MOO, everything else that I still play is available for download.

Note: This assumes that anything else that I value is already out of the fire.
If I see that my house is on fire, but a head count shows that some loved one is still inside, the computer games will have to fend for themselves.

VERTICAL PIG 28-11-2006 02:26 AM

"MOO, everything else that I still play is available for download."

thats good, i wish everything i play is for download (free download i assume)

Avelardo 28-11-2006 03:17 AM

The firefighters would find my crispy toast at my PC, and my last post would be in the "Who will post next" thread; my arm will be raised in defiance, from beyond the grave, directed towards UBCD.

Morrin 28-11-2006 06:15 AM

Propably System Shock 2, Deus Ex or Warcraft 3: collectors edition. Damn, I would grab the whole chest of games with me (I have most of my games in "treasurechest")

TheChosen 28-11-2006 06:20 AM

Definetely Space Quest Collection.

A. J. Raffles 28-11-2006 07:44 AM

Day of the Tentacle.:)

The Spider Mastermind 28-11-2006 09:38 AM

Probably Tachyon: The Fringe. It'd be the most inconvienient one to replace...

Mighty Midget 28-11-2006 09:58 AM

Hmmmm. This makes no sense. I've got all my games on my HDD, so by saving one, I'd have to save them all :brain:

U-Boat Commander David 28-11-2006 11:20 AM

You know, we austrians do not surrender. I would yell like Hitler "WE WILL NEVER RETREAT! WE WILL FIGHT TILL WE WIN OR ARE DEAD! ARRRG!!!" and maybe burn in the fire. LOL

*same as above*

I ALWAYS makes an ISO of all games i buy, and run them off the HD.
Copy protection? No problems, i just call the publishers, and they help me with getting it up and running.
If they refuse, i'll just download it sometime. Best of all, it's 100% legal in swedish law! :brain:

But... if i had to choose to save one BOX, it would be either Total Annihilation or the TA Expantion. AMAZING boxes.

You are so lucky to be in sweden Titan. It really owns over there. *Packs his case for travel to sweden* :whistling:

Frodo 28-11-2006 12:20 PM

Has to be Maniac Mansion. :D

Scatty 28-11-2006 05:42 PM

Hmm, I guess my choice would be Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn + the expansion Throne of Bhaal (+ Dltcep to modify ingame items and creatures whenever needed :whistling:)

Playbahnosh 29-11-2006 12:04 AM

if my house was on fire I wouldn't care about my games... I WOULD SAVE MY HDD AT ALL COST... my entire life is on that little metal box, my self made songs, articles, reviews, programs, documents and stuff like that... if my compy dies I die with it!

Lulu_Jane 29-11-2006 06:32 AM

I agree with The Chosen, the Space Quest collection would be worth a burned arm or two and some singed hair.

But in reality I'd be more like Playbanosh - if my hard-drive burned my heart and soul would burn with it... sad but true :)

TheChosen 29-11-2006 06:41 AM

Good thing my computer is downstairs and near the window. If there's a fire, I just smash the window and throw the computer out.

And If I have time, il throw many games as possible.

Scatty 29-11-2006 06:58 AM

My computer is also near the window but I don't think I would be able to smash the thick window here :whistling:

troop18546 29-11-2006 07:06 AM

Watching my house on fire would be the most awesome cinematic I've ever seen, so I'd probably not try to save anything, but since I don't live in a house - my games are teh savezor.

I find this funny, you should too. It's a joke, a cruel one, but a joke nonetheless - loosen up.

Danny252 29-11-2006 03:13 PM

*points to hard drive*

That thing has more value than all my games on cds put together. Seriously.

I belive you. I tried to burn my CakeWalk tracks onto cds, but being wav, and each song having from 10-30 tracks, burning it all would take some 50 cds. I just don't bother to get started for real. And then there's all those docs and stuff. Yeah, I'd say let the games burn as long as I can keep my HDD. One nice gadget is the "drawer", that makes my HDDs removable. Just put in the HDD I need, and voila.

Like I said. And I also have a mobile rack with more of my important data saved there, so if there was a real fire, I just rush in, flip the swith, yank out the drive and make a run for it. (if I have time I rip Da R3al Th4aNg outta the box too...) ;)

Saphire 29-11-2006 06:00 PM

What would you all only do if your HD's would suddenly give up it's breath one day... :P

Mighty Midget 29-11-2006 06:18 PM

Do? I don't think we're supposed to discuss murder and mayhem openly

Seriously though: "Always keep a backup of important files and documents" is a golden rule. Another thing is, and that's rather interesting: What will we do when important data can no longer be used because it's no longer compatible with the systems of tomorrow. It has already began to happen, and it is a threat to governments as well as libraries.

