I hate the new website!

I've been lurking on the forums and playing your games for nearly 2 years. The new website is horrible! Horrible! Horrible!

The old website worked quite well and was nice to look at. Please restore the old site!

The new site is horrible! Horrible! Horrible!:mad::mad::mad:

Tulac 07-12-2007 06:17 AM

And what about you not searching for the other 10 similar topics?

That's just horrible! Horrible! Horrible!

dosraider 07-12-2007 06:30 AM

We need an onion leader here, let us all go on strike.

That will learn them.
The @#@#@#.

red_avatar 07-12-2007 11:39 AM

I still hope the site gets centered with black borders left and right - it feels too open at the moment, and it needs to be more "defined" in shape.

Dave 07-12-2007 02:05 PM

Jealous uh? :p
They are working on multiple userbars I think :).

The Fifth Horseman 07-12-2007 02:21 PM

Precisely. As you can see, there were some bumps and hiccups on the way. :D

red_avatar 07-12-2007 08:04 PM

Hey I don't mind being a double VIP ;)

Mighty Midget 07-12-2007 08:10 PM

Well, I don't care much about being a double mod. It only means I have to do everything twice.

Nick 08-12-2007 03:09 PM

The site is still in very bad condition, I think as well.

Old one was better, but it's obvious admin won't go back now. It's a matter of principle. So we have to adapt - that is all we can do now. ;(

Mighty Midget 08-12-2007 03:32 PM

I guess it's more than stubborn admins, if there are any. I'm not sure if they could change it back even if they wanted to. So yeah, we're "stuck" with this for the time being, until they brushen it up, but we'll get there I'm sure.

Asquire 08-12-2007 06:22 PM

Im stoic with the changes... but I DO miss the mascot.

Pietafon 08-12-2007 11:56 PM

New site needs to polish-give admins time to set all things right, ok? ;)

thebes 12-12-2007 10:33 PM

I wish we would have stuck with the old site. An old American saying " If it ain't broke,..don't fix it!"

Heeey how come my location don't show up?

Ok fixed now. Thanks Data if that was you?

zorkzero 15-12-2007 07:09 AM

I have to say as well that I hate the new site look. I was a fond visitor to the old one. But the site is now just too ugly and confusing. Makes me feel uncomfortable. Why oh why oh why did you change the look and feel of the site?

Storm 15-12-2007 03:31 PM

Aren't the site owners/admins still working on the cosmetic side, or something?

Dave 15-12-2007 03:49 PM

Many features doesn't work perfectly or doesn't work (chatroom, OWList, gamefilters...), "Cosmetic side" is important, but not a priority now.

Scatty 15-12-2007 10:04 PM

Is there anyone actually working on the site at all? Doesn't look like there's really much going on right now.

Eagle of Fire 15-12-2007 10:10 PM

The site is working perfectly, just as it was beta tested. Only a few features are missing, like the search engine for example.

You expect more visual side? I would not if I were you.

As for the forums, I'm sure they don't even understand why we don't like it...

jhawk2008 16-12-2007 05:40 PM

Well - I also agree. The new design is ugly and uncomfortable. Very very much. The reason why I liked old Abandonia was the nice retro and nostalgic feeling. Now there is no reason why I shoud be the user of your site. I'm going away to another place. I wish you good luck... :-(

Oh yeah and the minor not really worth mentioning possibility of updating the site with games and translations.

Romano 16-12-2007 07:01 PM

... and Manuals, Walkthrougs, Music, Box scans etc.

Frodo 16-12-2007 07:05 PM

... and making sure that the links actually link to what they are supposed to.

Tulac 16-12-2007 07:32 PM

And the chatroom, forgot about that too. :D

But yeah other than that the site is working perfectly.

Eagle of Fire 16-12-2007 07:59 PM

Exactly my point.

This is your first post...did you create your profile only to tell us this and go away? :p

Geezer 17-12-2007 12:07 AM

... and getting all the old information brought over correctly. Maybe someday.

Adamg 27-12-2007 04:53 AM

I've been observing the site for the last few months, and I feel comfortable saying that the site is, for all intents and purposes, dead. I don't believe the administrators have much interest in the website anymore. If Abandonia is going to return, I believe the administrators should allow someone else to run the site. I was planning on donating some money soon to help with upkeep, but in it's current state I don't believe that would be a very sound investment. Here's hoping Abandonia makes a come-back soon.

TheChosen 27-12-2007 07:22 AM

What I've heard is that AB is still not dead. Its still "Work in progress" (In other words: Its on life-support system now)

Of course, I might be wrong, since Im just a lackey of the admins.

"The administrators" don't run the site. Kosta does. There is a difference.

Since right now the only people who can do anything with the main site are Kosta and the Studentis crew, all of us are in the position of not being able to do jack anything except waiting.

_r.u.s.s. 27-12-2007 10:54 AM

maybe they could at least get us old page back before they fix this piece of site

Dave 27-12-2007 11:36 AM

@Adamg: do you really think they changed the whole site only to let it die?

