per user...and so you should use this one for future contributions.

So it's pointless to name this topic with "Shadow of the Comet" because this topic will also be used for other games/contributions.
Did you get my idea?

Geezer 17-02-2009 04:39 PM

Lost In Time

In anticipation of Lost In Time being released for download again I have uploaded the manual and scans of the box and media.

Dave 20-02-2009 08:11 AM

Ok thanks, we have many games prepared, so probably extras updates will be delayed a bit :)

Geezer 20-02-2009 11:06 AM

Paco, you can add Amnesia, Another World and Altered Destiny to your "submissions" post. See the first post in this thread.

Paco 20-02-2009 11:21 AM

@JMB gotcha i somehow oversaw your first post, but now its added.

Ok. I just got to thinking that if you guys are going to do a front page announcement for those games being re-opened for download that we could sneak the extras in there at the same time. :)

Dave 20-02-2009 06:30 PM

Yes, that would be wise.:OK:

I don't think I did screen shots when I played the game a couple years ago so might need some help with that if you want to put this on-site. I think Pigggy uploaded the game archive a while ago.

Are you able to say when the Dragon Wars manual will be ready? I don't want to rush you, it's only a question since I scheduled the game update for Tuesday for now. I can delay it or add the manual later. :)

Certainly not the best work I have ever done but it is completed. Some of the pages had these idiotic watermark-like images behind the text that made it hard to scan. Tried to mask them out with limited success.

I have uploaded the following for the original 1984 edition of Seven Cities Of Gold - PC Version.

Game Archive
Box and Media Shots
Install and Play Instructions
User Manual
Screen Shots

I'm not sure how we should handle this one. Everything is uploaded that would be necessary for this game to stand on it's own except the review. However, we could also zip everything into one file and have it as an extra for the remake that we already have on site. Being that the original did win some awards and was quite popular in it's day I hate to bury it. Other thoughts?

If anyone has time and wants to review it feel free. Otherwise if we have it stand on it's own I may have time to review it in the next couple of months. I have yet to play this one and have a list of games I have been waiting to get to.

Not to nitpick but both versions of Seven Cities of Gold are DOS aren't they? :p Maybe the submissions post should say "1984 edition" or "original release" or something similar. This one is actually a PC Booter and the archive is a pair of disk images and a DOSBox configuration file that runs them.

Have we ever had a game be an extra for another game before?

I think, when the speech version of Return Of The Phantom is added, then the floppy version will be added as extra. Don't know when that will happen though. :)

Hi Geezer,

How's it going?
Did you have any luck with the Carmen Time book? Apparently, according to Moby Games, it's just a regular version of a book - I was thinking we could just play the game through and make a list (the others don't have that many codes...).

Because my cracking skills using Debug and a Hex Editor are not as good as they used to be - I am so rusty. I just cannot find the right CALL statement to change and then there's where to make it J(u)MP to so it just skips it.
It may be easier than making it so that anything that is typed in is accepted. Like the crack on Future Wars.

Anyway, I'm rambling again...
Did you get round to checking? It would be so good to have that game - no other abandonware site that I go to has it.

It'd be awesome if Abandonia had it first. We'd have the set, I think.

I wanted to include the clue book for Bards Tale 2 but it is taking too long. Very hard to scan because of the crazy paper it is made of. The Submission-List show all Stuff that was ever submitted on FTP. All is still on FTP, except Dragonsphere Extra is not there.

TotalAnarchy 13-03-2010 04:43 PM

I don't recall you uploading Dragonsphere extras :mhh: but anyways all extras is still on FTP, we just moved it so we could easily manage the incoming directory (aka new submissions).

Cool. Zip file ends up being 135 MB. Do we have anything that big on site yet other than ISO cellar?

Actually I was planning to review that one since a year ago, but at the moment I don't have much time and I still have the other games to review. So I guess I won't reserve it for now :p

Yes, we do, though I don't remember which games.

I could zip the 7z file (100MB). :) That would probably save 35MB but, I'm sure, would confuse some people. Just kidding (kind of).

Lol, that's not allowed anyways :D In any case 100 and 130 is not a huge difference. It's well within limits also.

This may or may not be abandonware. Not sure. I doubt if it is sold anywhere. This is a 1992 release by Softdisk Publishing developed by Gamer's Edge. It is not the 2000 release by Softek that goes by the same name.

Not what I would call great but ok for beginners. If it is not abandoned you can trash it from my folder.

Mobygames does not seem to have all the facts on this game. They don't have BAM 2 as being released in DOS at all but it was. I don't think the Acclaim of 1996 is the same one that is around today.

Alone In The Dark 1

I have uploaded a CD rip of Alone In The Dark 1. The rip includes all the sound effects and the voice overs but I eliminated the background music tracks for the sake of size. I did, however, rip the music tracks separately and compressed them from wave to mp3. They can be found in the Music directory within the zip file.

I created and included a readme that explains how to unpack and run the game as well as a pre-configured DOSBox .73 configuration file and a sample DOSBox shortcut to start the game. Total package = 82 MB.

The floppy version that we have on site is good but I think the voice acting in the CD version really adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. This download can be played without having to burn a CD and is pre-installed. It can also be played in something like 5 different languages.

TotalAnarchy 29-04-2010 11:06 AM

How much did it have together with the background music?

Geezer 29-04-2010 11:44 AM

The complete CD with the original wave files after being converted to BIN/CUE and compressed into a ZIP file is 264 MB. The file I uploaded has the compressed wave tracks included. There is another file in the FTP folder named BackgroundMusic that can be deleted.

With Nero I was able to reproduce the original CD (from the contents of the 82 MB zip file) by creating a mixed mode CD and including the mp3 tracks (which are automatically converted back to wave).

TotalAnarchy 11-05-2010 09:56 AM

This game has copy protection on Track 6-0.
It can be dumped by Teledisk 2.1x with copy protected track/sectors.

Most of copy protected games run on PCE (IBM PC 5150) emulator only.
That means you don't have to crack or modify copy protection to run on PCE emulator.
