Yeah they don't rule the genre but they are slowly getting there, the Unreal Tournament series got ported to the X-Box, just need developers to see if they can put out a decent console FPS and ditto with PC, but they have to both be different not be a direct port, das not cool.

What's the point if you can't use a mouse? (oh wait you can use them with consoles too)
I just hope they won't touch the strategy genre, because they've already destroyed adventures, these are rare on consoles... |
Not all FPS have to use a mouse, try playing goldeneye and you'll see, some games can work with a controller, heck for awhile I used my keyboard solely for FPS, I did fairly decently, but eventually switched to the typical keyboard and mouse combination.
Well in terms of strategy games, there have been a few bad ones for the consoles, it's indeed hard to translate on some consoles sometimes, it'll continue to happen, the only decent system I can see a strategy game go on would be the Nintendo DS, I saw Zoo Tycoon on the system being developed and it looks very good, using the stylus and the touch screen could work, but for the other consoles hopefully not. |
They're making a movie out of Deus Ex?! horror!
Anyway; back OT - does no one else think that for console FPS, the reaction time of the enemies has to be at such a degree so as to allow the player to aim using the controls as to be entirely unrealistic? Edit: Scratch that - production cancelled according to IMDB |
Yeah thank goodness the Deus Ex movie was cancelled, from the looks of what they were planning it would have had little to do with the game,
Yeah I agree with the reaction time, I guess it's to compensate with a lack of movement control for that to occur, a bummer indeed, but sometimes it's got to be fair. |
The day when console FPS games become better than PC FPS games is the day I become sane.
A few reasons PC FPS games are better. -Mouse look -Keyboard -Call of Duty -Battlefield 1942 -Doom 3 -Half Life 2 -Doom (duh) -Painkiller (The best) -Future Shock -Duke Nukem -Blood -Medal of Honor Some of those games were ported over the consoles, but the PC versions were hella better. |

The only genre where PC beat console's behind is strategy...ull never find a good warcraft/red alert style game on either Ps2 or XboX. Edit : just rented Mercenaries and now i am sure console's FPS are better that PC's... |
! Why are Call of Duty and MOHAA on that list!? They are/were terrible!
How about: Deus Ex, System Shock 2, America's Army and (the holy of holies) Operation: Flashpoint, singly the best FPS I've ever played. IMO: The Mouse/keyboard give the closest to realistic ocntrols most people can get. Anyone who's tried Joystick/Mouse will swear by it though! Gamepads just aren't designed for it. Edit: Also, Halo and Red Faction are also PC games(!) Edit2: What about role playing games? They have nowhere near the complexity of PC ones. They're mostly all Final Fantasy clones! {/me gets into flame-retardant cloak} Or flight sims - you just can't replicate the complexity of controls available on a keyboard. |

[/b][/quote] @xcom: mercenaries isn't an fps. good game, yes but fps? no. @jim6: MOH:AA and COD were good games but i also like the few you have listed (deus ex especially) and halo was originally intended for the mac (read up on bungie's history if you want to know why) but then it was switched to pc, then xbox. then gearbox converted it to pc (and they did a sh1t job of it as well) |
MOHAA = COD imo, and both were; to me anyway, painfully linear, not particularly inspiring as regards caring about dying/ your comrades, lacking in any kind of innovation, chock-full of disappointing weapons, not very realistic... so just not very good then. Oh, and it's very much the case that one man san single handedly win a war - you end up getting orders that no real human would ever be expected to do alone.
Seriously; get Flashpoint, it's only a tenner these days, and it'll show you what a decent war game can be. Edit: Oh; yeah, I knew that Halo has a terrible conversion to Pc, but still... The Red Faction PC version is far superior. |
