Yeah, Hotmail does it. So what? Hotmail is not a professional tool and isn't really targetted at the Exchange crowd. People in corporate environments actually have to use tools like Outlook, and can't get away with that toy known as Hotmail. Same goes for GMail. Quote:
That's nice that you don't tend to type names. Some of us do and as any coder or *nix systems administrator (including myself on both counts) can tell you, autocomplete/intellisense speeds things up immeasurably. When you know people with non-generic names or actually have to keep in contact with a large number of people you might not actually know it's big time saver. Quote:

<!--QuoteBegin-Danny252@ How about you get reliable contacts that don't do that? Plus, if I want offline messages, I dont want 60 different screens popping up as soon as I log on. i still like email.
Oh, I'm sorry that I know people that still use dialup or who have connection problems from time to time. I guess I'll just have to stick with the people who use those perfect internet connections that never have trouble. That was a really brain-dead comment. <!--QuoteBegin-Danny252 Avoiding people, I block them. If I dont want people messaging me, I dont message them. If I dont want to talk to anyone at all, I don't log on.
Personally I'm not a big fan of blocking everyone on my contact list so that I can sign on to ask a friend to lunch without recieving two dozen random IMs. It's also nice in that it lets you have a longer discussion with someone without being interrupted by others. It's a privacy thing, not a restraining order thing. Microsoft is attempting to improve a tool for use in professional enviroments and is happening to provide a bunch of features along the way for more power users. You're obviously a person who has never had to use a similar tool in a large environment or manage contact with people who don't live down the street from you. Just because you have all your buddies' e-mail addresses memorized doesn't mean that I have the 700+ contacts (including addresses, phone numbers, and business affiliations) in my address book memorized. You're entire post read "I don't need this" and "you should do that instead" which is not only selfish, it smacks of the delusion that Microsoft has the least bit of concern over what a non-corporate user thinks. |
