I guess it was to be expected really, but I'm surprised that we didn't see one earlier... like 15 years ago ;) Or right after C&C came out. But better late than never... I wonder if Darth Vader will be powerful enough as he is in the movies... wouldn't that be dangerous? :)

There actually was one. Don't know anymore what is was called anyway :/
Had pretty much the same gameplay as StarCraft, and you could play through the entire Episode 1 if I remember it right.

And it had only land/air battle, no real space battle like in Empires at war.

That of course, if I remember everything right.

Empire at War is actually very little like Command and Conquer, and more like The Total War series, or Rebellion, if anyone here played that. There is a story based compaign, but what I'm looking forward to is the Galactic Conquest mode.

The battles, in the primary mode, do not involve base building or resource gathering. Instead you fight tactical battles with just the units you brought. There is a mod that unlocks the Galactic Conquest mode in the demo, and its really quite good. I'm very much looking forward to the finished version.

Well I've got it, and its quite good. The Galactic Conquest mode plays the way Rebellion should have back in the day. The space combat is about perfect, the ground combat still needs work.

If you like slower paced strategy games, or Star Wars, I reccomend it highly.

EDIT

Oh, and if anyone wants to get a galactic conquest multiplayer game going, let me know, because I'm up for one.

Indeed.

Its very adicting though. I've been downloading the mods for the demo to get the extra ships. However it looks like that the retail game wont have any new ships in it. I find it very limited if thats true.

It reminded me a little of Masters of Orion. Its that kind of an addiction.
