Eagle of Fire 18-12-2004 11:54 PM

Would it be, per chance, The Dig?

Edit: Underdogs Link.

Tom Henrik 19-12-2004 06:41 AM

Here are some screens.

Sebatianos 19-12-2004 09:46 AM

Can't be The DIG. He said:

The DIG takes you into space.

Was the game text based??? I have some wague memories of a text based adventure where you ended up in some ancient pre-christian culture...

Eagle of Fire 19-12-2004 10:26 AM

Thing is Sebastianos, I never played The Dig myself... It's an adventure game. :sneaky:

You never played The DIG??? Well it's an excelent adventure (by Lucasarts offcourse) and has one of the best storylines as far as the adventures go!!!

You must blast an asteroid to change its path (and not to hit Earth) but you discover it's really an allien craft that transports you to another world. On that planet they invented some great things - one of them was an imortality pill, but that one caused serious addictions and social misbehaviour... They also created the Nexus and the entire civilization disapeared into it - except for the inventor (who created both the passage and the pill). You must bring the others back from the nexus in order for them to return you to your home world - and there are some eerie alien creatures chasing you (like a giant spider or a sea serpent)...
EXCELENT STUFF - to bad it's from Lucas. I guess it won't be abandoned any time soon...

Stroggy 19-12-2004 11:07 AM

The story sounds like that of the book "Timeline" by Michael Criton, but I wasn't aware that there was a game about it.

EDIT: and in the book they went back to medieval times so i'm probably wrong.

Sebatianos 19-12-2004 11:50 AM

Actually I think they took parts of Timeline - but most of it from Arthur C. Clarke's Meeting with Rama and The Hammer of God.

Sebastianos: I hate adventure games and I would not be found playing one even if it would be the last thing my computer could still run...

Kon-Tiki 19-12-2004 02:59 PM

Can it be SPQR: The Empire's Darkest Hour?

Sebatianos 19-12-2004 03:05 PM

Well SPQR doesn't look old enough, but could be.

@Eagle - oh yeah - I forgot (your loss you don't play them, but it's all a matter of personal taste really - no point arugeeing there  ).

Tom Henrik 19-12-2004 03:11 PM

Screenshots for SPQR

TaloN 19-12-2004 08:23 PM

no it was a really old graphics based game, we ran it on the windows 3.1 386's at school when i was 8... so about 8 years ago..

Kon-Tiki 19-12-2004 08:45 PM

Avarisius? I don't think you were actually transported to ancient times there though... that Avarisius actually already lived there.

Eagle of Fire 19-12-2004 08:50 PM

This strangely enough sounds like Settlers 2...

Kon-Tiki 19-12-2004 09:30 PM

Avarisius's an adventure game in the same style as the very first Sierra adventure games... Kings Quest, Space Quest, etc. Another one in the series that I know of, is Avaracus or something like that... 's been ages, so could be that I got the names a bit off. I'll see if I can get more info on it.

TaloN 20-12-2004 07:13 PM

it was roman times and ou treked around the city. grr ths is bugging me now.

Elaslay 22-03-2005 07:00 PM

I was just about to post a topic about The Dig. PLEEESE post it on this site!

Havell 22-03-2005 07:02 PM

Nope, sorry, still for sale and far too big.

Yobor 22-03-2005 07:16 PM

I vaguely remember such a game as well, but I am not sure exactly what it was.

SPQR stands for Senatus Populus Que Romanus, or the Senate and People of Rome.

Flop 22-03-2005 07:35 PM

It wouldn't happen to be Rome A.D. 92 (AKA Rome: Pathway to Power), by any chance?

You're not teleported back in time, but you spend plenty of time trekking around Roman cities.

Add to all of this that Steven Spilberg assisted Gerge Lucas in creation of this game. Indeed nice game, great plot, and almost like an movie :)

marko river 23-03-2005 09:44 AM

That's correct. Game was a hailed too much using the Spilberg's name. At the end, it turned out to have below average graphics at that time (althoguh it still looks ok) and very bad story. Story is good, but totaly unoriginal, which wasn't appreciated in my country at all. I don't appreciate it either. Still, Dig is good adventure.

Back to the topic. You said that you could roam the streets of Rome. Could you be more specific? Roaming like in Diablo, Sierra adventures or screen by screen like in Lost in Time ????

Saccade 15-11-2009 06:00 AM

Is this game Timequest..?

not that this guy seems like they're around much any more...
