Anyone know of any free online multiplayer games available for download on the world wide web? I've been playing Soldat a lot recently, and I love it, but I wondered if there were any other decent free multiplayer games out there. I've tried Gunz, by the way, and my pc doesn't like it. It's quite elderly, really.

Ker-Moved to multiplayer discussion :]
|
Enemy Territorry and Americas Army are Great Multiplayer Games, and they are Free. :ok:
|
My PC definitely can't handle either of those, America's Army I know because I tried once, and Enemy Territory is pretty big. I'm running a computer that is very elderly by today's standards. Pentium III, 650mhz 128mb RAM.
EDIT: Whaddya know, my PC is perfect for ET. Except one thing. When I open it, it says "Could not load OpenGL subsystem" - that means I don't have a good enough graphics card right? |
Check out Abandonia Reloaded, most of the action games there support multiplayer mode.
|
Four good free client-based multiplayer games I know: Shattered Galaxy, SpaceCowboy, Wulfram and Allegiance.

Funny source for MMOGs but if you search mmorpg on wikipedia it'll give you a list (among other things) One i played for a long time but have fallen out of is Runescape, kinda low end java based but still pretty fun if not a bit repetative. Also a bit more on the kiddy side is also Maple Story. Wikis list of online games - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_MMORPGs a site dedicated to MMORPGs - http://www.mmorpg.com/index.cfm?bhcp=1 Enjoy |
I'd still recommend Anarchy Online, even though the graphics are getting a bit dated... (website)
|
If you look on Wikipedia for MMORPG they have a good number of browser based ones
|
I already woke up from the dream about free MMORPGs being playable. Although there's rather ambitious looking one called Planeshift. Sadly it's still in some pre Alpha state. But the project is still alive.
Official website: http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html |
I'm downloading the Shattered Galaxy client right this moment, and oh jesus, it looks tasty. While I'm here, instead of opening a new thread I'll take this opportunity to ask - does anyone here play Populous : The Beginning online? I just got back on there after a year or more now I've sorted out my PC..I'm not very good, even when I used to play it every day, I didn't play for more than a couple of months before I had to leave it alone, but I'd welcome a challenge. Let me know.

Try Second Life.
No combat, but the ENTIRE world was solely built by players, you can also make real money (without having to give any cash away) by selling your creations and etc. online. You need to pay to get property (to have a house and such) but otherwise the game is limitless, besides you get to make money (you can get it either by PayPal or your credit card). |
F.E.A.R. Combat has been released recently, which is the free multiplayer variant of F.E.A.R, and is very enjoyable.
Furthermore, for MMORPG's I suggest you check out: Eternal Lands - very small client (26 MB), but a very advanced 3d game. MU Online - bit of diablo-like mmorpg, hack'n'slash For first person shooters: Tremulous - a refreshing game. Aliens vs Humans multiplayer game with RTS elements. (based on Quake 3 engine so should work on your pc...) Nexuiz - unreal tournament clone, but with exceptionally good graphics (works on older pc as well with all options off) Legends - free Tribes 2 clone. Seems to be very buggy though. @chainsoar I'm in a team who creates a 'matchmaker' for populous, which enables you to sit in a lobby, host/join a game and chat with other populous players. There are alot of mappacks available that you can play as well. And leagues enable you to compete with other players. There are also some clans active. So if you look for someone to play... see it here |
And in case you're looking for a more childish (but not too much) MMORPG, get flyff.gpotato.com.

EDIT: I was thinking of the Matchmaker available from strategyplanet. I see now you've made your own version. Pretty cool! |
Yu-Gi-Oh! PoW Joey The Passion. Its good multiplayer game, but not free....
|
You cound try Runescape.
I also heard some time back that there's a Pirates of the Caribbean MMORPG to be released by Disney. The screenshots look kinda good. But I suppose it would be like Runescape. Good for some, not good for others. Not sure if it's out yet though. You can run a Google search and find out I guess. :P |

There is a currently is a beta that will be free upon release called Warrock, in myn opnion this game is one of the most exciting and realistic massive Multi player to date. You have the ability to pilot tanks, Humvees, Fighter jets (and to shoot your buddy out of the sky with a stinger LOL)boats and on and on... The graphics are very well done and the game play flows well. The game is another creation from the MMOG capital of the world South Korea. For more info and to download the client go to http://warrock.net |

ActionCube (http://action.cubers.net/index.html)
|
I've recently been playing Silk Road Online. It's a great MMORPG and it's free (you can buy some bonus stuff if you want to though). Its theme is based loosely around the time of the Silk Routes to China. I've only been able to play a Chinese character so far (lvl 14 now), but the graphics are pretty decent and gameplay is rather nice. Only problem is the fact that the server are often very busy... especially in the evenings in the EU timezone (when I was in Ohio, I could always log in around 8 p.m or so, btw).
|
Did I forget to mention Rappelz? From experience I can say that games made by gpotato are usually good.
|
You could try Cube. Its a free FPS game, I quite like it. You can find it here.
|
Bloodmasters is free and pretty good for a quick an simple fragfest and not too demanding on the system
|
What about Alien Arena 2007?
I've seen it on Abandonia Reloaded but I dunno if it's a good multiplayer game, what's your opinions? Could it be good for lan party? |
I just downloaded Silkroad Reup, and I'm looking forward to checking it out.
Also, Pirates Of The Burning Seas looks like it's going to be an amaging game. Although ultimately you will have to pay for it I am sure that it will be less expensive than anything Disney has its money hungry little fingers all over. Also, it's open for beta-testing now so if your application is accepted you will get a free look in :) EDIT: Fixed my stupid typos... |
Eternal Lands looks pretty sweet. I may have to check that out.
|
Aaagh! Damn you Reup! I've got myself a brand new internet addiction with this fenagled Silk Road :)
|
@Bill Fulks - DON'T! I tried it, and it sucks big time.
|
Don't want to come off as a spammer or some bot but these two sites have free mmorpgs to play. I wouldn't say so huge of a player base on either but they're sort of ultimaesque. Dransik takes some getting used to and I just find it hard to play without getting bored.
euo isn't bad but its more of just a pure grindfest. Never played tibia but heard about it. Again, most mmo's lack in content so take what you will of a time passer or combat type game with chat features. euotopia.com/ www.dransik.com/ www.tibia.com/ |
I can suggest Regnum Online.
It's nice and almost quickly (i could go into multiplayer area following the quest in less then 2 weeks and i played 1, max 1,5 hours each day, not more). It implement a nice concept of Reign Vs Reign. Here the link |
