When I saw the first trailer, I tought: Umm...maybe I should go and see this. But after I saw the second trailer last friday, I tought: Man! I gotta see this!

I bet there's gonna be Star Wars-like lines on 27.7.2007. Anyone else going to see it?

The Spider Mastermind 01-04-2007 02:30 PM

Given my disdain for the quality of the last 8 seasons of the Simpsons, I'm not going to watch this in the cinema, pay money for it on DVD, or even waste time downloading it, unless everyone I know personally tells me it's brilliant.

Then I might go see it.

Abi79 01-04-2007 02:41 PM

Never! I never watched Simpsons, I never liked Simpsons. :P

Japo 01-04-2007 04:11 PM

I think like SM. I was a big fan of the series but the latest seasons are unedible crap.

Well in general I still kindda like the Simpsons... but a Simpson movie?

I mean they can hardly fill a whole episode and that's only some 20+ minutes... how could they ever fill an hour+ of good material?

I'm telling you, it's going to be lame!

They'll prolong some weird scenes, the dynamics will be lost for the sake of stretching the story ect...

BTW - is there really a movie comming out or is this just an April fool's thread?

Grinder 01-04-2007 06:55 PM

Nah, it's true alright. The trailers i've seen so far were pretty good, but trailers are always way better than the films. I've never actually seen any of the latest simpsons episodes, are they that bad?

_r.u.s.s. 01-04-2007 07:02 PM

hey, southpark movie was also over a hour and it was still same good quality as the series imo

Japo 01-04-2007 07:34 PM

In my opinion the South Park movie was even better than the average episode. But for me The Simpsons have changed too much since they were good.

Master MC 01-04-2007 11:12 PM

I voted... illegal.
Oh, legal in my country. :D

I'll wait for it until it's on the telly... probably funny but not all that special. I've heard Blair is in it?

Yes, but SouthPark's writers have never had any problems coming up with plotlines to fill their 25 minute episodes, and were able to come up with enough material for the 80 minute film to be plotted properly, too.

The Simpson's writers, on the other hand, don't always have enough material in their plotlines, and thus they need to rely on stupid plot devices to waste a few minutes and squeeze in a 'celebrity' guest voice or two. So because their writers struggle to put together a 25 minute episode, I think they'll struggle even more to put together an 80 minute film.

IMO it's not worth paying for it unless i know it's any good. sorry if that makes people think i'm a selfish git but i don't want to pay for a movie that isn't worth the money that you paid to enter the cinema/buy the dvd. the simpsons got boring ages back (they have worn the characters out)

Iron_Scarecrow 05-04-2007 10:44 PM

The writing for the movie was started about 10 years ago. I expect it won't be as bad as current Simpsons but I still won't be expecting a whole lot.

The Family Guy movie sucked as well.

Japo 06-04-2007 11:24 AM

That the script has remained unfinished for ten years doesn't sound like good news at all, rather like horrible news.

It was brought up a couple of times in the commentary of the DVD's for season 5, 6 or 7. I can't remember if they said they started writing or just set up some possible plots or layouts. Either way I think it's good news as at least we know it was started by some of the best writers Simpsons has ever had, but the new writers have had a lot of time mess around with it.

Japo 09-04-2007 04:33 PM

That it was started back then could of course be good news, provided something of the good old writers' contribution is recognizable by now. What sounds horrible is this project's having been stinking around dozens of Fox's executives to-do piles and paper bins for so many years.
