Tulac But you can't deny that competition/games subforum was the one which helped reduce spam even more.

bobson I wanted to have a lot of "red pips" under my avatar, but since I speak mostly in 3xBlah ... it'll take quite a long to do ...

Thanks for info Tom - now i know all I needed

Tom Henrik The problem (which we were faced with at the time) is that post count does matter. Not to me, and not to many others, but to some it does. And for them having the 3xBlah posts counts is like waving a carrot in front of them. It leads to serious spamming. When we implemented the new post count, the spamming subsided, and as such it has stayed in operation ever since.

Because as Reamus says, you don't get any benefits from post counts at all, apart from the red pips below your member title (and member titles). That's it, really.

We judge our members from their contributions to the site (not just the games they submit, but the debates and discussions and great ideas), not by how many posts that member can spew out in one evening.

Doubler I'm guessing the issue is that, although you don't think much of postcounts, other people might. This can lead to spamming in the 3XBlah and competitions just for postcount. In the other forums it is harder to post just to increase your postcount, since they're more strictly defined.

But to be honest I can't imagine that to be much of a deterrant, really. Maybe I'm wrong and a lot of posting for the sake of posting disappeared since the rule was instituted, I don't know. But as the usefullnes of the postcount hasn't really increased, even decreased (since it no longer reflects a user's activity it doesn't really reflect anything) it's nothing more then a novelty feature in my eyes now.

Mighty Midget I don't get this post count issue. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to count "contributions" to Abandonia? If people are so post count hungry, then maybe they would contribute like mad to get their counts up

Ok, so the "contribution count" is a technical issue, but it doesn't change my point. What is it with this post count anyway?

ReamusLQ yeah, post counts aren't anything special anyway. The only reason I like looking at them, is I can tell if someone is new or has been here awhile (though I've been here long enough to recognize most all the regulars).

It's not like you get special rewards for having a high post count...it doesn't get you into the VIP room or anything

Tulac IMO post count should show how much somebody is active on the forums, it's stupid when you see that a person has made around 400 posts but on the post count it's shown 20-30, then it's better to have no post count at all since it doesn't have any purpose, because it doesn't show actual persons activity.
I don't think post counts should be looked as rewards for posting something useful or constructive, but to do what they are made for, count posts.

But if we have useless discussions about music in the music section it's worth something?
[/b]
That's a specific forum not just any Blah. It's culturally important and you can write about game music. For more see below.

So if I just smile or write "I agree" anywhere but not in bla, bla, bla i get a point even if do not say anything smart, on-topic or developing the topic ??

You cannot prevent that. But in Blah everything is Blah. In not-Blah you can smile and agree shortly but not to often and when it is appropriate, in Blah you can do that whenever you want (if the gods aren't in a 3xBad mood).

[edit] Like Japofran said before because of my slow English. [/edit]

Japo A one-word post might even be appropriate, but if you make it a system in order to increase your count I think that amounts to spam, in Blahx3 or elsewhere alike, and you'll draw some mod's attention, that might result in a warning or it might hurt. My advice would be: post whenever you have something to say, not something Homeric, just something, but don't mid the post count. The way I see it if you spammed it up --which you won't be allowed to do here-- there would be no merit in it.

I'm not sure is that the best solution ... but it has it's pros - it's a abandoware games forum, not just any forum
