DarthHelmet86 Tell the guy to take a long walk of a short jetty, and ignore him form now on. He sounds like someone who enjoys starting a fight and arguing no matter what, I should know thats me on some days in real life.

The Fifth Horseman From a certain point of view he's actually right.
From another, the dude is a complete moron.

bluestarultor Well, to be honest, he's opposed to even recognizing abandonware as a valid term and I've been butting heads with him at every mention of it, but when he tried to use that as proof we were all dirty pirates, well, I guess I got trolled.

At any rate, thanks for the explanation and I'll be posting it on that forum.

TotalAnarchy Ok, I need to clarify smth: I thought T2000 was a freeware remake from the beginning. If it was sold then freewared, it's even more obvious it's also AB material. The previous post is still viable though.

TotalAnarchy I see... Well, first our policy is to never remove game pages, no matter what they are sold, freeware etc. For sold games we remove the download only, and leave the review and extras. Why? Because we're not a download-only site and there's plenty of discussion that one can have over a classic game in the forums boards. We can give each other hints, talk about favourite characters, moments or read the review to have a nostalgia moment. We can share fanmade maps and walkthroughs.

In the case of freeware games, if reloaded has an entry too, our download link directs to them. If not we suply the download. However, our present policy allows only adding freeware games that were once commercial. Daggerfall would be a good recent example, we don't even offer the download for it, instead we direct to Bethesda because of their Terms one must agree with first. We already talked with reloaded about a possible sharing between us with reviews. You must understand we are 2 different sites with 2 different leaderships. They prefer not to depend on us, which is really the right way.

Secondly, to understand this situation that guy must have some basic knowledge about Abandonia's history. Not much has changed, but you should note that Abandonia was dedicated to old games in a much broader sense back then. It wasn't just about abandoned games, it included also freeware remakes of them. In this regard, Tyrian 2000 is a testament of why reloaded.org was needed. I don't really see a problem with it staying where it is. You know, people protest nowadays when you remove some monument built by a previous regime (eg communist socialist statues) because that way you cut the nation from its historical roots. You can view this from the same perspective.

What I'm trying to say, Tyrian 2000 is not porn, nor political pamphlet. It's just a "remake" of an old game, deeply connected with the world of classic gaming. There;s no reason big enough to make us remove it.

On another note, you might want to clarify what this user really wants or expects from the abw scene. Tyrian 2000 is available on many good abw sites. That just proves the strong ties that we have with the freeware/remake scene.

Tomekk Originally sold, now freeware => AB

Professor Oak Just because a game was originally sold as a commercial piece and then was released as freeware a few years down the line doesn't mean it can't be Abandonia.

bluestarultor Well, I realize that, but I've been dealing with this user's dim view of abandonware for a while now, so I'm wondering if it might not be appropriate to take it off here and put it on there, if that's possible.

I mean, if it's not, I'll just tell him, but it's probably not going to do anything for my case.

TotalAnarchy Uhmm, that game was added before the creation or reloaded.org... :\

Tyrian 2000 move?

Not sure where to put this, but Tyrian has been released as freeware and Tyrian 2000 is on this site. Basically, I bring this up because a guy on another forum is using this as proof that Abandonia is unregulated and I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised that there was an oversight. With it having been released in 2004, wouldn't Abandonia Reloaded be the proper place, or is there something to do with the version differences?
