Completely 3D Strategy game???
While I was browsing the web I saw a review (and then forgot where I saw it!!!) about a PC strategy game that was in 3D where the reviewer said something like ' it was amazing watching the rocket fly over the tank and then seemingly over my shoulder' (or something like that!). I seem to remember a screenshot that had a fairly simple tank sith filled graphics taking up most of the screen. I know it wasn't Uprising 1, Uprising 2, Battlezone 1, Battlezone 2, Armor Command or Urban Assault, because I have all them. Does anybody out there know of any total 3D Strategy games, probably from the 90's/early 00's.
I would be grateful if anyone could come up with any title I could then search for on the web and see if it is what I am looking for! :) |
That be one of the Homeworld games.
I completed first one and Homeworld: Cataclysm., bot are awesome 3D strategy games. Too bad I never played Homeworld 2. Might check to get that one now. :) |

Ground Control... That game amazed me with it's 3D.

I'll give it a shot or two: Dark Reign 2 or Earth 2150?

Those other games (DR2 and Earth 21X0) I don't count as complete 3D. (unless you think that Warcraft 3 is 3D as well) |
I've never seen a ground RTS which is "truely" 3D.
The missile over the shoulder comment make me remember a review I've once read about Total Anihilation. But that's a crappy RTS by my own standards... |
Glad you said 'by your own standard' as I believe that TA is one of the best RTS of its time. 50 levels of great gameplay, well balanced with air, ground and sea units. (at the time AOE was one of top RTS)
Not to mention great multiplayer (still a lot of people play it online) and option of self creating units and maps and import already created units. There were also additional scenarios with more levels etc. (never completed those, but have more then once completed main levels) Back to main topic. Are you sure the game is strategy game?? |
Yeah, great multiplayer... All you have to do is make a transport, take the enemy commander up and destroy it in mid air and you won. Such a great game.
Game graphics is something which can be extremely inflatable. I particularly remember TA reviews going balistic on the incredible graphics while in today standards it's now an extremely ugly game. The vast majority of the reviews of that game were so overrated that it's why I remember them in particular. |
So in this case it is just not good because is realistic that your commander is not supposed to survive destroyed transporter?!
Don't forget to mention that commander can cloak him self, and you can create decoy commanders. All of that makes still grate gameplay, especially in later levels. As for visuals, it is still incredible on how low machines game was working, and movements of units was great. Again, you have your taste, and I have mine. In todays eyes game such as colonization looks like dinosaur compared to the new games, but I still play it, same as I play TA and similar games. |
I think the game is Wargasm
|
And what about...
...this one: Warzone 2100 (I think the first 3D ground RTS) : http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/warzone-2100
And if not, it could be WarGames, an older film-themed game from the same year (I think) as Warzone 2100 : http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/wargames (unfortunately no screenshots on Mobygames, but here: http://www.ag.ru/games/wargames are some - but the page is in Russian). Tell me if I'm right! |
