From what I've seen at my friend's, who has installed it, it's pretty much Win7 with a new start menu that's as useless as it can get. The interesting features are under the hood, they say, and I'd like to know what is the largest partition Win8 can handle with it's new allocation table. I wouldn't use it on a daily basis though, the next one must be better.

Ha ha ha,
the best review i read. Very detailed and complete. Danke sehr, Wicky!! |
The story is that Microsoft dropped the ball so badly in the mobile market that now they feel the need to overcompensate, and let tardpads dictate the strategies for their whole empire including PCs. I don't know Windows 8, but you probably can't understand it or Metro (I think they're going to change that name BTW) if you don't understand how badly Balmer is fixated on tardpads. Bear in mind that Apple used to be worth much less than Microsoft (their stock), but recently surpassed it. As much as this is a bubble, the CEO of Microsoft can't ignore it because stockholders hold him responsible for stock value in the long and short runs.
There was a big scare among Windows programmers because of this new policy of Balmer's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microso...Studio_Express Quote:

I saw some video of Windows 8. Judging from that and the reviews it's getting it looks like I'm sticking with Linux for a very long time. Not that I mind that... ;)
I plan to be building a PC soon and I was thinking about putting Windows 7 on there for games and whatnot. 7 is still pretty new to me (because ya know, I really haven't touched Windows since 2010ish?) 8 is made to be like the tablet thing and I'm not that crazy about those. I'm not cool (or rich) enough to own one. So... nope. |

And there is already a freeware 'classic shell' for Win8, you even can set a W95 'look and feel' if you want. Fact is: they cleaned up a lot of the program code (even if this means sometimes introducing new bugs .... :perv: ) Other fact: if you don't need the improved interconnectivity or tablet comp you can happily stay on Win7, Win8 won't add much more compy pleasure. |
Today my friend asked me:
-- I like very much classic screen theme of Windows XP - Bliss (some green fields and road) and others - Paradise etc. Is it possible to use these XP's themes in Win 7 and 8?-- Maybe some one has ideas? TY :hihihi: |
Win7 - 8 same thing :sucks:

Eh, yoga, you mean he would like to use the old wallpapers?

Full themes can be problematic, but if you find what piece matches what piece, you can manually add in the content I bet. |
