Hello, i downloaded civilisation I and tried to run the game by using the RUNME.EXE and CIV.EXE files, but everytime I get a MS-Dos window popping up with the same message..

C:\PROGRA~1\CIVIL~1\CIV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOs and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Does anyone else get this problem? If so, how do i fix it?

1: Settlers - settlers can build roads, irrigate, build railroads, or
control pollution or mine all in one turn. After all your pieces have
been moved (or in the case of roads/railroads where you wish to use
said road/rr, before) click onto the settlers again, and hit r/i/p again.
Repeat as many times as necessary for said operation on square (the
computer will not let the settlers do anything else once one improvement
has been completed)

The way I see this, it is both a bug and a cheat. Not something I would do.

yup i agree , this must be a cheat , this is not possible in civ 1 and not in the other civs either i think

if you play normal without cheat it is very difficult to do all this LOL and certainly not in 2700BC !!

for level 5 (emperor level ) you need luck too ,not just a good strategy , you need to make the right civ your friend and hope they won't attack you till you are ready , for a good game i recommend level 4 , it's very tough but you can win if you play it right

k i have civ I and there is no multiplayer included , but i am wondering if there is one for civ I ? does anyone know ?

i think civ I is a great game , there are only 2 things that bug(ged) me about this game and that is you can't go over a certain number of units and that sucks sometimes and also unlike civ III if you stack units together and one unit loses the battle you lose all units stacked on that square , but except for that it's one of the best games ever !!

if anyone wants to share strategies or if you are a newbie and want some strategies to get started feel free to pm me

Big THX :)

The game is bugged. Around 1000 AD (may be linked to the date, or maybe to a certain technology advance, I'm not sure) my treasury jumps to 30k and doesn't drop below it. I can buy anything I like, I'll always have 30k gold. This absolutely ruins the game. Is there anyone who can provide a non-bugged version?
I'm NOT using a cheat, the game is bugged.

They made a multiplayer version called Civnet..I don't know anyone that has a copy of it but I did the review for the manual at work years ago.

I would imagine it would be abandoned by now if someone could find it, but Civ 2 has a much better multiplayer system :)
