Reviving a dead thread for nostalgia factor. I got this game when it was relatively new in a boxed set with "Tongue of the Fatman", a first-person adventure based on the novel "When Gravity Fails" (or, rather, the series that novel is part of), and one other game I can't recall. Even back then I had to slow down my CPU to play it -- imagine my chagrin when I discovered that the hard way (immediately after starting the first race, I slammed into an overpass a good third of the way along the track, taking myself out of the running)! Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the game wasn't even mentioned in the review, however: bounties. Every once in a while, a shady-looking fellow will offer a reward to take a specific driver out during your next race, which is a great way to earn the cash needed for future upgrades. I found it interesting because it hinted at the presence of a world outside the races themselves, which, while assumed, is otherwise completely ignored in favor of the gameplay. This wasn't the best game I had back in the day (that would have been Sierra's dystopian black comedy adventure "Manhunter: New York") but it was a great way to kill some time and vent frustrations. |

Pitbull is the best solution for that. Also, winning two or three races (even with 3 laps) gets you all weapons and upgrades you need. |

I used to play this game when it was new. But i wasn't very good at it until i tried this: Get the fastest car posible and set laps to 1. I won every race form then on but never killed anything so didn't take an contracts. I can't remember if i took the Pitbull, cause it looked best, and sold all the extra stuff to buy the best engine or just took the car with the best engine. |

Good discussion. Some things I fet was missing Uprgrading the Laser to the latest is sound advice, it has a good rate of fire (beam sucks at this!) and range (bullets suck at this!) and is free (missles and terminators suck at this!). If you are a good shot you can rack up 5-6 elims with the laser alone in the first few races (your opponents upgrade their armor in the later races) *Crimson's Death's and Wrecker's car can be shot with a laser at any distance due to their high profiles. On the other hand, Preying Menace's car is so low that a laser goes right over it at close range. *Lasers on strightaways and bullets on curves achieve the most effective combination of cannons. However, if you can shoot where the car will be and not where it is, laser ahead on curves too. In fact, you kinda kave too if the car is too far away *The quickest way to rise to the top is: Hellcat, Best Laser, ~5 caltrops. Eleminate those in front of you at the startingline with laser (quite easy). Use the hellcat's speed-advantage to race far ahead (keeping a good distance avoids the chance of them getting a missile lock on you). Apply caltrops to curves, and it will soon be impossible for them to catch up to you. *Don't use too many caltops/mine, as you might get hoisted by your own petard. You might win the race but the repairs might cause you to have a negative cash flow even if you win. 5 is enough. 10 should be the sane maximum *Stock an emergency $3,000 missile. Just one. This is the most effective weapon (more effective than the $3,300 dragon terminator). Great in irritating situations when somebody overtakes you right before the finish line or when you miss your $5,000 contract assassination. *The races are easy enough to win. The object of a true challenge should be to maximize the money. To truly do this, you have to minimize damage to your car. Some tips to do this: - It is better to kill than to overtake opponents who have a tendency to play agressively. It may seem wise to eliminate Crimson Death (compulsive missler) and Melissa (compulsive terminator chucker). But even more deadly are Wrecker, Motormaniac and Lurker, who love to use undercarriage-demolishing mines and caltrops. Eliminating them early means, very little chance of damage to your car -Missles cause damage to your armor and armor only (unless it is all gone) if you can't dodge everything thrown at you, make missles your lowest priority. Terminators should be the higest, followed by the mines and the caltrosp. -You Don't have to lap your opponents. Just maintain the lead, and remain far from the fray. It's fun to kill but it is there is a different sort of fun in accumulating >$100,000 at theend of the first circuit If you want to lap-- kill 'em all, don't spare anybody (the best kinda game!) -You don't have to completely repair your armor at the begining of each race, if the damage done is very little. Especially true In the begining, when it is cheaper to hoard money and buy better parts than repair the existing ones. This is a somewhat risky though, so know your limits. |

Shawdawg | If you guys liked this game, I would recommend the movie Death Race (the new one with Jason Staham). I thought it was going to be average, but I really enjoyed the movie. Lots of action and car crashing combat in it. Reminded me a lot of this game, and other car combat games. | ||

Here's a trick that will not work with the Hellcat or Crusher. You take the Pitbull. Go to the weaponsshop. Sell all your terminators and buy the cheapest. You'll win some money, enough to buy the most expensive engine. Now, you have the best armour and the best engine. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(the_fifth_horseman @ Nov 17 2006, 02:04 PM) </div> Quote:

Wow, this is long time ago. I remember I deleted the track St Louis, because it had a really long and irritating turn. |
