downloading / buying games

ok I'll be slightly more specific - i'm trying to get my hands on space quest 1 - vga....thanks!

1. If a game has the http://www.abandonia.com/themes/abandonia/download.gif icon, click on it and then on http://www.abandonia.com/themes/aban...loadbutton.gif to download it.

2. If a game has the http://www.abandonia.com/themes/abandonia/nogo.gif icon, it cannot be downloaded.

3. We do not sell games.

Greetings. I searched a bit for Space Quest on Google but I couldn't find any place to order it I fear. I did however find a complete remake made for Windows.

I won't be posting it here because it could be warez. I'm unable to verify it, sorry.

Another good place to ask is probably the official sierra community forum.

Try asking people here, perhaps Sierra has some kind of classic game pack you can buy.

Kind Regards
Nick

If a game has the http://www.abandonia.com/themes/abandonia/nogo.gif icon, it means go look for the No 100 icon instead.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...+quest&x=0&y=0

btw remakes are not warez, you can post away

If you mean the "Space Quest Collection", it was an officially released "port" to Windows. (Actually not a port at all, just using a chopped down version of DOSBox to get the DOS game to run under Windows.)
If you found a place that has it for sale, I think everyone would appreciate the info (especially since we have to track any legitimate sources for the non-downloadable games on Abandonia).

The space quest collection can be bought online@
terragame.com
621Mb, 19.99$
Demo available.

Would it be illegal for Abandonia to earn revenue by selling custom CDs, pre-burned, of abandoned games selected by users? For example, charge a fixed price, say $15, for a 650mb disc; leave it up to the user to choose how they want to allocate that 650mb, and then burn & mail it. This may be a good choice for people who are still stuck on slow connections, but I'm not sure how legal it is -- if the companies that made the game don't exist anymore, it seems like it should be okay.

With increasing bandwidth speeds and lower costs of hosting, this may be unnecessary, but it might be nice if the owners of Abandonia could be rewarded for the great things they've done. :)

_r.u.s.s. 02-08-2008 08:59 PM

i'd say it's unethical

Kugerfang 03-08-2008 04:16 AM

I'd say it's stupid.

Since there are already downloads.

_r.u.s.s. 03-08-2008 08:55 AM

well the point would probably be to get some games without any hassle and get some ka-ching for the abandonia, but getting money for the game that are not sold is somehow unethical in my opinion. and legaly even more offending than abandonware itself. we already have this "free-game-downloads.com" or whatever the link was, which we everybody hate, which steals material from other free sites, including games screenshots and reviews and sells the games in order to "pay for bandwidth". it's just filthy, shame on him

This would not only be unethical but also bound to get us in serious trouble with any copyright owners still in operation. Big no-no.

To offer any game in exchange for a fee require you to own the right to distribute the game.
We have NO rights what so ever to distribute any game at all...
Basicly we are doing non-profit piracy as it is.. The difference is that we do it w/o causing the copyrightowners any financial loss, by only providing games not sold by any retailer while releaving the game-companies of having to host the games and give techsupport for it.

How do you know we don't make money from this?
For starters, you are never required to pay for anything on the site, nor do we have any major ads that take up 30% of the screen.

Kugerfang 05-08-2008 09:35 AM

The Titan is back!

EDIT: 200th post!

Oh yes, you meant our favourite leecher...who can forget him :notrust:

karooble 06-08-2008 03:14 PM

Yeah, it seemed like it might be a bad idea, but I was mostly hoping there was some way that the people who run this site COULD get rewarded for providing us with so much joy, childhood memories, etc. :o

On that note: Is there any way to donate? :amused:

The Fifth Horseman 06-08-2008 03:25 PM

There is a PayPal donate option, but buried in the game download pages.
Click on any game download link, and under the "Get it" icon you'll see the donation link.

karooble 06-08-2008 03:34 PM

Thank you! :)

It would be better to host a torrent with all of games in it. Need help making it?

The Fifth Horseman 30-08-2008 10:43 AM

We don't have a torrent tracker. There is a person who offered setting up one, but we can't do anything about that while Kosta is away.
