@Bobbin: I dont follow ANYTHING in that thread. Im confused. completely.

Post no. 1041's gonna be pretty long but...

Starcraft: Abandonia

What's Starcraft?
Starcraft is a RTS (real-time strategy) very much like Warcraft. Starcraft is set in the future. Terrans and Protoss are a human and alien race. They're arch enimies of eachother. One day a new race appears as some sort of mutated creatures. These are known as the Zerg race. Later in the Terran campaign you find out that the Zerg are no normal race. As it turns out a group of Terrans (can't remember name) scientists were designing battle defenses to make them a superior race. But the experient went wrong. The creatures had mutated and formed some ugly looking creatures. And now the Terrans and Protoss are working to destroy this entire race. The story goes something like that.

What's Starcraft: Abandonia?
Starcraft: Abandonia is a game organised by Bobbin Threadbare and it follows like this: If the game would've began starting with Starcraft a forum member could just post what team they wanted to be in and if there was no original recruit for the team the member chose, they would automatically be recruited as captain. If there's already a captain you will just be recruited as a member of the team. In your team you can choose a hero that is available and comprehends to your race (see 'What are the benifits of being a captain?'). Every player but my team (Team RED) will be a computer player. We will then battle it out to see who will win the match. Each match will mainly be played on Saturday at around 3:00pm-4:00pm (GMT+10) and around any time on the holidays. Each match will be posted in the SC forum as I finish it.

What are heroes?
Heroes are mainly just a unit (e.g. Arbiter) but with special abilities and stands out one way or another. The unit has a special name which will be edited to the forum member's name. (e.g I'm an Arbiter named 'Danimoth' by default. With the map editor I'm now an Arbiter named 'Bobbin Threadbare) Some may have raised health limits, special weapons and such rather than the ordinary unit.

How will you post the matches?
I will save a replay of the match after I've played it and call it 'abanx.rep' x representing the number mission it is. Then I will upload it onto my website's server and post a download link in the post.
I DON'T HAVE STARCRAFT. HOW CAN I WATCH REPLAYS?
Do not fear, my dear reader. On the first post is a download link to download the program 'BWChart Replay Analyser'. It is an application to view Starcraft replay files (*.rep) without playing them from Starcraft. You do not need Starcraft to run this application.

What are the benifets of becoming a team captain?
If you become a team captain you can:
  • Choose the race of the team.
  • Change the race of your team (not very often).
  • Get first dibs on choosing your hero for that team.
  • Resign your post as captain and give the responsibility of captain to another member of your team.
What happens when there are no more availible heroes?
Nobody can be recruited. You will have to wait until I get 'Starcraft Map Editor X' to make new heroes.

Can I help with this?
Yes, you can. You may design a maps to plat a mission/match of SC on. Be sure to have eight players, each team is the right colour and has the correct heroes. Each hero is assigned as it's correct forum name (I will edit this if you want). Make sure each team has the same amount of starting supplies (other than heroes). e.g. If one team starts with two peasants, each team must start with two peasants.

When done, you should PM me the link to the map. And in the PM send me a small thumbnail of the map. (I will create the thumbnail if you want.)

Starcraft: Abandonia
FAQ
...

I believ we need an additional rule here:

what happens if a captain isn't active.
Being a captain isn't just about benifits. The captain must quite often be present to answer questions and defend his teammates with all the truths and lies (again in theory). However this doesn't allways work out. sometimes you are over the head at work, and sometimes you suddenly end up without internet for a month. Or you could just loose interest (don't be shy, poo (the M word) hapens to the best of us). Now the best way to handle this is to give captaincy (captainship?) to a teammate. But what if you can't? I belive the following system to be fair:
a captain should post in the game thread within 24 hours of a question directed to him (including as part of a group)
If the captain fails to respond within 24 hours an e-mail should be sent to him.
if he fails to respond to that too (24 as usual), he should be replaced with a teammate.
if none of them want to take the pace (or if there are none), the position should be offered to anyone who wants it (with people from teams with most members encouraged to do this most)

P.S. no, I'm still bycoting this thread, but this has nothing to do with counting, so it should be ok.

Bobbin Threadbare 05-10-2005 08:35 AM

Erm, can I just change something? Me being the organiser I should be.

Instead of 24hrs. I'm changing it to 48hrs since the last match/mission.

I'm guessing you got this idea from Fawful's antics.

Call me crazy, but wouldn't the Starcraft stuff have a better chance of being read by the Starcraft players if it were posted in the Starcraft thread?