Eagle of Fire 27-12-2007 11:55 AM

He's completely right when he says that the site looks dead. The forums looks dead too. We used to have 2, 3 pages of new posts/topics in a quiet day, now we can't even fill one except for those odd days. AR forums sometimes have more new posts than this place, and AR is very far from being a high traffic site!

However, even if it looks dead, we the regulars knows it's not. And the point of the administrator giving access to others to maintain the site if he don't have the time anymore is fully valid, but unfortunatly that's exactly what happened: Kosta decided to allow a group to "overhaul" the site and change it to the next version. The problem is that, it didn't end up with a good result. And by what I know (or I think I know), it's like a contract: Kosta can't go around and place the old website back until Studentis is done with the whole project.

The site looks dead??
Wait a minute, didn't you all noticed that we are having 100 new members everyday?
Since the new site is up we passed from about 11000 to 18000 members! :)
About Kosta and studentis group you're right, we are all waiting.

More than that, Kosta is the only person with the ability to contact the Studentis people. Thus, when there's anything that needs fixing on the main site the report has to go through his hands first, and if he happens to be unavailable at that time... well, I think you can imagine the result.

Nope... Those 7000 new members are not posting much, aren't they?

I remember I was in favor of deleting all the 0 or 1 post wonders a few months ago... That would probably place the member count back to what? 1000 max? :p

Yes, but it's different, site and forum members are the same thing now, so we don't have to talk about the forum only, the community is growing: games, screenshoots quiz, Ab frequency, pieces of eight and many other thing are doing a good job IMO. ;)

Me too :p, but we can't think the same thing now, like I said many people register here for other reasons now, not only to post :)

Then it makes your whole comment null and void...

No, you didn't get my point :p.

If the member count will continue to increase, there might be some policy on pruning completely unused accounts after some time, but One-Post-Wonders still have a chance at becoming normal users. :D

Dave 27-12-2007 02:13 PM

But how can you decide who is not active?
I mean, you can do this only if there's a way to check the last time a member came here. It was possible on old site (forum only), is it possible here? (forum + site) :)

The Fifth Horseman 27-12-2007 02:28 PM

Good question - and one I'm not quite sure about yet.

The user filter in the admin panel still works, but seems to be bugged. Like, it claims The Niles hadn't logged in since his registration when in reality he announced his return on the board a few weeks back. (evidence is right before my eyes).

Dave 27-12-2007 10:03 PM

Yeah I remember, but maybe it's because he posted before the site changed. (you can see our bugged quotes)

I have been busy with other sites recently but I will have to say that I am not really in favour of the new site so far, The chatbox is probably the biggest omission at least for me, although I didn't post in it that much it was always entertaining to read :)

the other problem I seem to have is that it keeps logging me out so I keep on having to log in again which is a pain.

I know I havent been on here for as long as others but it is probably only because I joined before the change that I still look here occasionally as it does seem a lot less welcoming although that is not aimed at the people just the overall site design.

chilpillwill 06-04-2008 04:43 PM

redesign

I wish they would change back to the old site, especially for the music section - you cant download them anymore, you have to listen to them on that abandonia frequency thing which is very faulty and i dont like. I think the redesign looks ugly and primitive and if it is the case that they are still working on the cosmetic side of it, then why put it up when its not done. I vote to change it back!

Primitive? First time I've heard that. Truth is there are some things that are better about the new site. They don't get mentioned much, however. The speed of downloads seems to be much better. It may not be as visually appealing to some and there are some bugs still but I am getting the impression that Abandonia is positioning itself to move into the future with things (resources) that weren't possible before.

The body of the car might not be as flashy yet, but the engine feels more powerful.

gufu1992 07-04-2008 01:19 AM

1)Where are the forum profiles, and ability to edit those easily? I can't find it in normals ways, and therfore I have to enter through a thread.
2)Fan Section. Where did it go?

Hey, otherwise I love the site... except the entire "Trying-to-get-back" part. :D

gregor 07-04-2008 06:55 AM

and in explorer it still looks stupid because the text is waaaaaay down there instead of next to all the links and pics (i.e. guess the game). after all this time site still hasn't been propperly maintained for the most popular or most used browser.

AB Visitors / Browsers:

IE -> 46.56 %
Firefox -> 45.77 %
Opera -> 4.98 %
Safari -> 1.62 %
Mozila -> 0.75 %
Netcape -> 0.09 %
etc.

If screen resolution is 1280 by 800 px AB looks fine in IE.

gregor 07-04-2008 11:16 AM

Wide screen then. i have 1280x1024 here and it's no good it seems.

Sorry, WXGA _CAN'T_ be the criterion for a website! Just can't.
Not everybody owns a laptop and most TFT users have a 4:3 or a 5:4 resolution... :notrust:

1280x800 (16:10) on my laptop and still having issues with the width of the site.
(OK, I'm also using "vertical tab bar" in FireFox)

I'd say a site should be maximally 1024 pix wide.
(800 wide is even better for "total" compatibility)
