The Fifth Horseman Daemon Tools? What are you smoking?
Daemon Tools don't have anything to do with either the problem or its' solution.

if he is using dosbox then it is indeed not needed. Simply set nosound to true.

HE? :O

Anyways, yes, you are right by setting nosound to true that should disable the access to the direct speakers.

EDIT: If she doesn't use DOSbox the she can use Daemon tools or something like that, simpler.

jg007 the only way that I found that you could not turn off the pc speaker was when running through windows so that is why I presume that she probably was using windows.

hey I may be wrong

The Fifth Horseman She didn't say anything about using DOSBox - therefore I am inclined to believe she does not use it to run the game.

jg007 Right Sorted

1. if using dosbox as above mixer etc.. but for some reason I cannot navigate the menus as the arrow keys only work to move the character not the menu ( or use data's nosound )

2. if using windows goto device manager , select view , show hidden devices , then select Non plug and play devices , right click on beep and select disable. it will prompt to reboot so allow to reboot and speaker will be dead

or option 3 if you want to keep the pc speaker beep -

goto device manager , select view , show hidden devices , then select Non plug and play devices , right click on beep , select properties and click on stop . run the game and then when finished just click on the start option

( this was checked on my system and works . 5th / data some pc's I have worked on have had a speaker soldered onto the board so you cannot just unplug it

jg007 hmm, not sure I agree :bleh: as dosbox I 'believe' will still use the windows xp drivers and not use direct calls to the speaker

you can also try the mixer command in dosbox

just enter ' mixer spkr 0 ' and that will set the speaker vol to 0

bit intense opening the case as sould be able to disable some other way.

I will try to d/l that game and confirm

Not likely if the game accesses the speaker directly.

I'm with Data on this - you just have to power down your machine, open the side of the case and detach the speaker connector from the motherboard. It's not difficult.
