It runs with dosbox. the only problem is the sound.

everytime i start the setup exe i'm getting this output:

Loading...
Error processing MAX.INI, line 2.

Error: 0001
Error: HMI drivers not present in current directory.

has anyone an idea?[/b]
Yeah, same thing to me.
It looks like this is a nut hard to crack.

I normally only use the basic features of dosbox, are the any options to play with sound settings?
I tried with VDMSound but itīs the same. Is it because the normal configuration (220 7 1) is a no go?

Maybe if someone who actualy has sounds in the game could copy paste the sound settings from the .ini file to the forum.
Could help allot.

I'm not sure if you have sounds with the game. I downloaded full version and it works, but the movement in xp (I run it with vdmsound) of the screen is to fast. Here is a listing of my max.ini file.

Don't worry about the missing movie files though. If memory serves right, there were only two of 'em:
- An intro (typical, mechanized army shoots then explodes)
- And a weird cutscene (battleships & submarines, totally unrelated to the current game setting) [/b]
For what it's worth, there was also a movie scene of some huge tracked vehicle turning into a mining station.

I loved this game, and have only a minor gripe - the enemy units always seemed to 'know' to stop just out of range of my unit's weaponry, without previous knowledge that my unit was there. For example;

Imagine I have an Anti-Aircraft emplacement, which has a range of about 8 squares. Without 'in game' knowledge of this building (ie, without the opponent having detected this on any of their unit's scanners) the opponent's Ground Attack Planes (These can only 'see' for two squares around them) would always 'know' to stop just outside the range of my AA weapon.

I think I've only had two incidents of an enemy unit 'accidently' moving into range of a gun emplacement. Frustratingly this even seems to extend to land/sea mines, their units seem to avoid them even though I know they haven't swept that patch of terrain with their own minelayer/surveyor/foot units.

Seems mildly cheaty, even though obviously the computer knows where all the units are, the opponent AI shouldn't until it locates them in-game.

(MAX2 was awful, keep away!)
[/b]
Congratulations, you just found out the AI is smart enough to use AWACS, which can see at least 12 (or was ist 14) fields. Far more than the 8 your AA can fire.
This works for the AI, you can make it work for you.

Edit "Maxrun.bat" to include the correct path to MAX directory on the DosBox mount. Then start the game via Maxrun.bat.

Does anyone know what should I enter for Device_ID= to make the game work with Sound Blaster Pro 2 ?
Or is that the same as for Sound Blaster Pro 1 (0xe001)?

herrloffel 16-02-2007 10:04 AM

I still can run the game...
if I find some place to upload the iso from hole cd can anyone upload?

The Fifth Horseman 16-02-2007 10:16 AM

Actually, we have the ISO in the "ISO Cellar" forum. You have to get 20 posts to access that place.

herrloffel 16-02-2007 10:38 AM

super sweet!!!
10% now... to get the iso cellar!

thx!
