War Journal - 5/1/99
Stood down on the Caracas mission - higher-ups wanted Skyranger 2 sent, and I gotta say, I don't mind staying behind on a night mission, especially at a terror site. Always too many civilians in the way, and you gotta waste valuable seconds making sure what you're shooting at isn't some poor sap just trying to get home. Heard the mission went well, though - for all but Tom. Apparently he didn't see the grenade that got him, and it got him hard. From what I hear, the return to base was delayed for several hours while the crew searched for something large enough to give a clean DNA sample. Ugh. I don't look forward to the day when I have to do that for one of my men. They did get it, though, and the vats are cooking up a new Tom...or Tammy, maybe.

Rumors are flying around the base about the whole agency having money problems. Maybe if the higher-ups would fire Commander (!) Doubler's personal interior decorator and put her in the barracks with the rest of us, we'd be back in the black.

The situation with Toxik has taken a step in the right direction. At least now we all know what was causing the smell. Sure hope those cleaning supplies get here soon...

Rico has the rookies "greasing the plasma weapons." Man, I never get tired of that one.
