dr strangelove. i got it on dvd the other day and it is back up there in my fave movies selection, and the dvd has 3 documentorys on it which is definatly cool. (well docus and interviews)
as for zombie movies i like day of the dead the best just for its combination of shockingly good and shockingly bad acting and the bit where the soldiers get ripped in half on the floor and there internals are peerfect. i think that movie has some of the best zombie gore fx ever (just the bit where the female zombie is munching on what is clearly a string of sausages rather than guts drags it down)

Anyone else see John Carpenter's The Thing?
I saw it a few months ago, it was excellent.

You got that right! :D

It's second only to Fearless Vampire Killers, which I believe I mentioned earlier in this thread.

I actually think it's perfectly fair to say that John Carpenter is God, and when he and Kurt Russell get together miracles happen (except for the abysmal fiasco that was Escape From LA).

(Even though I saw it in Japanese)
...................... ......... ..... are you telling me you watch anime movies in english? ............ :max:

Well, there's only so much use to watch movies in their original language as long as you at least have SOME knowledge of that very language...

Mr.Snuggles 23-10-2005 05:04 AM

Well, i've watch many movies in Japanese, (without subtitles at the bottom....well..some kung-fu movies) same goes for Anime. But only the anime had the subtitles i needed. I do understand a little japanese...i mean i know what good afternoon means, and "how are you doing?" and "shut up" :bleh: . I watch some of my anime movies in english..like DBZ for example. But animes that envolves alot of blood but not too much (ugh..vampire hunter D...the old one) and cursing are in japanese.

Although Carpenter is my favourite director (only one I love all his movies), and although the director (with C) that inspired me to follow the same path is Robert Rodriguez, my favourite/best movie I have seen is not one of theirs. Title is Bladerunner, and the movie is a masterpiece (IMO of course).

Best? Tough call. That means it would have to be best in all areas, and one that tremendously impresses me. Hard to single out just one.

I suppose I'd go with Children of Paradise. Issued just after WWII by a French director/writer team, it's an extraordinarily accurate and detailed depiction of 1850 in Paris, looking at the lives and interactions of a group of eight main characters--six of whom have a shifting personal relationship. The acting is superb. The direction is remarkable, with outdoor boulevards created indoors on limited sets. It's all the more impressive if you know the wartime conditions under which the film was made, but even without that, it draws you in.

I failed to mention my favorite movie, even though I've been blabbing away, :sneaky: .

For me, About Schmidt, I have never seen anymore fine tuned characters, settings, plot, and morals in a single film.
It's so beautifuly done, and the message is clear, even though it's never spoken aloud.
