I have 100 games on my Backloggery that I have beaten and that is only a small amount of the games I have beaten. For consoles it only counts games I own now not ones I have beaten before, for PC it is only ones I could be bothered adding.

So listing the total amount would be take way to long.

I must have beat Solitaire about a million times by now.

But did you find all the subquests and achievements? :shifty:

Achievements are for hyperactive kids with no imagination.

Achievements back in the day were user made and actually meant something. Like, for example, finding the way to have more than one Excalibur in Final Fantasy Tactics so you could dual wield them.

Edit: or find the way to deal 9999 damage 12 times to the final boss in Final Fantasy VI. I hate that game and I've never done it myself but this shows you how "achievements" back in the days actually meant something.

Seems exactly the same as now to be honest.

Eagle of Fire 17-07-2012 02:50 PM

You must be kidding.

Right now, achievements are things anybody can do. It only serve to know how advanced you are in a game.

Back in the days those achievements were created by the games community to show how hardcore you were versus that specific game.

Just try to get to the infinite dungeon in FFT without looking at Youtube or a walkthru. The guy(s) who found it probably played well over 500 hours into that game as well as restarting it several time before simply stumbling on it.

Oh, nevermind, I forgot you won't be happy until you can game in a timemachine.

RRS 17-07-2012 02:55 PM

I was hoping you'll catch my irony, EoF?

Honestly, in the old days it was about the (numerical) high score. I remember gaming mags with a postcard where you'd submit your scores to be printed in the next issue.
Today I wouldn't believe them even if people were submitting screenshots!

In simulators you often were given medals ;) Those were the only achievement-like things I recall. I always considered achievements a console thing.

Steam has achievements for games running with it, but I've never payed much attention to them except for TF2 ones.
