Hello guys, welcome to the first Abandonia Ufo2000 tournament!


Our idea is a classic Tournament, if you win you can go ahead, if you lose you're out soon.
You don't need much time to participate, the game is turn by turn, you play the same way as a normal X-Com mission. Cool uh? :nuts:

If you want to participate please read carefully this topic and follow the points...and of course prepare for battle! :amused:

If you want to play post here your will, we will create a list with the name of participants and matches into this topic, you have to organize the time of your battle by PM or using the Chatbox, may I ask you to be correct and loyal? We play just for fun, not to have fun of losers ok?

I've got a question though. I live in Taiwan so my timezone is a bit of a problem unless we have any Aussie or Asian players here. Basically when I'm sleeping everyone else is awake and viceversa. How are we going to set up these matches?

Edit: I know my location says United States but you guys didn't have Taiwan on you country list so I went with my home country:confused:

Welcome pieboblol, don't worry and look previous posts, skaven510 is from Taiwan. ;)
It should work with Gold edition too, but it's better for all partecipants to have the same version or the game could crash.
So my suggestion is to donwload all the material from the links I provided. (first post)

I can't believe I only found out about this now. UFO is one of my all-time favorite games. I've never played against anything other than the AI, so I think this would be an awesome experience.

My timezone is different so I don't know if I'm one day late or right on time - but if I haven't missed the deadline then I'd love to join.

A surprise announcement is that there are still tournament spots available. We need 5-6 more participants to make the tournament balanced. Otherwise, as you can see, either o_unico or mbirdy could easily get into semifinals. So, participate now If you want.

If you, for whatever reason, cant participate, PM me now and I'l give your opponent a match with someone else.

Now, its all up to you. See who you have a match against with, then contact him and arrange the match between you two. Then, fight. After the match, take a screenshot of the result screen and send it to me. The picture is required, because I need clear proof of the winner. The winners will naturally advance in the tournament.

There is no "waiting time", unless you dont have any designated opponent.

All the game rules and way's to play this game are on the first page of this thread. Still, If you have any questions, ask on this topic.

Don't worry tzutzy, that was a damn close match. Ironically, the one unit left was the one you hit in the face with a rocket in turn 1. :laugh: They only had 17 health left, and no under armour.

BTW, I did actually save a replay, so if anyone wants to sit down for half an hour and watch...

Well, Hello everyone interested in the UFO2000 game. I am Trolly2 (somehow my other account confirmation mail got lost, so I had to put a gap between letters and numbers :/). Anyway, if anyone could add me to the substitutes list, I would be grateful... Didn't know that there were any servers, that I could play on for 3 years and back then, I was at the top in this game :). I started hating beta versions though. Dying to get back at the top again...

I won I won! :D This was a strange battle and full of bad luck hiehie. First turn: The primed grenade exploded in my hand and one of my soldiers died. Second: My rocket hit a lantern:P Fourth: one of David86's soldiers died with no reasons. Hiehie :D And finally I killed then all :)

Next weekend will be pretty same than last one, i will be at home studying so if muty shows up in msn or by pm, we will play.

Servers are working so it's probably a problem of your net.
Did you check Firewall options?
You have to solve your problems because Hamachi is a substitute of official servers and can't help you.

Well just lost the semi against Laiocfar!

GL to him in the final.

It was a close match... 5-6, 5-4, 4-4, 3-4, 2-4, 2-3, 2-2, 1-2, 1-1 and 1-0. To tell true gkar was to win the game in the 2-4 but him blew his own HW trooper and lost the one who tried to replace him to reaction fire.

When the battle become a 1-1, gkar got the first chance to shoot, as you can see, reaction fire didnt activated, still gkar choose to move to a safer position and failed when fired his ¿grenade launcher?.

After that, i try two blind shoots... no luck and then i was running away with an empty weapon. The first dead body that i made was a one of my recon that was using a laser :nuts: . But Gkar traced my movements and easily found me and shoot. The under armor took 36 damage point but the blast destroyed the laser rifle.

The empty plasma sniper was left and i run for another body, this time i managed to pick up another laser rifle. When i look after last gkar´s trooper i found an empty laser launcher so i moved to the nearest body, another of mines with a plasma sniper with only one bullet left. In the first shoot of the auto i won.

Actually i blew up another muton! and had the firepower to easially blow up the final 2 enemies. but i started scouting with the 2 wrong soldiers in the ending fase becouse i got a little 2 confident.

I couldnt attack the last man becouse i had only 4 health! so i had to find explosives first. The replay is nice, check it out and see how i blew my shot at the finals:

@gkar2000: I had problems with replay, it's a bug of the 1062 Stable Candidate, if you have found a way to run it let me know.

We have done our match with the 1.086 Beta. I found out it actually is more (1%) stable than the stable candidate :).

But more importantly the F3 (loading) function works 100% of the times which raises the stability to 100%. If one player drops out simply wait until he reloads and presses F3.

also many other bugs are fixed in the beta version. Including the replay bug. there are only a few minor changes (wich improve the game i believe) to weapons and armour stats. (like a normal knife costs 10% tp and a Combat knife something like 35% tp in the old version and in the beta both 10% which is more logical)

Both players agreed to change the version to the beta btw i hope u dont mind us agreeing to play the beta v. i suggest the final is played in the Beta also, so other players can watch and enjoy the Final battle.

You known that i saw you blowing your mutton... The mine that killed the sectoid was in already blew area. So even when you threw it, it was impossible to known about it. But the one of the mutton was really strange, i saw the explosion and believed that you blew the mine to pass by.

About version... the change on knifes is very important since you can open self-made doors too easily and quietly with them. It took me a while to note that.

No problem, you can play with the beta if you want.
Actually it's less stable than the 1062 but I didn't know about the F3 option, that could save many matches ;)

I don't like the fact that it isn't completed, no music on menu and other few things. Still have to decide if we will use 1082 for our next Tournament.

In my opinion 1086 version is better than 1062. There is only one thing what is bad in 1086 for me - sometimes it is hard to play couple matches one after another becouse that version generates memory leaks( which may cause crash). Other things mentioned (F3, replays and others) were improved - although the gameplay is a little different than at 1062.
And about music: you can always edit ini file and place paths for music there.

The stability of the 1.086 version is higher. Because the there are some CRC crashes in the beta which do get registered as a CRC disc but doesn't cause the game to crash. 'bout 4 in a hunderd games so raises the stability just above the 1.062. For tournament games however the F3 and replay functions are great addition. There are more less important bugs in the 1.062 which i've encounterd wich dissapeared in the Beta. Like a unit which can't move in 1st turn, or starting on a rooftop, no alien pictures in lobby and more. argueebly only could be the inventory changes but still....

I have to agree with Intri2 that the 1.086 is better.

however to keep a little in topic, would be nice to see the tournaments FINAL replay!

Ask to AlumiuN, you can use the one you prefer, I've found a way to display replays even with stable candidate, so not a huge difference between them.
Remember to do some screenshots of the battle!

Go to the server chat and type this:

"Ufo2000 getreplay ID" where ID is the number of the match, you can find the number of all matches into stats section:

The server stores replays? I didn't know that. :) I'll probably save a review anyway. Also, isn't the replay stuffed in 1062 in that it takes ages for each action to take place?

In 1062 replays are broken, but you can watch them using that trick I told you.

Well, I haven't got it installed, but I already have the installer for it, so I suppose we could use it. I'm just worried that my computer will run out of RAM at a surprising speed thanks to 1086's memory leakage issues. :)

Well. We're finished. Pwnage came from both sides, with a kill tally of lots. In the end, the luckiest competitor won - ME! I say lucky, because in UFO2000, 100 percent accuracy does not mean you will hit, and my guys relied largely on 40 percent accuracy. :p Well done to laiocfar, he was a good opponent and thoroughly outclassed me until he ran out of ammo. :)

NOTE: You'll need 0.7.1086 to see the replay, not the 1062 everyone used for the tournament. Sorry. :)

About the match that i miss on the other tournament, i just didnt make in time for the game. I am sorry to my rival and to fuel who is doing an outstanding job there.

I wouldn't say 'beat you good' - one guy left with 20 odd health and stuff all armor as well as one auto-shot left doesn't constitute good. :p If it weren't for my sniper in the building and your dudes making holes everywhere in said building, I would have been wasted. :D
