gregor yeah you need to alocate the ems memory. you can do that in your dosbox config. the dosbox readme give info on that if you search for EMS.

from DOSBOX readme:

Q: I would like to change the memory size/cpu speed/ems/soundblaster IRQ.
A: This is possible! Just create a config file: config -writeconf configfile.
Start your favourite editor and look through the settings. To start DOSBox
with your new settings: dosbox -conf configfile

and more:
To turn ems memory emulation off:
config -set "dos ems=off"
I guess if you use on instead of off it switches it on....
You might need to use ems=true

if all these settings are on which they might be then you need to enable himem.sys. i knew how to do it in DOS, but for dosbox some one else will have to help you as i can't find the lines in config file...

Perhaps this part should also be in tutorial, since quite a few good games use EMS.
