The film was anything but a masterpiece, typical Zack Snyder tripe and it completely invalidates the appeal of the graphic novel by its incompetence at transferring the characters and making them just as human and recognizable as they were in the comic, it entirely fails in that regard.

A good adaption isn't achieved through word for word transference, I think Stanley Kubrick proved that well enough when all his breath-taking pieces of art wandered off the path of their original materials.
