AlumiuN | Personally, I just use that CVS. It has a GUI, so I can set it up enough without having to use a frontend. | |||

Personally, I just don't use frontends. With customized shortcuts and incremental configs, DOSBox can be set up to run a specific game on double-clicking a shortcut on your Desktop (or wherever) and close when the game terminates. |

For most games a front-end will do swell. As you're on Vista you'll need a front end who is Vista compatible. As are: DGBL http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/blankendaalr/dbgl/ D-Fend reloaded: http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/ But for some games you will have to learn how to do things the old way, meaning: on the prompt. Mainly games that need a specific mount to be able to find their files in a directory structure. Also keep in mind that most here don't use a front-end, so you won't find much game specific help using a front-end here. I would strongely advise you to learn the 'prompt way', it isn't hard to master and avoids extra problems. |

Easiest way to work with dosbox on Vista: Install dosbox in c:\users\your name\ Create a virtual C as: c:\users\your name\oldgames\ Add those lines under [autoexec] mount c "c:\users\your name\oldgames\" c: Working that way will avoid you all troubles related to Vista's protections. Simple as that. |

Uninstall DOSBox and install it in your "My Documents" directory or somewhere where your profile has full read/write permissions. Quote:

It might be more convenient if you set up an extra GUI inside DOSBox - Norton Commander being my personal recommendation (my guide has instructions on how to set it up - NC makes things much easier). |

I was trying to save the changes in the dosbox.conf on the notepad. When I go to file then save I get: cannot create the C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosboxconf file Make sure that path and file name are correct. Any suggestions? I was able to save it under documents but when I pulled up the dosboxconf file from start then programs none of the changes were saved. Once all the configuring is done how do you start a game? I could see it on the c:dir on dosbox but what do you type to start the game. In this case Tank Wars? Thanks for any help!!!! |
