The other option is go and download "get right" it is a download manager - you should turn of accelerated downloading but you can use it if you have dial up to resume broken or incomplete downloads.
Sadly getright dosen't work with abandonia (yes, I've moaned to Kosta already)

can you change the way to download so that you can right click and say "save target as" cause my comp doesnt ask to save zip files, it just opens them and that is annoying cause i like to unzip them? just a thought....
We will never restore that. We have several security precautions to prevent people stealing our bandwidth and this is an unfortunate side effect of that. Hope the suggestions here help you somewhat.

Tuttle To reset IE's prompting, you need to open Windows Explorer, go to Tools | Folder Options | View | File Types, highlight ZIP, click Advanced and check "Confirm open after download".

In Netscape/Mozilla it's Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications | application/zip | Edit | Always ask me before handling files of this type.

mouse31e When you download a file in IE you should get a Open/Save/Cancel prompt. I would guess the problem is that the 'Always ask before opening this type of file' has become unchecked for zip files.

This means if you opened a zip without that box checked in the past, any future zip will automatically be opened without any prompt. Unfortunately I have no idea how to reset it.

On to the IE/Firefox issue. The question never mentioned IE, so why the assumption that if it doesn't work it must be IE? Despite the advantages of Firefox's download manager, IE is actually better for downloading in my experience, because it does always ask about downloads, which Firefox often forgets to do!

Eagle of Fire Well if he's rambling about IE then there is a problem on his own settings because I use IE and I have no problem whatsoever.

So I say my best bet would be the problem lay on his side.

goblins i say this in the nicest possible way but why are you still using internet explorer its full of holes , bugs, secuirty holes etc etc.

goto mozilla.org and get either mozilla (for a fully featured web browser) or firefox for basic web browsing - seriously the amount of spyware, active X nuisinece, diallers and other nasties there i switched to the open source alternative and no problems since.

Good luck to you. The other option is go and download "get right" it is a download manager - you should turn of accelerated downloading but you can use it if you have dial up to resume broken or incomplete downloads.

I hereby withdrawl this statement LOL obvioulsy you havent tried mozilla as opposed to firefox which can be made specifically always ask for downloads - was just speaking from personal experience - you can even get plug ins for mozilla that allow it to resume brokend downloads which IE doesnt do if youre on a dial up.

Tom Henrik Not really. He is commenting on the site

But... can't you change the settings? So that it doesn't open the files?

bjbrains2002 The easiest way to solve this problem is to use
Firefox
Btw this should be moved to troubleshooting
