What does Final Fantasy offer that other games don't? Its games are repetative and rarely offer an innovative plot, focusing more on graphics or one-dimensional characters rarely over the age of 20. Its battle system is sub-par, it offers nothing excellent or exciting and the games themselves are standard. Why settle with mediocore when you can play excellent games.
I don't particularly like console games but I know a good one when I see one. Games like Suikoden, Star Ocean, and Valkyrie Profile are overlooked because of Final Fantasy mania, a game that consists of not nearly as much substance as the others. Final Fantasy has never really innovated anything other than media impressions on RPGs in a negative way.
Look at the recent Final Fantasies. I think this picture speaks for itself.

Is that your ideal hero? He looks more like a Backstreet Boy than a champion determined to save the world. All Final Fantasy offers is good graphics with a hackneyed plot and stereotypical anime-like characters. Just look at Final Fantasy X. Would people have liked that game if the graphics weren't so good? No. I've noticed that people who like Final Fantasy generally care more about graphics than gameplay.
Final Fantasy is just an over-hyped sub-par RPG that offers players nothing that they can't find anywhere else.
