But I'm one of the few that liked POP2 a lot too, although I haven't played it so many times. But I liked the richer scenarios and in-game scenes. And I found swordfights even better (even more difficult though, which may be a reason why many people find POP2 frustrating?)

The following 3D POP games I haven't played. I haven't even finished Tomb Raider II... :-(

But have you played the first Tomb Raider or any from the series?
I didn't play it at the time but much later not so many years ago for the first time. I had become used to the commonplace idea that 3D adds nothing to a game, which is often true. But TR really did great things with it.