Playbahnosh 29-11-2006 06:19 PM

Hissssssss! Be gone evil witch!!! Thou shalt not curse our HDDs!

Furthermore, I have my mostest importantest data burned to CD... aargh, I stand the word burning no more... Mommy!!!!!

That's some really low space data you got there. A CD, lmao - that's so... 90's. I guess I'd have to take a 500GB HDD to fit my current important data. :P

We transfer data from HDD's to CD's, from CD's to HDD's, from HDD's to DVD's, from DVD's to HDD's and from HDD's to Blu-ray, the line goes on. As long as one keeps frequent enough backups of his most valued data it will remain compatible even further in the future, with the help of dedicated modders and programmers who work on compatible software and emulators similar to the DosBox crew. I doubt there will be ever real problem with incompatibility.

Mighty Midget 29-11-2006 08:27 PM

Well, tell that to the guys who are trying to find a solution. Thing is: All those data need:
1. Some sort of computer
2. An operating system for that computer to work (a cell phone is, in fact, a sort of computer)

Both these things have changed dramaticly. Today we need emus for our PCs to "read" C64 data, tomorrow we'll need emus for those computers to "read" today's PC's data, IF... those machines are still based on 0s and1s (it is possible to imagine 0, 1 and 2 for no current, current and "half current"). It may not be a small task to change all those 0s and 1s into 0s, 1s and 2s. Just for starters, I mean.

There's always a way, and there'll be always people who'll find it ;)

VERTICAL PIG 30-11-2006 03:37 AM

haHa So FuNNy!! i can see everyone now thinking of a plan on how to buld a fire safe gaming vault or a BomB shelter LOL! well i did looZ everything that i had and alot was very hard to replace weather it be rare or 'im too poor no money'. It does affect your life if you really appreciated what you had. Materialism had been on my mind meny times and i didnt just buy anythng that looked shinny but it had to be special, meet my standards and pass my seal of quality. I dont let Materialism and stuff rule my life, i can go threw it again. maybe

Yep, as the great and mysterious "They" say - "Neccessity is the mother of invention!"

(By the way, who mentioned Blu Ray? For some reason I've got a feeling that's going to go the way of Laser Discs back in the very early ninties... Don't know why, it's just a feeling....)

Tervez 30-11-2006 10:12 AM

I have most of my own games in a place where I could quickly grab all of them...

Except my Ultima VII: Serpent Isle...
I should put it there too...
But it looks so good at my table... And there will be no fire anyway...
Put if there is a fire then you'd have to lose some of them, correct?
No! My body knows no limits when my games are in danger!

Fortunately, most of the other games are in a closet upstairs, and could be quickly thrown to the ground since it's grass.

Burger Meister 30-11-2006 11:12 AM

My computer is in the basement by a window that can open so you can get through. The ground is right there, I would pass my pc, xbox and all the games I have out the window...

Iron_Scarecrow 02-12-2006 12:08 AM

I'd be more concerned about saving my music collection.

iluvpugs 05-12-2006 12:47 PM

Due to the possibility of my PC and games melting in a fire I will buy a fireproof safe and put all my games and my computer there. (hmmm.... maybe the computer should be in a concrete bunker 15 feet underground)

RedHeadSebbe 05-12-2006 01:07 PM

What if the fire started INSIDE the PC? :P

Grinder 07-12-2006 08:58 PM

I lost one HD to a reformat. After that, I switched to Macs. A fire, on the other hand........aaah, this brings back baaaad memories

Blood-Pigggy 07-12-2006 09:48 PM

I would take teh Metal Gaer Soiled eidotion #500 specail d3luxe ediotion.

Cloudy 07-12-2006 11:55 PM

I would grab Oblivion.

It doesn't even work on my computer yet, but it's the deluxe version in the sexy box. With the coin and the Guide to the Empire book and everything!

Ioncannon 13-12-2006 02:33 AM

Hmm Throw all my console games (they are on 3 stacks) so throw em in to a plastic bag, (and I have those all over my room) and run the hell out. Oh and save my Wii.

Marciano155 14-12-2006 01:21 PM

Long life to "Civilization", long life to the Republic :titan:

verek_22 18-12-2006 12:04 PM

I would save TES: 4 Oblivion, but then again I wouldn't want to leave NOX or TIBERIAN SUN either  .
