While surfing on the net, I found out about this game here:
http://www.ghostwoodgames.com/download.htm The screenshots look promising, but I don't know anything at all about the gameplay. I am guessing it probably is like Diablo. Has anybody here played it, and if so, would you care to share your opinion about it? I am still not sure whether or not I want to download this game, so if possible I'd like to hear some more info first. EDITED on August 05, 2006: Quote:

haha. I just thought of saying this looks just like Diablo and then read you'd already said that. I can bet that if you already have Diablo, that would be more fun to play. The graphics aren't very smooth. Looks like a choppy game. |
The models they are are VERY low-poly (thus crude). On the other hand, I always think that gameplay goes before grahpics. I might just DL it this weekend and have a quick go at it. I'll let you know :) Might be something to mention this on Reloaded as well, since they deal with Freeware

Thanks for the info, deathdr_87, and thanks in advance, Reup.
I don't actually own Diablo/Diablo 2. They are no longer available on local gamestores, too new to be abandoned and will most likely be ESA-protected anyway, and I don't want to order them online (bad experience with it in the past). I only play Diablo 2 demo, or play similar games such as Darkstone (see discussion here: http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?s...p;hl=DarkStone), or Dungeon Siege to a slightly different extent. I was wondering if there is a free/open source Diablo clone, though. Shadowflare ( http://www.shadowflare.us ) is free, but only the first out of four episodes. Others that I found are mostly rogue-like such as Egoboo ( http://egoboo.sourceforge.net ), or nethack GUI such as Vulture's ( http://www.darkarts.co.za/projects/vultures/ ), not really my cup of tea. Fate ( http://www.playfate.com ) is not free. So, beside this unconfirmed Lost Legends, are there any free/open source Diablo clone out there? Yeah, someone mentions nothing is really free and you only get what you pay for, but anyway... :whistling: |
I have a question - where abouts do you live? Cause if you live in the covered countries, you can try Play.com for Diablo 2, and Lord of Destruction, the D2 expansion, if you feel like buying them. Both are sold for ?7.99, and I've had no problems with them in the past (...well except for that one time where my game was delayed due to the fact they had to restock). List of countries that they deliver to are here.

Well, thanks for the info but I'm afraid I don't want to have any payment over the internet whatsoever. I actually used to order many things (books, games, audio CDs, etc.) over the net in the past, until a bad experience happened to me. Thanks anyway.

Pfff.. Diablo.
Diablo is just Nethack with better graphics, and a fraction of the gameplay. |

And Hack and Rogue were available long before that. All games which influenced (and are much better than) Diablo. Anyways, back to the actual point. 10 years is long enough for it to be considered abandoned. And I hardly even see the game in used game stores anymore. I think the ESA might consider it very much *not* abandoned... |
Diablo is still sold because the ripoff pack that has diablo 2 and the expansion, also has diablo 1 so it is still sold :(

I couldn't find any references to Nethack before 1996, and their site lists 1999 as the year when the first public release happened. it is mighty wierd that the first version seems to have the number 3.2.2 but i attributed that to a long beta test... :whistling: |
Has anyone actually downloaded lost legends yet? I have a 56k and might do it overnight.

Their website lists 1999 as the fist public release of www.nethack.org, basically 1999 was when the website went public. The website lists 1996 as the release of version 3.2.2, but there were versions out long before that, just not listed on the site. There WAS a version 1 at one point, believe it or not :bleh: I think it might even have had an early version out in 1986, I've heard from a few people who claim to have played it as early as 1986. |

I'm sorry? I live in portugal and I've seen Diablo and Diablo 2 and even the expansion in an ELECTRONICS STORE, in it's gaming department. I've seen the game there for the last three years, basically since it opened, and i'm not exagerating. |
They are no longer sold in my local gamestores. I guess I can still find it in bigger gamestores in bigger cities, I'm just to lazy to drive out of town to check.
Anyway, I am still waiting for Reup's opinion on Lost Legends. |
