I my opinion I don't care, cause they have the Grand Canyon.

P.S. If you haven't seen it yet, look at it right NOW. It's amazing, they mapped out the terrain and everything, you really get a feeling of how huge itis.

Yeah, the grand canyon is pretty cool. The way they've done the mountains is really good and zipping around the Alps or the Himalayas is fun.

At least the name of my hometown is shown in it, but by the time they make a high detail zone out of it I'll be having grandkids... :(

Well I like closing into the Grand Canyon tilting the view, so you really have the feeling of flying through it.

My town unfortunately isn't in a high resolution area, so you can only make out two things (the horse-racing tracks and the lakes). Everything else is really blury.

Just go to: 46:31:12; 16:12:00

BTW - what's this? I found it in the middle of the Sahara desert :eeeeeh:

I've noticed how the US gets high detail coverage.. not fair. hmfies.

@seb: You go look at Area51. They got green ones of them over there.

They're farms, simple as that. There is a central pivot that has a boom covered in sprinklers extending from it, this boom goes around in circles very slowly to water the area. Ever wondered how you get tomatos and strawberries in the middle of winter? Well now you know.

Here's a picture of one:

EDIT: "splinkers"? What the hell are splinkers?

Sebatianos 14-10-2005 11:14 PM

Woa, I've seen these things on the fields, but I'd never guess that this is what I saw in the middle the Sahara desert! Those things would have to be humongus - to be seen so big from such an altitude... Impressive.

Havell 14-10-2005 11:20 PM

Egypt especially has been building lots of them recently. All high profit crops for export. The only problem is that they have to import the boom and pivot systems from the US (as they are the main users of this type of farm, mostly in the great plains).

Many people on the interent are not aware of this type of farming however, and the only time they are exposed to these pictures is when looking at Area 51, so some think that they are UFo landing sites, and others think they are where the government have censored the images (a suprisingly common belief).

when you search for my place look for pointer:

google earth is cool ... it's quite like NASA world wind ... try world wind if you need very specific highres maps of the US. when you like to see stars and nebulars then use celestia. both are cool progs and google earth is very cool and very small ! wow ... :ok:

Blood-Pigggy 15-10-2005 12:59 AM

You know what's cool?
I bet they're making government issue kind of satelite imaging.
Much more complex then we currently have now, so that we can find any uncharted areas, and many more historic sites that haven't been discovered yet.
Wouldn't it be cool to find some far off civilization's ruins on some remote island?

I can see my house very clearly from Google Earth, but I don't want any stalkers :bleh:
